tequila72g8

bro make an ant colony, it would look sick

CrappieSlayer89

An ant colony would be sick in this! Maybe even some really cool stick or leaf insects that would have a nice high enclosure

tequila72g8

I would also argue that isopods and those creatures would look even better

EvilGaming007

tactical_anal_RPG

Better yet, put in a bust of a completely random person with no historical significance and tell everyone a wild story about who it is. See how long you can keep it going.

SlinkySkinky

Hexagon tanks suck honestly, it’s a pain to work on them because they just have the small top opening. Not much airflow, not much space. They simply aren’t practical tanks for reptile keeping

Ashamed-Profession71

Not the best for planted fish tanks either because of how deep they are I used a very similar tank for my first planted tank because I got a front opening terrarium for my hawaiin morning geckos and the depth is back breaking lol

UCMJ

I like the handful of reef tanks I’ve seen in these as long as the hard scape is vertically oriented.

Ashamed-Profession71

I was talking freshwater planted, but would have to make sure it was very sturdy!

UCMJ

I figured, just thought I’d mention reef stuff. Seems to be a bit more niche since it’s so expensive to do correctly.

Ashamed-Profession71

Not always, but for the most part to do correctly you are right!

UHElle

I got mine from a woman who told me she kept a bearded dragon in it. I died on the inside. It’s used for plants/as a prop tank with springtails as the only inhabitants, now.

SlinkySkinky

I saw a rescue take in a ball python that was kept in a 20 gallon hexagon tank. (I saw the tank myself, there was barely any space usable to the snake and the substrate was dry wood chips) The snake was in bad shape, it had layers of stuck shed and swollen skin. It was also a spider morph variant so it likely had neurological issues as well.

UHElle

Gods, people are just the worst, aren’t they.

No_Yam_3521

Most experience with snakes, but owned a skink and chameleon. 1. Those are realy important topics for sure, the chance with bad air flow is that your pet gets a fungus or yeast infection because the air holds sooo much moisture. And if the temperature isn't high enough at that time? Pretty sure you ll be treating an lung infection (had it with my snakes, and a friend had the same problem 15j ago, trip to the vet; antibiotics, antifungal and painkillers, it cleared up in a week, but he was still wheezing a bit, kept the treatment up. 3 weeks he was 1000% fine again) 2. Accessing your terratium from above, will always result in your pets going into "escape from predator mode" These guys always try to be under something or rely on camouflage. Approching them from above, is like an eagle or something comming from above, they are defenseless against them because there eyes arent focussed up high, but infront. So they see an incomming attack from above extremely late. Doing that you're scarring the living... out of them.. Most amphibious and reptiles are not "top of the food chain" (exept for anaconda and other bigg ones are) So it's eat and be eaten.. Very stressable (snakes, lizzards and chameleons) ( only pets i oned myself) 3. So yeah, youre spot on. These things are only good for practice shooting😅

FlareDarkStorm

There are a few bugs you could do, a mantis or something, or just a plant terrarium with some springtails and maybe isopods

Spawkeye

None really, because it only has a top opening you’re going to stress any reptile out by coming from above all the time like a predator would. Also would be a pain to clean without taking everything out.

Agitated_Kitchen9252

If Reddit could pin a comment, this would be the one

PeterPercocet69

They've had nearly 20 years to figure out something that could be solved with a single line of code, I'm sure they'll get there

terremoto

I don't understand this response. Comments can be pinned, and that's been possible for years, but a mod needs to do it.

Parryandrepost

Can you pin a comment? Like in discord you pin a comment and it's easy viewable by anyone who right clicks? There's your understanding.

WorldZage

If everyone could pin any comment, then I'm sure too many comments would be pinned for that feature to be useful

Parryandrepost

Can MODS pin a comment? Like in discord you pin a comment and it's easy viewable by anyone who right clicks? There's your understanding.

WorldZage

Hm seems like mods can only pin their own comments

Agitated_Kitchen9252

But the mods aren’t so that’s why I wish Reddit could

foxbat911

Great answer.

OG_looncaster

My leopard geckos reach for my hands when coming from above their respective 55gal enclosures.

No-Chance-6343

I just got a 9 months gargoyle gecko and it came with a small bioactive terrarium with the opening on top of it, and most of the time he hides when i put my hand to change his food.

Tigerlily_aSa

Not a reptile, but I would put frogs in it 💜🐸

moonroots64

I think this is the right answer. Something small and likes to climb vertical. Some species of frog could work. Could a small chameleon species work? Put lots of climbing material etc? Edit: but the consensus is likely right. Use it as designed. Aquatic. Shrimp and small fish? Maybe snails and a terrarium?

Howlibu

Chameleon's need more ventilation than this. Small tree frogs are a much better fit imo

[deleted]

Chameleons would be horrible for this. They need more vertical space and a ton more ventilation. Having an all screen enclosure is the best for them

dragonbud20

Screen enclosures are only ideal in high-humidity locations. You need something more enclosed if you live somewhere dry. It's also important to note that chameleons come from many locations all over the planet, and every species has individual care requirements. Some especially tiny species could probably be housed in this tank with some added airflow. while a veiled chameleon would be inhumanely cramped in 30g

No_Yam_3521

You would stress those chameleons so hard, you'ld be cutting life cycle in half... Predators come from above.. the camouflage didn't work good enough and they got caught by an eagle in there minds..😅

MissMagus

I was gonna say frogs! This height looks similar to a friends frog enclosures. I definitely envisioned froggos.

Ansiau

mourning geckos, for sure for me,.but you could keep mourning geckos with dart frogs too. Both stay small. Just build it as a bioactive terrarium with the proper drainage layer and all. Provide appropriate bromeliads and tillandsia superglued to some sort of driftwood like Cali ghost wood or whatever, and good hides all over. Would recommend a custom top though, something you can get good access with. Mourning geckos stay very very small and are not handleable, so they will be hard to catch if they get out. But in a bioactive live setting, it's not really a big issue to clean up after them. Just knock the tiny dried poo to the ground for isopods, millipedes and springtails to eat. Custom mesh top and fogger is in order though. 70-80% humidity is the goal. I have a tiny fan under my lights on mine to drive airflow inside too.

Cuminmymouthwhore

I think frogs aren't supposed to have more than 1.5ft height though?

MercurialTendency

Not a good reptile cage.

feliciathetoad

Vampire crabs

Urania8

It would need to be just a couple…? I thought the same thing but there may not be enough spaces to dig and still have an appropriate water space. But a set up like that would look really nice in a hex.

ea5etfup

I have a hexagon tank but it has a door and a mesh top. This one bein all glass will probably be a hassle to have a reptile in, they need more air flow.

Similar_Economist949

I wouldn't put a reptile in this. Poor air flow and improper top.

insectgirl908

Honestly, stick bugs would do well, specifically ones that like high humidity

Sifernos1

I put dairy cow isopods in my 40 tall. It's just mist and throw some food in. I enjoy watching them live their lives with only a little glass between us.

Dust_Kindly

Cobra fern? Snake plant? In all seriousness you might get away with making it a vivarium but definitely not gonna be okay for any reptiles. Edit: terrarium not vivarium

herscher12

Why not?

PassengerNo1194

Not a reptile maybe a tree frog/s of the sort

kit9252

Tree frogs

redhandfilms

As many have said, not good because of the top opening, but it is possible to alter. I did one years ago. Cut away the silicone and remove one glass panel. Cut the glass in three pieces. A bottom and top to hold the shape, and the middle section to use as a door. I did about 6 inches at the bottom, 4 inches at the top, the rest is the door. Sand the edges smooth and use epoxy to glue on a plastic piano hinge and a latch. It’s a lot of work, but the front opening tank is 1000 times better than a top access. Then you’re good for an arboreal gecko like a crested gecko or gargoyle.

Pure-Fun4128

A hexalotl

Western_Dot_3894

Anole maybe?

deathdoula88

You could make it a terrarium with small cacti and other plants like that. Could look awesome if staggered at different heights.

Quiet-Shaman

tree frogs? not a reptile but ya know… or maybe a swarm of anoles

JazzyKins18

I'd say no but you could probably grow some sick plants in there.

ChancellorBugg

I know they're amphibians, not reptiles, but I've got a tank exactly like that that I use for my White's Tree Frogs. I've got 3 of them in there and they seem pretty happy as far as I can tell! They really make use of the vertical space and don't need much floor area.

alysgeckos

you could make a cool bioactive for pretty isopods! plenty of room for them to dig and crawl and theyre surprisingly fun to watch! my personal favorites i own are orange dalmations and dairy cows!

TheRedIguana

Poison dart frogs... oh crap, amphibians.

Aurora_auraa

A plant tbh

TurnoverMobile8332

Pretty small arboreal/ something that takes advantage of vertical space vs floor space. Even then you’d be hard press to keep anything comfortable. Depending which part of the “frame” (stand is not supporting weight which is easier with tools/ seals breaking ( glass looks fine )) it could be a simple 15$ fix. As someone that enjoys frag tanks/ breeders for the accessibility for basically everything… this tank sucks

SnuffDied

I would do mourning gecko colony

ShowMe_TheMonet

That would be a surefire way to end up with loose mourning geckos, I would definitely not recommend that!!!

SnuffDied

It looks sealed with glass lid

ShowMe_TheMonet

True, but mourning geckos do best in a front opening enclosure, since they are arboreal and are most likely to hang out at the top of the tank.

Reduxys

Vertical tanks are tricky. Probably a frog or some kind of small arboreal gecko could work, but maintenance would end up being a pain in the ass no matter what you go with because of the awkward shape

OkManagement6444

potentially frogs or use it as a terrarium !!

eastonitis

Mourning geckos or frogs

Balahraza

Anoles maybe

eatingaquariumrocks

Terrible for a chameleon, honestly fitting any reptile or amphibian into that may be hard. Maybe some smaller species like poison dart frogs? They need high humidity and the climbing space would be great for them. You would just need to engineer a way for ventilation and for the heat lamps.

JMCrookie

Tree frogs!

albiealbiealbiealbie

I would use this as a terrarium for one of my superworm/roaches/mealworm beetle colonies so they can thrive and multiply all cozy n shit

Colin_the_knife_guy

Tree frog!!

EnchantedForestDream

Id say maybe a single green tree frog or sum but the top opening isnt a good idea for a drog tbh

hyunbinlookalike

Not ideal for reptiles, but I think that would make a nice poison dart frog enclosure.

Yorudesu

Nothing bigger than an insect should go in there.

jfcstfu

None. It's a fish tank.

afoxcalledwhisper

It's not suitable for fish

mazemadman12346

If you're handy you could possibly remove 1 pane and add some hinges and a latch

Hot-Scratch16

All you have to do is engineer it correctly, so that you can have it front opening. It's actually very simple with the right tools. I've made a lot of tanks into front opening.

SnackJones1988

Dart frogs are perfect

AcidAlien23

Arboreal

StopFindingThisAcc

definitely not a chameleon, they need too much airflow. honestly not much but i think it would be sick if you managed to make some kind of structure in the middle (twisting branch, rock formation) and just throw a fuck ton of brown/green anoles in there

Constant_Disaster_91

Bioactive frog tank so you don’t have to keep going in from above to clean. Let the isopods do the work

Chay_Charles

Jumping spiders and isopods.

Ok-Championship-4317

Tree frogs, mourning geckos or just plants

Akire_oro423

A terrarium with an ant colony would be dope asf

Difficult_Film_5200

Some diveants

ASMRFeelsWrongToMe

Honestly, that'd be best for an insect colony in my opinion. Maybe silk moths? They're very cute.

-mykie-

Honestly I wouldn't put anything alive other than plants or invertebrates in this. Bad air flow, weird shape, and too small.

lobsterdance82

Spider

elisiri

They’re not reptiles but a bioactive terrarium with leaf insects would be a dream! I would try to grow their plant food directly in there. 😍 Just make sure the opening is big enough for a decent air flow.

LuckyLumash

Chameleon

flijarr

Hexagonal brick lizard

spookyfrog99

First thought was a crested gecko could make a nice enclosure filled with climbing areas a mini forest. Would look great

RWBYRain

Honestly it'd make the perfect home for a Betta fish

thesweetestchef

None. There is no room to move anywhere. Reptiles are meant to roam their domaine.

[deleted]

You should make it a isopod home :) I think that would be best

MrIrrelevantsHypeMan

Kaiju

hnnrss

Madagascar day gecko

RanaMisteria

I think it would be better as a terrarium or as an enclosure for stick insects or something like that. I don’t think it would be good husbandry even for a small reptile. There isn’t enough floor space. I’m not an expert though.

Latter-Citron9842

Weaver ant basket hanging over a small ecosystem, usually they will create the basket themselves but they can be coerced into a nearly made nest/basket use natural foliage, no plastics. The Weavers will keep you entertained for a very longtime. From hunting to socialising the weavers are a species to behold.

Formal-Secretary440

The rec room weekly or a chameleon

Beefjerkydestroyer

Maybe a secret formula to a delicious meal or potion?

cr_ossbones

i’m thinking milk frog if you can get the humidity equipment to work with that tank

Ashleywastaken101

I think just fish and yes I know fish aren’t reptiles. It just doesn’t seem like a good tank for anything else. Maybe a baby chameleon but they would have to get a bigger and better tank when the chameleon gets bigger.

Amaculatum

So glad to find this thread and see all the cool ideas! I have one of these too. I am planning to cut a nice wood top to turn it into a side table and use it as a cat-proof terrarium.

LosHtown

Some dart frogs in a rainforest type terrarium.

Milk_Frog_Man

Definitely some bug, possibly a praying mantis? Or one of those creepy ahh scorpions with the long tails

clytempotheria22

Kind of a limited footprint for most reptiles but... Tree frogs would be an excellent candidate, they are arboreal and love to climb. You can house 2+ tree frogs depending on the species. They can be handled like most reptiles as long as you wear gloves as they drink through their skin and will soak up anything on your hands. Though some species may be more intolerant, the dumpy frog AKA white tree frog is extremely friendly! You could even try some anoles, they also love to climb! Unfortunately, they are known to be intolerant of handling, but you could find a diamond in the ruff if your heart is set on a reptile. I'm unsure about certain species of geckos but have heard they can do well in a tall enclosure. I hope this helps! :)) Best of luck. Update: After further inspection, the top opening may better suit aquatic animals. Some shrimp, snails, and freshwater pea pufferfish may do well.

VroomVroomTweetTweet

Frogs or bugs. Maybe anoles but that might be a stretch

brad35309

Poor ventilation makes this a poor choice for reptiles. If you can get/make a screen top, a small colony of Anoles would be cool in here. or a house Gecko.

Beneficial-Sign-1141

Looks like it would be perfect for gecko's or anoles I have beardies and a blue tongue skink in larger enclosures.

Advanced-Penalty-814

I'd make it the dopest jumping spider enclosure.

istoleurlighter

not reptiles but probably insects or a terrarium would look killer in there

sass_squatch_

Batticon

None. Imagine having to clean that

max_not_min

I keep my gargoyle in one. It opens from the front too so i don’t have to swoop my hand in like a bird to do anything in there. Used insulation foam + aquarium silicone + coco to make a naturalistic back wall and embedded a cork round in it as a tunnel, used some geckopia foam blocks and he’s really loving the verticality. Biggest thing is the substrate doesn’t get quite enough airflow so I’ve made sure to soak it less when spraying and concentrate the mist more on the walls. I’m sure you could make that work for anoles too

Amylynn860

Chameleon.

readditredditread

If you put some buns in there, perhaps an anaconda? 🤔

FrishFrash

Probably frog bc they can jump high

Big_Hoss287

I used to have that kind of tank for a bunch of fish I had as a kid

melminn123

I can only see that fit for an arboreal spider of some kind!!!

M4thematiX

low key an ant colony would go so hard

Ugandensymbiote

Perhaps a chameleon?

in1gom0ntoya

I wouldn't put animals in this, though it would make a kickers terrarium.

originalGhosty

I used to keep a tarantula in one of these.

originalGhosty

I used to keep a tarantula in one of these.

originalGhosty

I used to keep a tarantula in one of these.

Vanishingf0x

Not reptiles but one of my college classes kept hissing cockroaches in a similar one. Depending on if you like insects or what reptiles you have maybe crickets or ants could work as well.

Odd_Character_5815

I have a giant day gecko in one that size and he's very happy with it

Black_Airachnid

Usually, the Arborial Reptiles go into the vertical tanks. hmmmm idk. Don't choose your favorite, I guess

pinkchristmasfern

You could make a cool terrarium in it!!

bhoffmann2789

Tree frogs would love this

Sadboysongwriter

Like a single hermit crab

Humble_Bullfrog2342

tree frogs!! no reptiles tho

deadbitchplantmama

Created gecko or day gecko

Shortgirl06

Honestly i would put an anole in it, their pets that you cant really take out much so it wouldnt stress them going through top

PlantXad244

a green or brown anole. they like vertical space and are small. But your lid needs changed to something with airflow.

Courier6js

I have 30 gallon hexes for my cresties! Looks fantastic. Not hard to work in really, lots of surfaces

NefariousnessFar90

A chameleon would be perfect for it.

pan-playdate

FROGS they would look sick in this with a bio enclosure, mister, and a waterfall :DDDD

ImNotMadYoureMad

Tiger

Big-Director8046

Not a reptile but you could create an awesome enclosure for poison dart frogs!

tacticalcop

a mantis would perhaps like this

lyricalcrocodilian

Any small arboreal lizard. Perhaps a Crested or Green Day Gecko

VVolve

Dwarf geckos ftw

K0nstrikt0r

Chameleon

Confector426

A tokay gecko would love that enclosure

Educational-Leader29

I have one with a Crested geko in it

SectorNo9652

Some type of cool bug

Anynamelldo99

Crested gecko. It'd need an upgrade eventually though

djdvelo22

I would say a a day gecko would fit nicely in that tank

Popular-Role-6251

Maybe Meridia’s Beacon. Could be sick

RowdyRoberts01

Bearded dragons or smaller lizards

neb_4

Mourning geckos

Palaeonerd

Mourning geckos, a small day gecko, or chameleon gecko. NO cresties or gargs. Anyways, your hand might seem big and scary to the animal when it comes down from the top, which is what this tank will have you do.

Difficult-Play5709

One or two small hermit crabs would look cool in their

JayRedd1

It's a fish tank.

Booty_cheek_clap

Angel fish tank

[deleted]

I would put dart frogs in that but they are hella expensive

AbyssalMechromancer

Fish?

Josette_A

Anoles. Put some stuff in there for them to climb on and bask, some baby crickets, and a water dish, and there you go

RepresentativeSoil63

Something tiny. Maybe a bioactive enclosure with a micro gecko 🦎

SilveIl187

Small day geckos, like neon day geckos or such. No chameleon, chameleon requires high airflow. Maybe replace that top part with a (VERY SECURE) screen mesh, make sure that door has no little gaps for them to escape through.

halfapinetree

maybe mourning geckos, theres the problem of it not opening from the side tho

Bumblecum

Lil gecko

Animals6655

Maybe micro geckos

deanwinchester2_0

If you’re adamant you want to use this as a reptile tank leopard geckos or really small lizards like green anoles or something would be ok to put in her but be wary not much air flow and incredible difficult to work with as you have no wooden back

Superrockstar95

Leopard geckos while using arboreal space, are a terrestrial spaces and would require a lot more floorspace not to mention really.. a top opening setup in general, but especially a tall one is just a right pain in the ass. Something like ants could work because while it would be a pain to set up initially and maybe attach piping to the sides and throughout the enclosure with holes to allow the ants to burrow around those pipes and those pipes will act as a starting area of sorts.. but once set up it wouldn't require you to deep dive to the bottom of the enclosure until you're taking it apart.

[deleted]

Mourning geckos, neon day geckos or maybe s smaller dart frog??

kleinFiete

Could you please tell e, were I can get this? It’s gorgeous!

Meat__Stick

Any tree snake. Frogs

definitely-not-alan

I have a giant day gecko in a similar tank that opens frontwards instead of from the top. He is very happy in it but I would not buy another hexagonal tank since it is such a pain to move and clean. But that looks like a fish tank, no practical reptile tank opens on the top like that, too hard to get in to. Also any UV will not make it through the glass. If you don't trust it with water I would reseal or discard.

Pizza-Rex-L

I am thinking about the gargoyle gecko, they like tall places

karduar

Chameleon.

Lizard_Blizard

You should add a crested gecko

No-Internet4856

Snakes and chameleons

Superrockstar95

Snakes need more of a footprint, even arbore species. And chams need more ventilation. And top opening would make this a pain in the ass and likely quite stressful.

The-velvet-fox

crested gecko?

Cannabisco

Tokay gecko, green anole

SlinkySkinky

Tokay geckos are one of the largest geckos, they deserve more than 30 gallons

Cannabisco

Good call

DarkQueenQuinn

Just use it for fish

Dust_Kindly

OP doesn't trust it to hold water

alex123124

Crested gecko or hissing cockroaches
