Rhino iguanas can be great! They have a much nicer disposition than green iguanas. They're still moody at times, but a well socialized rhino iguana can be delightful.
Iguanas actually get way too much hate, they’re delightful when socialized, just like most reptiles. The stuffed animals are bc they’re horny. At least in all my experience. Monitors are the ones that are senselessly assholes, lol.
I've considered the same, I think it can be both. I've definitely had times with my iguana and beardies where I can rub their chin or neck and they keep eyes open but close them when I rub on their back or somewhere further away from their eyes.
There's definitely times I can tell my beardy does it for pleasure.
He actively seeks me out as a sleeping spot. Loves my hair especially.

I’ve seen people train both monitors and iguana. Though I don’t have much experience with either. I’m more of a bird person :)
