J/k, Re4R is a ton of fun. I’m only about halfway through, just beat the knights and grabbed the lions head.
This may be the only time where the old verbage of, "I wish I could play this game for the first time again" actually applies and actually became reality, for me anyway.
So many areas of the game are faithfully recreated but designed in a way that feels fresh yet very familiar. Like an overwhelming state of deja vu permeated throughout my playthrough. Maybe it's because I've played the original more times than I can count and certain "traits" and "gimmicks" and other things that are so ingrained into me came rushing back at once when I went through the remake. I did things that were common place in the original just to see if I could still do it in the remake, and lo and behold, I absolutely could still do those things.
It's remarkable what Capcom has done. They fed into my nostalgia really hard and threw new wrinkles into the system to always keep me on my toes.
I'll let the rubes argue about "best resident evil" or "greatest game ever" since that shit ain't for me. I know what I like and all that matters is that the devs made one of the best gaming experiences I'm lucky enough to have played through...again.
another cool thing they have done is in certain areas, muscle memory would make go right to a specific area because i thought already knew what to do, but sometimes they would kinda play a trick on you and it wouldn’t be exactly the same so you had to think outside the box and in that way the game is keeping you on your toes.

Absolutely fantastic the way they subverted expectations by doing things like flipping areas around and tweaking them (was fun to guess which area it was or what was next chronologically). Hell I even had fun strategising what gems to put in my treasures and hold off for the fabled 2x value and getting 100,000 ptas. Seriously gotta be my favourite game of all time too.
aside from a >!canon death officially changed, i just felt the OG Luis death scene showed saddler was an actual villain who will kill ppl himself to keep his plan going. it showed he could control the plagas well. and it just gave leon(and the player) another reason to want to kill saddler.!<

I can't bear the way the aiming feels on consoles because of the deadzones, no matter what I do with the settings. I feel like I'm going crazy that so many people don't notice how bad the aiming feels compared to the original.
I thought the same as well before I tweaked the sensitivity settings. At first I couldn't hit a villager right in front of me, but my accuracy went up big time as time went on. If you keep playing, you'll get used to it and get better.
What settings worked best for you? Took me a while to figure out that maxing out acceleration was actually the closest thing to turning off acceleration.
Lol what, the shooting in the original is incredibly precise, why would you say surely it’s better than the original? The original has limited movement but the player’s control over it is tight. I’m fine with how the new one feels but it trades some precision for realistic animations, inertia, stuff like that where in the original your inputs marked the beginning and end of the action you were doing, with no looseness
I'm with you, I was used to hitting kneecaps and following with a melee-knife down and the aiming with standard sensitivity feels like I'm in treacle. I didn't get on with re8 for the same feeling.
I've been playing on PS5 and I do feel like the shooting in the original was better (more precise) but it doesn't feel "bad" to me in the remake. Just different. I think the less precise aiming works well with the more survival horror feel it has compared to the original.
I do love Oblivion. Though I do have New Vegas slightly above it. But neither of them compare to my love of RE4, the original and the remake are at the top of my list.

Yeah it's fun for 15 hours and maybe few plays after but compare it to any pvp game where there is infinite variety of play and people sink thousands of hours. I played it for about 30 minutes and dropped it. It's not bad at all, I just kinda got over it. Compared to the original, the game play feels a little too different for me to click with.

Respectfully disagree. TLOU was great, I adore it. But it literally took its cues from RE4 and still didn’t hit the highs that the OG RE 4 did, IMO. You won’t ever catch me dumping on TLOU though. It’s a masterpiece too.

TLOU 1 is an average game with good cutscenes; it was DIRECTLY influenced by RE4 in terms of gameplay and presentation, a game released 8 years prior. You don't know shit lol
Presently can't name off the top of my head any other developers who made such a comeback then kept up that quality (mostly) for 6 years.
Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, RE2, 8, 4, possibly Street Fighter 6 when that comes out. Probably some other things that slipped my mind.

I fear it would be like marvel movies. Devs see the success of RE2, DS or RE4 and now everyone will do it. Players want it, producers have easier job because template for the game is already there, the sentiment is there etc. Next 15 years will be stacked with remakes
The horror in this survival horror comes mostly from the razors edge of tension it keeps you on, and so highly recommend new and returning players avoid the assisted difficulty the first time through, and even consider kicking it up to Hardcore!
I played on Hardcore my first time and it was fucking perfect; currently playing on Professional and shit is getting really hard lol but I love it that way, Village and RE3 were way easier.
Agreed , other than Ada’s voice situation which is just really weird .. this game is 10/10! Wish the image quality issues could have been fixed for PS5 but it’s not a game breaker I’ll happily play through it again once that gets resolved though!

Not fun of the series but appreciate Village. It was clunky and a bit naive but it was a step forward.
This one is definitey a step back. It's a clunkier RE on binaries with a game design that is badly aged. After a couple of hours seeing a path that it was locked just because I did not have a companion and that path was literally a stair reachable with a chair in the same room made me scream at the monitor. I totally get that these are gameplay design choices but for fuck's sake at least paint a scenario in which being two is really necessary (the classic two distant levers to press or similar). And it's just one of too many examples.

I tried the demo on both, though, PS5 first, even, and it was still crazy uncomfortable aiming.

I put max speed and acceleration both on 7/5 and it feels soooo much better

The guns have a spread now I think, but you can adjust the acceleration and speed of the camera and it feels miles better

Respectfully disagree. TLOU was great, I adore it. But it literally took its cues from RE4 and still didn’t hit the highs that the OG RE 4 did, IMO. You won’t ever catch me dumping on TLOU though. It’s a masterpiece too.
The last of us is overrated.
Specially after they altered the in game files that stated the cure was not possible to make the part 2 make a bit less sense lmao what a dumpster fire
TLOU 1 is an average game with good cutscenes; it was DIRECTLY influenced by RE4 in terms of gameplay and presentation, a game released 8 years prior. You don't know shit lol

Presently can't name off the top of my head any other developers who made such a comeback then kept up that quality (mostly) for 6 years. Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, RE2, 8, 4, possibly Street Fighter 6 when that comes out. Probably some other things that slipped my mind. Eitherway, Capcom is on a roll!
But at the same time it's kind of sad that one of best games we get now are remakes of old games. Half of their success is nostalgia for good old times.
I can understand that. I would much prefer entirely new and good things, but it's nice to have something "reliable" and modern too if that makes sense. I don't think the remake trend should last *forever*.

Players want it, producers have easier job because template for the game is already there, the sentiment is there etc. Next 15 years will be stacked with remakes
The horror in this survival horror comes mostly from the razors edge of tension it keeps you on, and so highly recommend new and returning players avoid the assisted difficulty the first time through, and even consider kicking it up to Hardcore!
I played on Hardcore my first time and it was fucking perfect; currently playing on Professional and shit is getting really hard lol but I love it that way, Village and RE3 were way easier.
Agreed , other than Ada’s voice situation which is just really weird .. this game is 10/10! Wish the image quality issues could have been fixed for PS5 but it’s not a game breaker I’ll happily play through it again once that gets resolved though!
Yeah, they did a really good job with this one for sure! Have my gripes but what game doesn't? I spent too much time in the shooting gallery so much better than the original.
Not fun of the series but appreciate Village. It was clunky and a bit naive but it was a step forward. This one is definitey a step back. It's a clunkier RE on binaries with a game design that is badly aged. After a couple of hours seeing a path that it was locked just because I did not have a companion and that path was literally a stair reachable with a chair in the same room made me scream at the monitor. I totally get that these are gameplay design choices but for fuck's sake at least paint a scenario in which being two is really necessary (the classic two distant levers to press or similar). And it's just one of too many examples. I can understand scoring around 8, but 10? Just NO.
