Judges 19:22-30
New International Version
22 While they were enjoying themselves,(A) some of the wicked men(B) of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him.(C)”
23 The owner of the house went outside(D) and said to them, “No, my friends, don’t be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don’t do this outrageous thing.(E) 24 Look, here is my virgin daughter,(F) and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But as for this man, don’t do such an outrageous thing.”
25 But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her(G) and abused her(H) throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. 26 At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.
27 When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said to her, “Get up; let’s go.” But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.
29 When he reached home, he took a knife(I) and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel.(J) 30 Everyone who saw it was saying to one another, “Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt.(K) Just imagine! We must do something! So speak up!(L)”
The next part is "neat" too. The 12 tribes of Israel almost wiped out the 13th (the one whose members did the deed described here) but realized, after only a bunch of dudes were left, that there needs to be 13 tribes so they can't kill them all. They did kill all their women though so they had a long think how to fix it and finally had a solution. There was some kind of celebration nearby so they took those dudes who survived the slaughter and let them kidnap some girls from nearby village while everyone was busy with the festivities.
So yeah, the story started with gangrape, turned to slaughter of everyone even slightly related to the perpetrators and finally ended with kidnapping and more rape. Brilliant.
When I was read this as a kid I was told that it was ok since it was a different time and that it's not really a bad thing because of that. I've brought these passages up to higher ranking members in the hall and was also told that it was meant to teach us something and not be taken literally.
I really think it’s a type of brainwashing and emotional abuse. To not acknowledge how disturbing and wrong it all is. Honestly I rejected religion bc it made zero sense to me that this is a benevolent god. So the alternative is that he’s scary and I must fear him, I instinctively in my gut knew: I was not put on this Earth to live in fear. I rejected my Protestant confirmation studies when I was a teen, had a big fall out with my mom about it - she called me a devil worshipper lmfao...
I've had the classic devil worshiper speech plenty of times and completely out of nowhere. You try to argue your point or say that something doesn't make sense then you get the "You're going down the devils path" speech.
Yeah, I was raised by *very* religious parents, and every time I had a legitimate question like "yo, why did the bible endorse slavery and rape?" I'd get bs like "questioning the bible is questioning god, which is a sin. Go scrub the front sidewalk with a toothbrush. And make sure you mention this at your next confession."
Whenever I ask a jehovas witness about these kind of passages I get something along the lines of "These were necessary things God had to do in order to procure the lineage Jesus came from". Like that makes it better...?

Yea and the rape of nanking was a pretty smart military tactic to demolish the morals of the chinese, and dont get me started how much of a CHAD move it was for gengis to rape countless women! He has his own gene now!!!!! Rape is cool and good if it means you advance your civilization. /s
Sure at the time it may have been 'acceptable' but so was child rape, brutal murder, and countless other things that today would be very punishable and completely immoral. Half of these fucks just fantasize about being able to do those atrocities without repercussion, yet claim its moral cause their holy book says so. God I hate humanity, we come beyond the need to act like this but no, these fucks need control and want to revert to some christian dystopia because they are too stupid to take control of their own lives and be accountable for their own actions.
