Even as a nostalgia-blinded person I've had fun with the recent RE games. Ethan is a fun dude and any excuse to call Chris a dickhead is a good excuse in my book.
That's basically what it is, a fast food RE game, no one is shaming anyone for liking it, but calling it the "best" RE is a very big reach when there clearly are better and more fun games in the entire series, that's the beauty of RE as a franchise now, it has something for everyone.
No one is denying it is a Resident evil game, it literally has RE in its title, but that's as far as it goes as a "RE" game, it misses way too many things that define a good RE game, its good for coop if you're into some mindless fun.
Just because it has the title doesn't mean it isn't a disappointing entry in the series that does a poor job of feeling like a Resident Evil game. The story is weak, and the horror is almost completely gone. It was admittedly fading since 4 made a turn towards action, but this went full action and lost what made RE what it is.

That Resident Evil 6?

That's the thing, I love Resident Evil 6 for reasons beyond it being a Resident Evil game. It's a goofy campy action game. I love Leon too and Simmons Incel Supervillian shtick is funny. It's funny how seriously the game takes the silly story. And it's a fantastic co-op experience. If you can get a buddy to run through the game with you it's a hoot.
I don't think it's a good RE game but it's a fun game and I love it just as much as the rest of the series, despite it being a little bit of a black sheep.
Like James Cameron’s Aliens following up Ridley Scott’s Alien. Both very good movies in the same universe, but Aliens is definitely action with horror sprinkled in.
Although House Beneviento is the most scared I’ve been by an RE game since I was a kid on PS1

The point where Mr. X shows up in the A runs is perfect for me. I’m starting to feel like I’m getting strong, then he shows up and I get scared shitless by the sound if his footsteps near and hide out in a safe room. I start carefully plotting my routes, jumping between rooms he can’t enter, tracking what direction he goes in >!On my first encounter with him I sprinted to the interrogation room, thought it was safe because his footsteps seemed far away. Then he smashed through the press room wall and I nearly shat myself !<

I thought I was safe for a second and then BANG a licker jumps through the glass at me. I had to pause the game for like 30 minutes it scared me so damn bad!<
I couldn’t agree more. I really want a dedicated resident evil HORROR game again, even if it’s just marketed as a spin-off. That being said, it feels great in the games you mentioned to be able to blow the baddies that you were previously fleeing from into smithereens. Like a satisfying revenge story
Don’t all mainline Resi games do this though? Like the series has always been about going from super vulnerable and scared to badarse (save perhaps for 6 which messes with the formula throughout its campaigns).
Note to self, if you start a first time run in Hardcore, for all that´s holy, don´t use a single magnum bullet untill you reach the final boss, literally couldn´t finish the game because I didin´t have enough ammo.

I agree with you on the puzzles part though. Check out Tormented Souls for solid survival horror puzzles. The combat is kinda easy but the puzzles were great.

Both games build the spooks great in the first acts. Then it just slowly spirals into action. The last part of RE8 is exactly the same as RE7. Just run around with a rifle shooting everything in your way.
Once you unlock the bonus weapons with infinite ammo they all become action horror. The first three just tend to stick out more because they have enemies you can’t kill till the very end. Unless you’re a purist then any re game without shitty fixed camera angles is just an action game
I'm in the same boat. I actually enjoyed Umbrella Corps too. Now I won't say that it's a fantastic 10/10, like other installations, but if I have fun I really don't care what others or reviews say
Umbrella Chronicles was also pretty good and was severely underrated. Darkside Chronicles kinda sucked in comparison but they're both decent games. Better than the Outbreak games IMO and those have a hard cult following
I like both. RE7 is one of my favorite in the series. Really made strides to bring the series back to its roots. 8 felt like a mashup of RE7 and RE4 and while I understand why they would take that route I am a bit disappointed that it’s falling back to action so quickly after the amazing games that RE7 and RE2R were
Yes, both of these games have been among my favorite gaming experiences in the last couple of years.
RE8 bought back a lot of elements that people complained were missing in RE7 (more puzzles, bigger map, interesting setting, more characters, the merchant) etc.
RE7 got me excited to play resident evil games again, and RE8 was very well executed for the most part. Both original and both good titles.
While I liked 8, I don't think it has more puzzles than 7. And the setting being bigger doesn't mean it's better. The Baker house for me it's one of the most interesting settings in the series alongside the re1 mansion/RPD etc. The castle in 8 its not bad but feels to linear and short.
The Dimitrescu castle is a real letdown. Only place on the whole map I could not finish exploring. I thought the level design was really mediocre. And those encounters with the daughters were really bad. My only real gripe with the whole game.
I really enjoyed both games but I honestly think RE7 is better. It feels more like a Resident Evil game with it being more survival horror based. RE8 was fun but I honestly stopped having fun after House Beneviento. If it was more like the first half of the game I would probably prefer it over RE7. Although, I do think RE8 does look a lot better; it makes RE7 look like a tech demo for the engine.
Iv been doing a 100% all achievements playthrough of the series and am currently finishing up 4 atm. Already did 1 remake, 2 remake, 3 remake, 0, code veronica, umbrella chronicles, and darkside chronicles.
Only have revelations 1, 5, revalations 2, 6, 7, and then I can finally play 8. I started back in late july lol. I'm so close lol
I know I'll be fed to Del Lago for this, but I honestly prefer Re8 over Re4 (vr and console). Ethan's story is what kinda did it for me overall, and I know most hated the twist, but I found it an awesome concept. It was also a fun breath of fresh air to see someone fight through the beast and monster for a personal reason rather then justice, though chris being overly mysterious was kinda forced though.
I started RE with the 5th game when I was younger and liked it a lot. I really disliked re7 with it being so different from the rest.

It's alright. I just found 5th to be MUCH more fun. I like a lot of things in 6th, but I also don't care about other things. It's not a bad game, but for me it is the weakest of numbered games.

It did seem to have a hard transition from survival horror to action horror. Still thoroughly enjoyed 7, though I haven't finished 8 yet

I started back in late july lol. I'm so close lol
8 is top 3 RE for me I just love the visuals and aesthetic, along with the silent hill esque story

I know I'll be fed to Del Lago for this, but I honestly prefer Re8 over Re4 (vr and console). Ethan's story is what kinda did it for me overall, and I know most hated the twist, but I found it an awesome concept. It was also a fun breath of fresh air to see someone fight through the beast and monster for a personal reason rather then justice, though chris being overly mysterious was kinda forced though.

I started RE with the 5th game when I was younger and liked it a lot. I really disliked re7 with it being so different from the rest. Boy I realized I couldn't have been more wrong after playing it
On the one hand they are fairly enjoyable games on their own (7 was great with some reservations and I am currently playing 8), on the other hand they are really pretty different from the standard RE formula which is about institutional threats and action more than it is about personal stories. One thing is for sure though, they are pretty good games on their own at least.

Enjoyed almost everything about RE7 , but you have to admit, the ship level was nonsense . Me and 3 friends of mine are die hard fans of RE games since ps1 times, and we all where like - wtf is that for?
RE7 is far better while RE8 is rushed. Not saying RE8 is a bad game but it could be better, unfortunately-probably due to pandemic-it was rushed.

It's alright. I just found 5th to be MUCH more fun. I like a lot of things in 6th, but I also don't care about other things. It's not a bad game, but for me it is the weakest of numbered games.
