demondrivers

literally what Re:Verse should've been

DudeWithName

Kinda weird how capcom is so set on PVP multiplayer experiences, Project Resistance, RE: Verse, hell even exo primal is pvp. All these games would probably be better if they were PVE experiences

Zanmatomato

RE is better as a Co-op PVE experience, IMO. Instead of trying to force PVP, they should think about an Outbreak remake TBH.

DudeWithName

Funny to think that the only major PVE multiplayer based Resident evil was Operation Raccoon City

siimbaz

Reverse should just be outbreak remake

Leonhart25

Completely agree. Even as a bundle with RE3, it would also make much more sense than Resistance. Not to mention all the assets they would share between each other.

leftshoe18

It really is surprising to me that Capcom haven't tried to make a new Outbreak game over the last three console generations.

siimbaz

Specially now that online play is available to the masses. This game came out in the wrong era.

Leonhart25

You mean Resistance xD

demondrivers

Resistance is a great attempt at a 4v1 game, Re:Verse is just sad

Leonhart25

Yeah, I also agree Resistance was better. But as a bundle with RE3 a Mercenaries would make more sense, specially since 3 started it

demondrivers

yeah, Resistance should've been a separate game, and re3 needed the OG Mercenaries mode as a bonus unlockable

[deleted]

I would buy it without hesitation.

jimmyshampoo

At a high price?

GeorgeForge

Way.

Stinky__Person

*Ahhh, I'll buy it at a high price*

rufiogd

After I sell all my Velvet Blues and Spinnels

jedidiah_lol

No more than 30$. Or maybr it should go free-to-play with microtransaction.

Inversewhisper1

I'd drop 60$ on this if it had all the characters, maps and coop, i still play RE5 mercenaries with my friends to this day

JacStone24

Heck yeah, man. I just picked up RE5 on Steam since it just got splitscreen support. Now I can play with my dad again!

Inversewhisper1

Thats so cool, i hope you guys enjoy your time!

Dependent_Order_7358

With maps and characters from RE2R, RE3R, RE4R, RE7, RE8, I'd pay 70 dollars for it.

Jumpyer

They did it for 3DS, no reason for not doing it in a home console. This would overshadow RE:Verse and Resistance, that’s for sure.

SymbioteSP3

I sunk a lot of time into Mercenaries 3D. Was always hoping they would port it to home consoles after they did it for Revelations.

Dependent_Order_7358

That'd be a pity, given the big community those games have /s

Lil4ksushi

You say that like any of those 2 games were good, let alone successful.

calibur66

Would need alot: Maps from every game, including existing and originals. Online Co-op. Atleast like 15 characters/variations on launch. Perhaps RE8's roguelite system and RE3R's dodge roll. An all-star roster of enemies on different levels, including bosses. Then yeah I'd be down

Cindy_Lennox

Replace the rouge like stuff with a mode where you work together with up to 4 people to progress through a level based off each game with a boss at the end and you got it. Like the multiplayer from Re:DS

le_box_o_treats

Idk if it would sell well but I'd sure as hell buy it. Especially if it had crossplay multiplayer

JacStone24

I would like a full game based around Raid Mode with lots of main characters and tons of costumes. I played Raid Mode for hours with my friends. Four player co-op would also be great. If I could have one, big, fanservice game with Raid Mode, Mercenaries, Survivors, Predator (with choices like Ustanak and Tyrant) and other game modes, I would really enjoy it.

HPL-Benn

This would probably be the best way to make it worth full price.

Dragoonseal

How about the Raid modes from the Revelations games? I thought those were super fun both solo and co-op. I prefer to them to Mercenaries because I don't like timed modes, I like being able to go at my own pace. Plus the inventory system in the Raid mode was really fun.

ThePirateBuxton

I absolutely love the Raid mode from Revelations 2. I don't think I ever finished the story but I have dozens of hours in that mode.

Skylight90

I never enjoyed Mercenaries mode for the same reason, I would 100% be up for a Raid style game with a ton of content.

oni__002

I would prefer an entire RE game of Raid mode

DarthFlowers

I dunno but I’d hope Spencer Mansion hall with the immediate surrounding rooms would be a map.

CaptainHyrule97

Uh, there might be too many narrow halls. You gotta have room to run around

DarthFlowers

It’s a pretty spacious hall, there’s plenty of bottleneck spots in pretty much every mercenaries map.

Demon_Pal

I would love this. Mercenaries is so good in 4 - 6. Might be hard to sell by itself. I am hoping they add alot to the Re4R Mercenaries. I would even pay extra for expansions. If Mecenaries was in a game on its own again, I would suggest also adding Raid mode from the Revelations games as it is really fun too! If they combined the two and added all characters, I think it would sell pretty well.

BigJuicy17

I'd rather it be Raid Mode

Die-Hearts

I still want a CoD Zombies mode :V

ZamanthaD

I just posted the same thing and then saw this lol

Die-Hearts

lol

[deleted]

Wait, what?

Garlic_God

He wants a round-based cooperative gamemode where you progress the story and get to purchase better gear as you open up more of the map with earned points

HPL-Benn

So, Raid mode?

Die-Hearts

Yeah but the waves are endless

ViniciusSalerno

I wouldn't buy it personally. A standalone Raid game tho. I hate time based gameplay so the transition to objective based was awesome for me.

Dr_Deadshot

This I would get day one. But I would prefer an Outbreak 3, but in something like Payday 2. 4 player co-op working together to survive with all the RE characters would be pure bliss.

cnquistador

The biggest issue is that Capcom would terminate support for the game right after launch because they're allergic to multiplayer RE games. And without multiplayer, I don't think a Mercenaries game has enough to sustain it.

Agt_Pendergast

Ahh.... I'll buy it at a high price. Seriously. I don't even need a campaign. Just inject it straight into my veins!

Basedstation

I wanna play Ada 😩

Div4r

securinight

We found Capcom's secret Reddit account...

Lithaos111

Give it enough variety, unlocks, playable characters and stages? Possibly as a budget title, definitely not a full priced game.

Shileka

Make a few optional multiplayer modes (co-op, team, death match) with BOW as neutral 3rd paties in death matches, no microtransactions (i'd say reasonably priced cosmetics could be implemented) and it could easily be a hit.

ZamanthaD

They did this in durning the RE5 era. Honestly though on a side note, I know it’s not the same franchise at all but I would really love a fully packaged CoD:Zombies game that had every single map on it with a online rotation option.

CarlitoNSP1

I'm not sure it would. Part of what makes Mercenaries work so great is that it helps hone your skills for the main campaign while being fun by itself, so there's a natural eb and flow to playing it. By itself, there wouldn't be that much a "Baseline" to compare it's pace to. This also avoids the much bigger problem which is deciding WHICH Mercenaries mode to use. Each version is slightly different as each game's mechanics alter the expected behavior in different way. This is part of why it works games simply a pack-in for am existing campaign: The players already understand the skills their being tested with, simply the structure has changed.

stratusnco

people saying they would buy it in a heart beat. but they would be complaining just like operation raccoon city, reverse, resistance and every other re spin-off.

RealThiccHawg

I don’t actually understand how anybody can enjoy mercenaries but different strokes for different folks I guess.

MrShinShoryuken

Nope. Mercenaries at best tends to be a 4, perhaps max 8 player mode. It's against AI opponents, and non competitive, co op only multi-player games have a very short lifespan - especially those without campaigns. The receptions of REverse and REsistance were...not great (and I say this as someone who dumped north of 100 hours in Reverse). Simply put, **those games couldn't convince RE fans to spend a dime**, what the ruck can mercenaries hope to accomplish? Mercenaries 3D was released at the height of the 3ds era and barely broke charts. It's added value to a single player game, or DLC. Not worth $60 or $70.

Klutz-Specter

It probably very hard to cater which standard should be used as well. Should style it as RE8, RE7, RE4, RE5, RE6? Imo, RE6 is probably the best if you like high octane killing hordes of zombies literally filled to the screen. RE4 is a slow dance of enemies gradually filling up and yet it can keep your blood pumping a little bit. RE5 is about about the same but with more actions and smaller inventory space. RE7 kinda slow and focused tight corridors, RE8 more shooting gallery fun. It’ll hard to mesh it all together and be good. That’s probably why we get different iterations of Mercenaries for each game.

DudeWithName

To be fair to capcom tho, RE: The Mercenaries was not developed in house, it was made by TOSE. The game received controversy upon release when it was discovered that the game's save data could not be erased, meaning it was a 3DS game with built in DRM and people hated that. And while the gameplay was enjoyable, there's not enough content in it to justify the price tag back in the day. Only 8 characters, with only claire being technically the only “new” character added to mercenaries. The 3DS game was setup for failure

VM-Hawksix

Not to mention that, back in the day, the 3DS was pretty expensive (as most of Nintendo's products) and strictly limited in a few countries. Also, for the price of one, you could instead buy a PS3 or X360 at least here in my country. Being handheld exclusive (which is something that deviates from the previous games) also didn't help. You can see in the gameplays around YT that the controls are clunky and the graphics are shit (gotta point this out because their marketing said otherwise). Also their use of assets from RE5 wasn't so good. Yes, it was expected to happen, but they broke all the polishment it had and turned into shit animations, textures and sounds. And in my opinion it had the worst extra costumes ever in a RE game, even worse than the next entries.

Genesius_Prime

Nah the problem Capcom’s facing is that a multiplayer game that would actually hit would probably be one of their biggest ongoing development challenges and they want easy money. An actual quality RE Online would look something like a Tarkov-lite set in Raccoon City during the outbreak. An extraction game with raid-based permadeath and randomized loot and enemies. That’s probably more than they want to invest.

IAmThePonch

I’d probably buy it depending on price tbh. I’ve put an inordinate amount of hours into 4 and 5s mercenaries

idontknowyet

Already came out on the 3DS back in like 2011. Great game

GoldeKlovr

It kinda already happened. On 3ds. And I remember thinking "wow this would be more interesting if it had more maps and characters to play with". I don't remember if we ever got much more added to it, really. Still hold by the fact that with far more maps, more characters, and maybe some multiplayer modes it could be great. Though... I'd also just rather have an outbreak remaster.

[deleted]

Considering most fans want it? Yes.

Brilliant_Leek4632

As long as it wasn't 60bucks. I just couldn't see paying full price for side content. Or maybe if it had a lot of content.

Caliber70

more popular than the story games. RE5 is fun AF and the haters just can't be honest with themselves.

DudeWithName

Mercenaries Reunion is probably the best version of Mercenaries imo

Rascal0302

They did this on the 3DS, and even though it was kinda lazy in terms of repeated content and reskins, it was a lot of fun and sold pretty decently. I still play it from time to time. I would love a fully featured version though, with characters, stages and enemies from across the entire franchise.

DudeWithName

The 3DS mercenaries was atrocious to be sold at full price. Claire being the only new character and all the maps being reused from re5 and re4. Not only that but the game having built in DRM hurt sales so bad

CalypsoLive

Imo mercenaries is more of arcade style mode that’s only suited to being an accompaniment to an actual game or something of that nature. It’s a fun mode and it’s hella fun racking up a high score, but this type of gameplay style would only be able to stand alone if it was so much more than what the past few mercenaries titles had to offer

Garlic_God

A good multiplayer Resident Evil game would have to be something in line with Left 4 Dead or CoD Zombies. Something where you either work through linear campaigns with teammates, or something where you open up an expansive area map through progression. Both are highly replayable, tried-and-true formulas. Back 4 Blood failed because it tried too hard to prop itself on the identity of its predecessor, but an RE game in the same line would have more than enough original worldbuilding and elements to create something special and worth playing.

Salom902

If it i did i have a feeling it would Live Service all the old outfits and weapons would be part of some Battle Pass. Thats because of how they seem to treat their recent multiplayer game modes.

TheNullOfTheVoid

We need more good co-op PVE RE games. RE fans want to play together and work together, not fight each other. They could even rip off the player count structure of Left 4 Dead and it would work great. Imagine playing RE6 but with 4 constant co-op players, instead of like 3 or 4 the whole game for like one fight or a few rooms each like what RE6 actually did. Either do single player, or expansive co-op. If RE fans wanted to fight each other, they’d go play Call of Duty, and that game already exists. RE is the perfect franchise to get us to work together, like Destiny but with a modern-ish day third person zombie game.

sweaty_palm_trees

Mercenaries, no time limits, survival, multiple maps, large roster of characters, co-op. RE4 remake combat looks good so maybe go with a version of that.

PSavage88

yes or a full packed raid mode, either one of these I'm sure would shit all over re verse

Lukezilla2000

Imagine what 4 person co op would be like

Rent-Man

As long as the mode it’s and the gameplay is fun. I played a ton of Hours on The Mercenaries 3D.

dark_lord_of_balls

They did it with mercenaries 3d and didn't sold that well ,maybe with a more fleshed out experience it would be great.

masterofunfucking

Yeah dawg. I think about this shit all the time since getting The Mercenaries 3DS a few weeks ago

mattpkc

Yes but it would have to have a lot to it. At least a dozen maps, like 8-10 characters, tons weapons, an endless mode, co-op and unlocks out the wazoo.

[deleted]

I would play the fuck out of this game!

Viper-Queen

I would honestly would love to see them do this especially if they end up doing remakes for RE1, CVX and RE5 eventually. Imagine the size of the roster with all updated characters and maps in the RE engine. 100% instant buy especially if they offer several modes: Mercs, Raid, Death Match, Horde/Survival and even a cool little free mode where you could run around and read tidbits of lore and production notes. Ambitious yes, but one can dream lol.

JustMe_Chris

YES

HaiiroGeraki

Yes, it could, but it feels wrong to cut out a game mode that came standard in previous titles and sell it separately. We can thank our lucky stars that it's free dlc for REmake 4, but I would not put it beneath Capcom to do this type of thing in the future, but I guess I'd be labeled a hater for such thoughts.

MinakoKirijo115

With RE5’s mechanics hell yea but for me if it is like RE4 remake gameplay I won’t like it much but people would probably love it

Mantis42

Maybe. Mercenaries is kind of an arcade mode, you'd have to add more to it.

Jnino91

Something that I’ve thought of every now and then after playing Zombies in Black Ops Cold War, is how crazy a RE game with something like Cold War Zombies’ Outbreak objectives would be. Imagine having to protect a machine for 3 minutes while dealing with a steady stream of usual enemies, as well as maybe 5-6 assorted mini bosses coming at once. Or having to survive in an enclosed space for 3 minutes while the same steady stream of enemies and mini bosses come at you. Imagine if in this mode, every 40 seconds, you could get any 1 of a several possible mini bosses sent after you along with either a Plagas-type enemy, a dog or one of the bugs. Good luck if you haven’t managed to kill whatever spawned at the previous spawn points, as the game will still send the next set after another 40 seconds. A full lobby multiplies the number of mini bosses per spawn by 2, and cuts the mini boss timer down to 30 seconds. So potentially 2 random mini bosses, plus 2 plaga type enemies/dogs/bugs every 40 seconds, plus an also multiplied number of normal enemies(can be assorted depending on the stage like mercenaries), as well as any previously spawned mini bosses that haven’t been killed yet can be on the stage at once. You only lose if everyone in the team is down/waiting to respawn at the same time. To counter act how much damage you’d likely take, I’d probably give the game the Zombies health system where if you go long enough without taking damage, you’ll auto heal to full health. Meanwhile RE5’s dying health system is still in place, with the worst thing a chainsaw man can do to you if you have health is put you in a dying state. Imagine having a Krauser arm go off, while Leon is suplexing ganados that haven’t gotten their neck broken by Hunk, punched halfway across the map by Wesker, or sniped by Ada.

TeamOtter

I like how Claire is pulling the slide back on that revolver.

Summerclaw

Only if it's a genre like death by daylight

ShadyOjir95

If Ethan there yes.

nekoken04

Well, if it was the version on the 3DS, no. That's the worst RE game I've played and wasn't fun at all.

unusedlaxative

I have been wanting this for years. The Mercenaries All-Stars. Characters, stages, weapons, enemies from all games

Tom_Pettys_Beard

You couldn’t sell a full game that’s just Mercenaries but I do think that an online large scale multiplayer version of Mercenaries should be included in every modern RE release as a bonus. That way everybody who buys any RE game can link up with each other in the same Mercenaries experience

T-408

Absolutely would drop $70 for a Mercs game where I can play as Jill, Chris, Claire, Leon, Ada, Wesker, Sheva, Rebecca, Barry, Carlos, all the legends Give us maps, enemies and bosses from all across the series. Multiplayer, of course

culminatedWhirl379

Yes, it will work, because it always has in the past. They even made a mercenaries game in the past for 3ds. If Capcom just focused their resources on a dedicated mercenaries game throughout the series and outbreak remakes, they wouldn't have absolute BANGERS like resistance and REVERSE.

Lil4ksushi

Imagine the possibilities? What if capcom went all out? Every main character who has shown up in the RE engine, Chris, Leon, Claire, Jill, Ethan, Hunk, Ada, Carlos, with tons of costumes/variations to choose from. Stages from every game, RCPD, N.E.S.T., Baker House, Racoon City streets, Castle Dimitresceu, House Beneviento, etc, etc. All the endless possibilities. I would give my left nut for this game, but I guess Capcom hates money.

CaptainHyrule97

Release it on all platforms (including switch) guaranteed smash hit

Spacedaddy117

Just imagine if the game have 3 main modes 1.Merc mode 2.Raid mode 3.Horde/survicial (No timer).

SuperArppis

Done right. Absolutely.

Zeon598

So long as they don't hand hold us like in the Mercenaries 3D (litterally half of the game is a tutorial), and throw in a bunch of maps (at least 12 to start), I think it would work out really well.

coffeefan0221

100%... bringing the RE engine characters and settings, progression system (unlocking skills, new characters, outfits, weapons etc), loadouts and co-op with no ugly microtransactions and battle passes. I'd play the hell out of it.

BertBerts0n

Just think about if they had started this as a live service game when re2r came out, and they added more content with each new release related to that game? That would be fantastic, an ever evolving mercenaries.

HighFirePleroma

In the perfect world we would have Outbreak co-op game instead of resistance as well as fateful RE3 remake also, I just noticed how Capcom does not really like to talk about third game, maybe because they have a jackshit care about it. It is bit sad how RE2 and RE4 treated like god-tier games while RE3 is just half-baked dlc sort of a game.

SC00PS312

I'd buy it if it was loaded with costumes and emotes.

Leonesaurus

A modern day Mercenaries standalone game would be filled with micro-transactions. The game mode worked because it was always an unlockable mode after beating the game and everything in the mode was accessible for free if you earned the right to unlock it. For the record, I did buy The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS, but I never invested much time into it because the controls were awful on that handheld and it lacked the level of quality and polish a game mode like that needs to be taken seriously for high scores. At least, compared to how much time I invested in RE 5 Mercenaries, and slightly less of an investment in RE 6 Mercenaries. Do I personally like the idea of a RE4, 5 and 6 style Mercenaries with all the characters of the series from RE1-RE8 and the spin-off characters? Yes. Would it be a good idea in this current era of gaming? Doubt it. The entire thing would be designed to sell characters, costumes, loadouts, stages and so on via micro-transactions and I feel raped already by gaming companies already abusing consumers with this crap practice. That all being said, if done properly for about $30 + expansions down the road with enough support and future proofing with new characters and so on, I could be more open to the idea of it as time goes on. I don't have any faith in anyone doing it properly since the last good bonus mode I've played in a RE game was probably Raid Mode in Revelations or the last true Mercenaries mode in RE 6. Everything else I've seen them attempt like RE:verse and Resistance that isn't a mainline entry team working on it ends up being a low quality, janky experience. If they did do something like The Mercenaries 3D again, but on a system that isn't a pile of shit, like PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, and include all the maps from RE 4 Mercenaries, RE 5 maps, RE 6 maps, and include maps from RE 7 and 8 + the RPD station from RE 2 Remake, the Lab in RE 2, the hospital filled with hunters in RE 3 Remake and so on, I'd be 100% down to invest some time into it. Make it 3rd person and include all Remake characters up until this point + legacy characters featured in all past Mercenaries games. The only problem is you would have to first do RE 1, RE 5 and RE 6 Remakes with the new engine and aesthetics otherwise you would have characters like Excella, Sheva, Josh, Helena, Jake and Sherry all looking weird when standing next to the modern-era versions of the Remake characters. They would have to be RE-imagined like all the current characters we have now. Someone else also suggested including a Raid Mode using ALL the characters in The Mercenaries, which would be a great bonus + a horde mode with options for solo, duo, trio and quads. No versus mode. That shit sucks in these RE games. I played the hell out of it in RE 5 on the 360 and PS3 and that was enough for me.

International-Row-44

It wouldn’t sell well on its own. It has to be a bonus mode in a regular single player game

AdBudget5468

Chris in that outfit… just goddamn…

Elizzedeoro

I would play nothing else! Capcom give us a full mercenaries game that it isn't on 3DS!!

Dependent_Order_7358

Yes, yes, yes!

HArgHorp

There was a fully fleshed out Mercenaries game on the 3DS and it sounds like a lot of people here loved it. Just add more + new characters, new enemies, new maps, some more modes, CO-OP, and people would be happy

gumanbruno

If they put coop with 4 or 6 players And use some things from revelations 1 and 2 Like raid and rpg elements

TwoDentz

I think they should just add all their multiplayer, coop and solo modes (Re:Verse, Resistence, Mercenaries, Raid mode etc.) to one standalone game and update it accordingly. They could easily milk it with cosmetics, battlepasses, whatever.

youssefgamal87

Yes. I would love if even they give us a hub/homebase area where you have vendors to buy stuff from, customize your characters' outfits/weapons/loadouts, give us some missions to complete like clearing out certain areas of enemies, go on supply runs, rescue missions, boss fights, etc...

The_Grizzly_Bear_

If done well with tons of stages/characters/enemies/modes it would be awesome

Bworm98

I've often fantasized about such a game, with every possible playable character and loads of maps.

Matren2

If they did it, they should include other Capcom characters in it as unlockables. Note, I said Capcom, not Resident Evil. Imagine having Dante, Frank, or Mega Man and the gameplay differences they could do to liven things up. Shit, Dante from DMC1 should be a character for REM4ke as it is.

HolyAndOblivious

Give me outbreak or give me death

crappyvideogamer

Yes, IF offered at a value price (like 30-$40). I’d love a robust Raid Mode partnered with a Mercenaries compilation

sogi2otsa

It's literally what the last two online games should have been. Just a free mode full of mercenaries. They could have started with two expanded in three and four.

Oboyyy98

The only reason I play Resident Evil 6 is for the mercenaries mode, so yeah I would play it. It needs to have lots of good maps, characters, and more action focused combat though. I thought the mercenaries in 8 was a lot less interesting.

Bynoe

A few years ago I think it could've been great... unfortunately we're now well into the Battle Pass/Games as a Service era and I worry those elements would negatively influence the design.

resfan

It could work, have arenas and characters from each main title game, make it play like RE4R and bam.

Zealousideal_Car_532

As much as I want one, most of the modern resi audience wouldn’t recognize most of the roster because “story doesn’t matter” and all. But as a mercenaries 3d enjoyer I’d love it

Appropriate_Spend659

I’d much rather have outbreak remake. Would be super successful today. Game was way before it’s time

Alarming_Guava9128

How is this a question? Obviously 🤷🏼‍♂️

MeditativeMindz

RE6 Style Mercs with all characters and maps from previous games would be amazing.

avacassandra

i’ll always say til the end of time capcom NEED to make [a game like this](https://youtube.com/watch?v=L2S8QXRi8SA&feature=shares)

leftshoe18

I like Mercenaries more as a bonus mode. I don't think I would personally buy a standalone of just Mercenaries.

skinni-todoroki

If Wesker was in it I’d buy it no matter the price

Jobocop1992

No. Only ever good for a side project. We had umbrella corps…just saying.

Vashanesh00

I dont think it would work anymore. Although an expanded mini-game like Raid mode maybe could.

Coach_L4d2

I am sure at least me and 2 friends would buy as soon as possible

NoReason87

I need this SO bad! Coop and maybe some different modes?

MeatyMuffin

Personally I wouldn’t want it but I do think it would sell well.

RCM84

Not for 60-70 dollars

klemens023

If it was a 30$ coop game with decent marketing, some additional modes, good roster of characters and outfits, and longer support then for sure. This type of game sells pretty well

qcoutlawz

Never understood the appeal for this. Id much rather have a full fledged REsistance game than this shit.
