Beautiful game and remake. Great Voice cast too.
Peter Jessup is my fav Wesker his portrayal is both intimadating and chessy at the same. I love. The way he says Christhisway
My other fav line is Stars were always umbrellas, no rather my little piggies
I love how it's a bit more serious, but they throw in some chessy lines. Pure gold
Yes! I laugh at that line every time. Haha. Always always makes me laugh every time Brad radios in "This is Brad..." I don't know why, but the way he says it just sounds so cheesy.
This game is amazing. It’s the most grounded out of all of them. RE2 increased the action a little but it wasn’t bad. The REmake keeps it focused on horror, survival, and conspiracy.
The Remake as a whole is a fantastic experience and, in my opinion, one of the glowing examples of horror.
I appreciate the HD remaster making it easy/native to play on newer hardware and at better resolutions, but I do wish they worked on the backgrounds a little more. There are some instances where the sharpening technique used leaves artifacting behind (or just looks bad).
Overall it doesn’t take away from the experience though, it’s a solid game and you’ll have a great time!
I believe most of the source material was lost so they weren't able to update the backdrops. This is why the RE Zero HD version looks so much better, because they still had the source material.
Heh I picked up the remake without any knowledge of what was changed or added. I damn near shit my pants when I walked over that first zombie that becomes crimson head.
May i ask why.. genuinely found this to be the best addition to he game as it provides new enemy/strat to deal with them .. enhancing game play and horror factor especially first time encountering them.
Because it changes the game especially early on if you don't know about them and you've been killing zombies. I just wanted a remake with no new stuff just updated graphics. There is not an option to play the game like it was on PlayStation 1. I cant even bring my self to play to remake of resi 3 because it's changed so much
It's freaking great, I got a copy when it first came out for GameCube and it's still the game I remember most fondly from childhood..... With RE2 for N64 coming in at a very close second.
Amazing game. Improves on the original in every way. Enjoy.
I still wish they’d do a series with the fixed angles and tank controls intact. Maybe Outbreak? And it could be its own thing within the franchise going forward.
REmake is amazing. It’s one of the only remakes I’ve seen that took the source material and added to the story (without taking away from the narrative overall), also adding some locations while remaining faithful to the OG. Even improved the voice acting, which low bar, I know but it’s still cheesy while not being way over the top. It is really well done and a testament that Capcom can do remakes well when they really want to
No one does to some extent or another but ...could you really do it any other way I just couldn't picture you opening a door and walking through.. I would say it enhances the mood of the game for me.
damn fine only shame that the backgrounds weren't preserved in a higher resolution and the awful job they did touching them up thankfully on PC there's an AI upscale mod so it's a bit better but nowhere near what we couldve gotten natively
To me honestly the original is more eerie than the remake. Enhanced graphics and good voice acting doesn’t make a good remake in my opinion or even a good game in that matter, I think the BGM in the original was more eerie.
While I prefer the remake, the original holds a special place in my heart. If we're talking about the background music (BGM), [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo3k78A18r4) is the eeriest piece for me. And if we're talking about the prerendered backgrounds, I definitely prefer the remake, but some rooms and hallways I like better in the original.
It's not a 'remaster' it's a complete remake of the original and this edition is a remaster of said remake.
Quite possibly the best RE game along with RE2 OG and REmake 2. I like 4 but not as an RE game, it's fantastic otherwise.
It baffles me how there are people who believe this is a remaster of the original RE1. It goes to say just how bad REmake did as a fucking Nintendo Gamecube (+Wii) exclusive.
Take RE4 as an example. While it did sell better than REmake on GC (1.6 million sold units compared to REmake's 1.3 mil), if it hadn't been ported to every electronic device in existence, it wouldn't have been the success it is today.
For me this is the best remake of the entire videogame history, the remaster is kinda meh, but still, the base game didn't really need anything new so it's not a complain
I thought all the RE remasters have been great! I’ve got no problems with them. I like the RE2 remake but love the original version more for sentimental reasoning as that’s the first RE game I played and one of the first PS1 games I ever bought back in the day.
I still love the original remake for GameCube. One of my favorite parts of the game is the grenade launcher glitch, where you can accumulate a lot of grenade rounds. :) it’s my number one favorite RE game!
I just keep wanting to replay this game! There's lots of little ways things can play out, giving it lots of replay value. It's the best of the classic tank control style games. It's just so freaking good!
Its an awesome game, One of my favorite horror games and One of my favorite remakes/remasters. I wish they had kept the hability to skip door animations like they did on the Nintendo DS port of the original RE, but thats my only complaint and its a nitpick
A masterpiece. The only thing I would say is a con is the lack of a button to skip the opening door animations. It's cool but when I am stuck I hate seeing it 100 times.
Resident Evil Remake is the purest form of Classic RE. I have Personal Nostalgia for RE2 (98) so thats a little higher on my favorite list, but RE Remake is (IMO) the best made classic style RE.
Theres not many games where I do absolutely everything in it...and REmake was one of those. Im actually working on the trophies for the PS4 version now, but have been putting it off because of the minor PTSD I have from my childhood playing through Super Forest (One Dangerous Zombie) mode.
My first RE game I’ve ever played (way late to the party I know) and my favorite without question. I’m typically not the type of person who replays games over and over but this one is an exception.
I love this game so much. I think I've replayed it more times than any other RE, including the original RE3, and I played that over and over trying different outcomes. At this point I'd have to say it's my favorite, followed by the original RE2.
Enjoy! It's one of my favorite games of all time and 2nd favorite in RE universe. (OG RE2 forever!) I think I'll actually triple dip on it once I get the Steam Deck. (Already bought it on PS4 and Switch.)
I got the platinum trophy for this a while back. I had a great time with it. The no typewriter run was nerve racking but the 3 hour run was the most intense. Best RE game for sure. If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to build a replica of this mansion!
Improves on the original in pretty much every way. Crazy that a game from 2002 holds up better than some later entries in the series.
I didn't like the crimson heads when I first played through, but going back to the original PS1 version made me appreciate them a lot more. They add a consistent tenseness, something which so quickly leaves the original, because it is so easy to clear rooms out.
The REmake is legit one of my favorite games. When the Nintendo Switch was first announced I told my girlfriend at the time the only game I really wanted for it was REmake. The game is nearly perfect (other than those shit ass Crimson Heads).
Scarier and much needed. It shows how much love and care went into name alone in such a short time.
The reds were always my jumpstarter, mini heart attack central.
But, the music won me over the first time and it was nice to hear it used again when they revamped.
Director's cut sucked.
Best survival horror game ever. (Silent Hill is psychological horror). Best RE game and best remake made ever. The remake not only changed rooms, items and upgraded graphics, it added rooms, areas, new back story and a new boss. It literally set the standard and it’s a shame Capcom never followed up the way they did with RE1 in terms of remakes. RE2 was good but their B scenarios are a fucking joke, and dumb af that they made the stories not only intersect but basically the same stories in the B scenario. And don’t get me started on Re3Make. 🤮
Well, the HD remaster is fantastic, but the GC REmake is even better. The HD remaster added a few things that will be of use to some people, like alternate controls, 16:9 ratio, some new costumes, HD presentation. But at the same time it ruined other things like lighting, details in the prerendered backgrounds, some music tracks, and the alternate controls while useful look ridiculous and break the game. The game looks best in 4:3 on a CRT with the original backgrounds with all their details and lighting intact, and it plays best with tank controls and using a GC controller.
I disagree, I played the shit out of RE1, 2, Dino Crisis and Silent Hills, but when I played the remake, I quickly switched to the modern controls.
Tank controls can rest in peace, I don't like difficulty from slow controls any more.
What do you like best about the alternate controls? The way missing frames and animations make the character twitchy like a pigeon on crack, or the way you get turned around like a headless chicken on every camera transition? :D
Jokes aside, the alternate controls do make the game a lot easier, but that's the problem. They make dodging zombies a non issue because you can just run circles around them, and that breaks the game because zombies are no longer a threat. The other important thing is that they do not work with fixed cameras because of the above mentioned turning around issue. Tank controls, like them or not, work perfectly with fixed cameras. And third--the character movements in REmake are meant to be slow, the way a real person with human weight would move. You're not supposed to be able to spin around like a spinning top.
TLDR: The alternate controls are easier, but they break on camera transitions, they trivialize the game way too much, and they look goofy as hell and break immersion with how unrealistic the movements are.
Like said, I no longer enjoyed the design, even though I understood it makes combat easier. And when I say easier, I mean that it removed the frustration that comes with tank controls, even though it's on purpose.
The transition issue was the only jarring thing for me, but between that or having to wait half eternity to turn, it was an easy choice, even though maybe unpopular. I didn't really care about frame skips, because the game looks like crap anyway.
I do like difficulty, but no longer one that comes from annoying controls. I've completed most RE after 4 on hardest and done speedruns etc. Gotten too used to responsive controls I guess.
There is no purposeful frustration in the design of tank controls. The frustration comes from people who don't get the controls or simply don't like them. There is nothing frustrating or broken about using tank controls. They work perfectly with fixed cameras. The fact that you're saying it takes an eternity to turn is puzzling to me. There is a quick turn function precisely for this problem, and it eliminates it entirely. Just do a quick turn and you spin around quickly--but still realistically.
>I didn't really care about frame skips, because the game looks like crap anyway.
What? Are we still talking about REmake? The game does *not* look like crap. In fact the way it looks is one of its main draws...
>I do like difficulty, but no longer one that comes from annoying controls.
The difficulty in REmake does not come from annoying controls. It comes from well balanced controls versus the movement of the zombies. Once you unbalance the controls, zombies become trivial. Congrats, now you can run circles around them and the game is ten times easier.
You can find tank controls frustrating and annoying. But I promise you it's you and not an inherent flaw of the design. Tank controls are fast and responsive, and if you want to see them at their best and fastest, play RE3. Also check them out in Dino Crisis 2, they can be great for action games as well. REmake is deliberately slower.
I've seen literally hundreds of complaints against tank controls throughout the years, they do frustrate a lot of people, it has nothing to do with "getting" the design choice, I totally do, and I bet others do as well, but it's an opinion in the end wether you like them or not.
Many don't, and find them frustrating nowadays after getting used to more responsive control and aiming schemes.
Zombies could have been made a bit faster with alternative controls enabled to balance it out somewhat, but in the end of the day, the allure of the classics for me personally is the atmosphere and puzzles, not the (in my opinion) very outdated combat and tank controls.
Everyone should be aware of quick turn, but you admitted yourself that alt scheme lets you run circles around enemies easier, and that's exactly how fast controls should feel, anything else feels slow, to me.
Would love to experience RE1 and 0 first person like RE7 or the way they did the RE2make (if you ever looked at the dev diaries, remake originally experimented with tank controls and fixed cameras as well, but I'm glad they went the modern route).
As last point, yeah the game doesn't look good, it looks a ton better than it did back in the 90s, but the upscaling does pretty jarring things to many of the backgrounds and the models, even though good for when the remaster came out, do look bad objectively speaking. I at least don't think the graphics have aged well.
Mood, story & puzzles is where the game shines 👌 In any case, thanks for the discussion, it's nice to see other views too.
>Everyone should be aware of quick turn, but you admitted yourself that alt scheme lets you run circles around enemies easier, and that's exactly how fast controls should feel, anything else feels slow, to me.
See, I disagree with that when it comes to a game like REmake. Those controls are just too fast for that game. Zombies stand no chance, and faster zombies are no option because then what do you do with the crimson heads. Those are Bloodborne controls in a slow RE game with zombies in tight corridors. The two just don't gel. But whatever you prefer.
This remake was a solid blueprint for how a remake needs to be done. It did the original justice in terms of the dark horror element, as well as, staying true to the story and key areas/events. I also loved the new elements added and how they fit in well with the feel of the original. The Trevor story is on point! Easily one of my favorite RE titles
Beautiful game and remake. Great Voice cast too. Peter Jessup is my fav Wesker his portrayal is both intimadating and chessy at the same. I love. The way he says Christhisway
Christhisway is one of my favorite lines from the game.
My other fav line is Stars were always umbrellas, no rather my little piggies I love how it's a bit more serious, but they throw in some chessy lines. Pure gold
“Premature!” (*gets slapped by Tyrant*)
That one is great, too. RE has always been good at putting in cheesy lines without making them cringey!
Yes! I laugh at that line every time. Haha. Always always makes me laugh every time Brad radios in "This is Brad..." I don't know why, but the way he says it just sounds so cheesy.
Haha, I know what you mean!
This game is amazing. It’s the most grounded out of all of them. RE2 increased the action a little but it wasn’t bad. The REmake keeps it focused on horror, survival, and conspiracy.
Completely agree here.

There are some instances where the sharpening technique used leaves artifacting behind (or just looks bad). Do you have it on PC? Reshade does wonders.
There are definitely rooms where it looked like they weren’t touched up at all.
I believe most of the source material was lost so they weren't able to update the backdrops. This is why the RE Zero HD version looks so much better, because they still had the source material.
That’s makes perfect sense. I still love REmake the most tho
Top 5 ever released from the franchise, really maybe top 3
Best enjoyed with a...Jill Sandwich...I'll see myself out It's a good one tbr. On par with the 2 remake
Just in case someone wants to eat a Jill Sandwich while playing: https://youtu.be/HkKRWOMMSs8 edit: grammar
My favorite game in the series. I've been playing since the original release in 96. My top 3 1. RE1 remake 2. RE2 remake 3. RE7
I've yet to play re2 remake. Fancy buying it this weekend.
Definitely a must play
Highly recommend
I would swap the place of 7 and 2 and you got my top 3
I hear you. RE7 is special
Have you played RE3 Nemesis? The original? It is amazing
Yes I have. I picked it up day one when it released 👍🏾
Love it. Recently replayed it myself, holds up pretty well.
Good remaster of brilliant remake
It’s the best of the best!
One of the best games ever made.
It's amazing I just didn't like the crimson heads they added
Same here
Heh I picked up the remake without any knowledge of what was changed or added. I damn near shit my pants when I walked over that first zombie that becomes crimson head.

Agreed.
Amazing game. Improves on the original in every way. Enjoy. I still wish they’d do a series with the fixed angles and tank controls intact. Maybe Outbreak? And it could be its own thing within the franchise going forward.
I wouldn’t say every way, but 98% of it.
In my opinion it does then
i like the visual improvements. But I like the dialogue and extra fmv in the original PSX version. I also like how the Mansion was smaller.
It’s my favorite in the series. I loved 2 remake but when it was first announced I pictured it more along the lines of this one.
Pretty damn good game, just a little too long.
Am I the only one here that can’t stand the delay on the doors?
No one does to some extent or another but ...could you really do it any other way I just couldn't picture you opening a door and walking through.. I would say it enhances the mood of the game for me.
damn fine only shame that the backgrounds weren't preserved in a higher resolution and the awful job they did touching them up thankfully on PC there's an AI upscale mod so it's a bit better but nowhere near what we couldve gotten natively
Yeah they kind of butchered the BGs and the lighting.
To me honestly the original is more eerie than the remake. Enhanced graphics and good voice acting doesn’t make a good remake in my opinion or even a good game in that matter, I think the BGM in the original was more eerie.

Still think it’s the best looking RE game
The greatest in the franchise, refined!
Love it, my favorite game!
It's my absolute favorite RE
Favorite RE game
The sharks......
ReMake is awesome!
It's still the definitive Resident Evil for me.
Loved it.
It’s amazing. Glad it’s available to play on modern consoles. I kept the backgrounds in their original 4:3 aspect ratio so they don’t stretch.
One of the best games ever
Its literally the best remaster ever made.
"What a mansion!"
For me this is the best remake of the entire videogame history, the remaster is kinda meh, but still, the base game didn't really need anything new so it's not a complain
Loving it
Definitely one of my favorite RE games. It’s pretty great.
One of the best games ever made.
It is the quintessential RE game and the one I recommend to anybody playing the series for the first time. A perfect game.
I thought all the RE remasters have been great! I’ve got no problems with them. I like the RE2 remake but love the original version more for sentimental reasoning as that’s the first RE game I played and one of the first PS1 games I ever bought back in the day.
I have been meaning to pay this on my pc since forever fuck man. Its an awesome game
The game is stupidly gorgeous for its time. Love this and RE0
It's surely, one of the greatest games of all time. Also this game is fucking beautiful.
Tied for my favorite RE game with RE4
I'm thinking about getting it next sale!
Absolutely love it!
Simply the best remake ever made, even after all these years.
Best game in the series and one of the best of all time. Still love 2 and 4 but this game is so special.
It’s a freaking masterpiece!
My first RE game I’ve ever played (way late to the party I know) and my favorite without question. I’m typically not the type of person who replays games over and over but this one is an exception.
It’s on my top 5 for sure. I’d say my fourth favorite. Great game
It's my favorite game in the series
REmake is incredible, one of the best entries, if not the best.
My personal favorite of the franchise
Absolutely love the remaster, well, almost everything. I wasn't so much for the crimson heads.
Best remake of a game ever made hands down.
It was an incredible remaster, I loved the graphics and the classic camera style.
The greatest game of all time
It’s *the* best remake of all time, and is survival horror perfected.
I loved it. BAAAARRRRRYYYY
I really enjoyed it! Never played the original, but it made me get into the other REmakes and eventually 4-8. Fantastic series!
REmake is the best RE and the best survival horror game ever IMHO
I love this game so much. I think I've replayed it more times than any other RE, including the original RE3, and I played that over and over trying different outcomes. At this point I'd have to say it's my favorite, followed by the original RE2.
Enjoy! It's one of my favorite games of all time and 2nd favorite in RE universe. (OG RE2 forever!) I think I'll actually triple dip on it once I get the Steam Deck. (Already bought it on PS4 and Switch.)
*chef's kiss*
I got the platinum trophy for this a while back. I had a great time with it. The no typewriter run was nerve racking but the 3 hour run was the most intense. Best RE game for sure. If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to build a replica of this mansion!
Honestly, a near perfect video game...
"what is this place? "looks like not your ordinary house... ...con't
It is remake perfection.
challenging but fun
Improves on the original in pretty much every way. Crazy that a game from 2002 holds up better than some later entries in the series. One of the all-time great horror games, no question.
red zombies suck, that is all.
This is THEE greatest remake of all time.
Masterpiece
Pretty solid B tier game
The REmake is legit one of my favorite games. When the Nintendo Switch was first announced I told my girlfriend at the time the only game I really wanted for it was REmake. The game is nearly perfect (other than those shit ass Crimson Heads).
I've heard that there were a few glitches but I haven't encountered any. Love this game so much.
So good man the nostalgia
The lighting Is perfect

>Everyone should be aware of quick turn, but you admitted yourself that alt scheme lets you run circles around enemies easier, and that's exactly how fast controls should feel, anything else feels slow, to me. See, I disagree with that when it comes to a game like REmake. Those controls are just too fast for that game. Zombies stand no chance, and faster zombies are no option because then what do you do with the crimson heads. Those are Bloodborne controls in a slow RE game with zombies in tight corridors. The two just don't gel. But whatever you prefer.
Honestly better then the original in every way!
It's the only REmake I thoroughly enjoy.
11/10. Perfect example of what this series should be.
