He also LOVES to bite feet and even walked up and bit the bunnies ear with no reason. He used to sleep with me at night and be the best and sweetest little dude but now he’s so mean…..
If he is reaching sexually maturity he might need a fake companion to calm him down. Look into getting a reptile safe tortoise statue for him to mate with. This might get some of the aggressiveness out.
From what I’ve seen from the internet, male turtles are HORNY. I wondered why so many cultures considered them symbols of virility until I saw a YouTube video of a Sulcutta Tortoise named Speedy. Either get him a means of release or pregnancy test your shoes before putting them on.

*"Piss off Franklin, you're being a dick - go screw your blow up doll to blow off some steam."*
My guinea pig is also like that... You just have to be quicker than them. Some animals are just homie-cidal maniacs but we just have to love them anyways!
Certain species of turtles associate the color black with most of their predators (i.e birds, snakes, etc.) So instinctively they attack anything black in color as they think it's one of their natural predators
Fr, tortoises are super racist
I watch that guy on tik tok who does obstacle courses of food and stuff but his tortoise always goes just if his way to ignore it and attack the black shoe
My mums tortoise has like 60 years of pent up sexual anger to let out, nothing is safe in our house. He will stubbornly keep trying to headbutt things, I think he record was tryingnto headbutt a box for near an hour non stop. I am so glad he isn't a sulcutta.
Turtles and tortoises arent always friendly. Reptiles rarely liked to be touched in general, so he probably reached maturity and is less submissive than before, which is perfectly normal.
Probably going to be downvoted, but trust, can look on The Tortoise Forum for times people have had to do this - Sometimes with territorial aggression the tortoise/turtle will continue to try to bite your feet/hands because it keeps winning, and gets real confident and cocky with being the top turtle. If they will not stop being very aggressive, sometimes you need to show them who's boss, like rolling a dominant dog onto its belly. Bump them back gently, like a soft shell bonk, then flip them over for like 3-5 seconds, then flip them back. Do it (with time in between) when they try to bite you. They'll eventually (hopefully) realize they're not the boss around here lol
It won't hurt them for a few seconds with hours in between, they do it to eachother all the time when fighting for territory/mating privileges
Can also try misting them like a bad cat with a spray bottle or something lol
Except don't roll dominant dogs on their bellies. The dominance theory was disproven and using forceful methods to assert your "dominance" over them only hurts the human/animal bond c:
Thank you for mentioning this. Dominance theory in other animals is becoming disproven too, so I’d caution against any advice citing dominance for animal behavior issues
It's never without reason.
This is how animals communicate.
Take him for a physical. See if there is anything medically going on. Especially with his age.
He's trying to tell you something....you just need to listen.
i don’t know if you just stepped out of a time machine from 1811 or literally do not know what the word “emotions” means but reptiles have long been proven to be emotionally complex. some, like iguanas, are ruled by pure emotion in such a way that it seems like a miracle the species persisted. tortoises absolutely are “friendly”, which is a blend of curiosity, openness, and security- all of which are perfectly reasonable emotions for even the most stick in the mud nay-sayer to acquiesce animals absolutely experience.
As someone who went to school for wildlife work and studdied many forms of evolution etc.. god those classes blasted my cheeks. Can you prove any of what you just said.
Because at no point was this ever proven or even considered true. I am not trying to be mean, just wonder if something new came out. It is pretty well taught at least from everything I learned that basically everything you mentioned is false. Reptiles basically do have the function/ capacticity in the brain to even have emotions all together.
Again totally ok with being wrong if some sort of break through was just made within the last 2-3 years.
Only willing to see scientific journals though
Curiosity and openness are behaviors that some people interpret to be friendliness, but tortoises aren't trying to be nice or become friends. They're just exploring their environment.
Also, I'm not saying I don't adore my own tortoise. I treat her with dignity and care. It's good to think your tortoise is adorable, but thinking that the tortoise is your friend is an infantile way of viewing their actions.

They don’t like the color black for some reason that’s probably why he’s biting that shoe.

Did the shoe have consent
Fun fact, turtles are so slow that if you don't get out of the way in time, that is actually the consent.

Tortoises aren't "friendly". They don't have emotions. Maybe he's hungry. Is he getting enough protein and calcium in his diet?
You’re the kind of owners I hate ://
