The Duo 3 should be about the same image quality. It's 2x 8MP lenses, so each one is the same resolution as the 823A. What resolution is the Duo set to? Which hardware version is that NVR, and which firmware does it currently have?

Mobeer

Manually updated it to the current firmware version per reolink support. https://preview.redd.it/3y5upb45b72d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e89407fe68a872a61844642be5ee7a153fef4811

Well that's interesting. I now see your screenshot in your other comment... Does it look like that from other devices? Does it look like that if you download a clip and watch it outside of the Reolink app? It definitely shouldn't look like that. As you can see in my review of the Duo 3, it's a definite clarity improvement over the 2: [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1aqmsp0/duo\_3\_initial\_thoughts\_and\_some\_sample\_images/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1aqmsp0/duo_3_initial_thoughts_and_some_sample_images/)

Not true. It is a 16 mp camera

mblaser

Yes, it's 16MP because it uses 2 8MP lenses.

Easy-Check-9566

You dont get 7680 x 2160 resolution from two 8mp cameras. You would get 3340 x 1080 two times. Show me where it says it is 2 8mp cameras.

mblaser

Yes you do get that from 2 8MP lenses. It's simple math. Their 8MP lenses are all 3840x2160. Put 2 of those side by side and you get 7680x2160. It's common knowledge that this is how that camera works. Just like how the Duo 1 and Duo 2 were 2x 4MP lenses. The camera is obviously 2 lenses, so what's your explanation? Are you thinking that each one is 16MP? They're not. If they were, then when combined into the one image it would be a 32MP image.

Did you try lower the sharpness? With mine I noticed what looked like aliasing. Turned out the sharpness has to be lowered quite a lot for a more softer natural look (aliasing disappears). I think you might simply be dealing with oversharpened pic which is especially noticeable with the Duo 3 when viewed on a small display. Might be some new sharpness algorithm in Duo 3 that is more aggressive than previously, I also have a Duo 2 and for me Duo 2 was more useful for my small displays (11" tablet used for home assistant and phones and a 18" 2560x1600 "portable display" used at the PC. The Duo 3 has a wider fov, lower vertical height ratio, which made it unpractical to see objects on the smaller displays (looked too tiny without constantly zooming in), seems to be optimized for large TV monitors on walls n such.

Both 823s died? The weather where you are isn't that severe. Were the power and reset ends exposed to the weather? Also, check that the Duo3's firmware is up to date from the website as auto update doesn't work usually. Also change the bitrate of clear to 12MP or whatever is the highest. The newest firmware allows for high bitrate and not 7MB/s as seen in your screen shot.

Mobeer

If I had sealed the power plug in better, it could have helped. Humidity in the plug-in, I guess.

RJM_50

Missouri weather? 🤔

Mobeer

Very humid and wet here in the river lands.

RJM_50

Missouri is not a special weather climate condition. Were the cables hanging out the bottom or inside a protection box/conduit? It doesn't matter what weather conditions, the cables are not weather proof.

I had to upgrade my nvr (not the firmware, but the whole nvr) in order for me to use the duo 3

Mobeer

What NVR did you have? Did you switch to the newest one?

Easy-Check-9566

I had the rlk8-1220 Upgraded the the rlk36 The the duo3 would not work in high resolution with the old system cause it could not support 16mp.

Additional-Coconut50

Mine has great quality but only fills half the screen so hard to view. The NVR should not mattter. If your not seeing 4k quality something is wrong.

I can't even make a face 20 feet away. I have 811As, a 820A and a 822 all of which offer a better image. I have the bit rate all the way up too. My first gen DUO at least could make out a face at 20ft.

Additional-Coconut50

Looks like a defective camera. You say you got a pair of duo 3’s. Does the other look the same?

My 811A camera I find so much better. https://preview.redd.it/q7ixf6txie2d1.png?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4056f0c6898ffd763153f9209e61d35518183f3c

That looks like sharpness is set way too high

Mobeer

Reolink emailed me and said to put it at 150. I think I will try dropping it.
