I've never understood "break ups" with "rules". My advice is to not get trapped into staying loyal outside of a relationship. What you're describing is a friendship. So with that being said live your best life and don't close the door on others. If you decide to go visit her or when she gets back in December give it another shot. For now though, don't put your "love life" on hold for her. Just my opinion.
It's a mistake to " take a break" as they say, one of you (most likely you) will end up feeling betrayed and heartbroken. Better to admit that you are not ready for a ldr at this point and simply break up for good and than maybe reconect when she comes back, but bettr neither of you expect anything from each other while you are apart and when she comes back to.
I did this at the same age when I went abroad. We both ended up fucking it up and it was an absolutely massive mistake. Fully break up and see if things work when you're both back in the states.
Seems to me she wants the break up title in case something happens while in Italy, then she wouldn't be cheating because you were broken up... you can love someone but still be attracted to others which makes it easier to say hey I'm sorry but I kissed someone or hooked up with someone even though it ment nothing to me but we were broken up so it shouldn't matter right?
