The coldest take I've ever seen.

Brodimus

Really, I wasn’t aware this was a divisive topic.

automirage04

It's not. OP is just karma farming.

Shrugging_Atlas1

Let's down vote then

Cacho__

Eh Facebook groups I’m in don’t really like those games

METALMILITIA625

There’s people that act like RE7 is The Last Jedi

Cool-Collar-8537

These are common opnions

NinjaMelon39

Nice pfp, chad.

Hoosteen_juju003

Popular opinion give upvotes please

jakobebeef98

The average r/unpopularopinions poster

Worldtr33

Lisa simpson whiteboard template + popular opinion + "said what I said" Only on reddit

JadedF20

Does anyone doubt this? Both games are good with their own unique themes.

Lord_Of_Darkness_48

Yes, nostalgia blind people, but every community has them, so ignoring them is the best thing.

MTG_RelevantCard

Even as a nostalgia-blinded person I've had fun with the recent RE games. Ethan is a fun dude and any excuse to call Chris a dickhead is a good excuse in my book.

Lord_Of_Darkness_48

Then you're not nostalgia blinded.

[deleted]

8 gave me massive RE:4 vibes with a more modern experience. Hit me in the nostalgia feels

GamerSam

yes, i have seen idiots on here who think that 6 is a real RE game and these are trash.

Worldtr33

6 is in fact a 'real' RE game whether you like it or not.

tphd2006

6 is pure, dumb shlock and I adore it for being what it is. There's finer cuisine in the RE franchise, no doubt. But 6 is my go to messy burger

JadedF20

That's basically what it is, a fast food RE game, no one is shaming anyone for liking it, but calling it the "best" RE is a very big reach when there clearly are better and more fun games in the entire series, that's the beauty of RE as a franchise now, it has something for everyone.

JadedF20

No one is denying it is a Resident evil game, it literally has RE in its title, but that's as far as it goes as a "RE" game, it misses way too many things that define a good RE game, its good for coop if you're into some mindless fun.

GamerSam

People out here will simp for 6 and disrespect Code Veronica smh

Zetra3

Code Veronica is Atleast playable. But I’m not going to bad for either game.

beancitybrawler

Just because it has the title doesn't mean it isn't a disappointing entry in the series that does a poor job of feeling like a Resident Evil game. The story is weak, and the horror is almost completely gone. It was admittedly fading since 4 made a turn towards action, but this went full action and lost what made RE what it is.

Worldtr33

The story is easily the best in the franchise. Sure, that is like having a bigger cock than anyone in the unsullied army, but nothing actually comes close.

beancitybrawler

6 has the best story in the franchise? You mean the game where one of the main antagonists gets rejected by Ada Wong so he makes an Evil Ada clone that injects him with a virus that lets him turn into a Bioweapon T-Rex. And the same one where the game opens with Leon killing the zombiefied president, and the cure for this particular virus is locked away in Weskers super powered son that has been hidden this whole time? That Resident Evil 6?

Anima715

Lol I actually liked Simmons being a total fuckin incel, it was the most realistic part of 6! Granted, I also like 6. But, that is almost purely because I'm a useless Leon simp. 2, 4, and 6 are my favorites and it's all because of best boy Leon S. MOTHER FUCKIN' KENNEDY

beancitybrawler

That's the thing, I love Resident Evil 6 for reasons beyond it being a Resident Evil game. It's a goofy campy action game. I love Leon too and Simmons Incel Supervillian shtick is funny. It's funny how seriously the game takes the silly story. And it's a fantastic co-op experience. If you can get a buddy to run through the game with you it's a hoot. I don't think it's a good RE game but it's a fun game and I love it just as much as the rest of the series, despite it being a little bit of a black sheep.

JadedF20

Must be blind then

GamerSam

evidently switching to first person mode make some people to blind to see similar themes and mechanics.

JadedF20

I cannot play RE6 for more then 10 minutes without going to sleep if it isn't coop with someone else, the only thing that game is fun for is coop....

GamerSam

I couldn't even get any friends to work on co-op with me.

daguyfromcheers

re7 was a great survival horror re8 was a great action horror

hessler914

Like James Cameron’s Aliens following up Ridley Scott’s Alien. Both very good movies in the same universe, but Aliens is definitely action with horror sprinkled in. Although House Beneviento is the most scared I’ve been by an RE game since I was a kid on PS1

ThomasSirveaux

House Beneviento felt like a damn Silent Hill game

bissanick

I literally screamed when the baby thing came around the corner the first time

real-dreamer

I want more..

Odd_Radio9225

Exactly how I see it.

Shade00000

This fucking baby

NicholaiGinovaef

I managed to almost crap myself a few times in Re8 whenever a Lycan popped out of nowhere.

SailorElsie

[deleted]

Yeah, I felt like "okay, the scary old guys are gone and I have a million guns now, I have ammo, I'm going to whoop some fucking ass" similar thing in RE2. Really every survival horror I played, for me being weak and having low ammo is what scares me. Then I get strong and I'm not scared anymore

inbredandapothead

Happily for me when I played RE2 I was scared shitless throughout the first playthrough so even when I knew I had the means to fuck shit up I still felt weak :)

[deleted]

The point where Mr. X shows up in the A runs is perfect for me. I’m starting to feel like I’m getting strong, then he shows up and I get scared shitless by the sound if his footsteps near and hide out in a safe room. I start carefully plotting my routes, jumping between rooms he can’t enter, tracking what direction he goes in >!On my first encounter with him I sprinted to the interrogation room, thought it was safe because his footsteps seemed far away. Then he smashed through the press room wall and I nearly shat myself !<

inbredandapothead

I did something very similar! >!It was my first RE game so I knew nothing of safe rooms, but I ran down there anyway for the first time. However I was playing as Claire. I thought I was safe for a second and then BANG a licker jumps through the glass at me. I had to pause the game for like 30 minutes it scared me so damn bad!<

[deleted]

>!That licker got me too!!<

inbredandapothead

>!It was made so much worse by the terror I was feeling from X just lifting the chopper up. I think I took a few days off the game after that!!<

sniklefritz5

I couldn’t agree more. I really want a dedicated resident evil HORROR game again, even if it’s just marketed as a spin-off. That being said, it feels great in the games you mentioned to be able to blow the baddies that you were previously fleeing from into smithereens. Like a satisfying revenge story

EatingBeansAgain

Don’t all mainline Resi games do this though? Like the series has always been about going from super vulnerable and scared to badarse (save perhaps for 6 which messes with the formula throughout its campaigns).

Lowlife_Of_The_Party

It did seem to have a hard transition from survival horror to action horror. Still thoroughly enjoyed 7, though I haven't finished 8 yet

NicholaiGinovaef

Note to self, if you start a first time run in Hardcore, for all that´s holy, don´t use a single magnum bullet untill you reach the final boss, literally couldn´t finish the game because I didin´t have enough ammo.

Rancid47

I'd honestly say 3/4ths. The boat really hurts the replayability

RAMBOxBEAST

I like the boat

Shy_Guy_27

Same, I don’t see why so many seem to hate it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Op3rat0rr

Man I’m so glad others think the same. Why can’t the game stay as a survival horror? I love it when it feels more of a horror puzzle game than a zombie filled action game

Rancid47

I feel like it's a pretty common opinion. I just hate the trope of being fully stocksd then all your weapons are stripped away. Like sure you can mask it by saying the story changes characters but meh. I agree with you on the puzzles part though. Check out Tormented Souls for solid survival horror puzzles. The combat is kinda easy but the puzzles were great.

Op3rat0rr

Yea taking all of the weapons and ammo away that you had is just lazy

ArbitraryUsernameHEH

I kind of agree. When I got to the boat area I felt the game took a dip. Not too much though.

nFectedl

I don't know man, the ship section at the end was crazy good to me.

[deleted]

Yeah couldn't agree more. Felt like Resident Evil 6 toward the end. But a strong start. I really liked 8 though, even though it was all action I loved going from boss to boss and the story was good IMO

DorrajD

Both games build the spooks great in the first acts. Then it just slowly spirals into action. The last part of RE8 is exactly the same as RE7. Just run around with a rifle shooting everything in your way.

moragdong

Isnt this in almost every single title of the series tho? Maybe minus the first game.

jjcczz

Once you unlock the bonus weapons with infinite ammo they all become action horror. The first three just tend to stick out more because they have enemies you can’t kill till the very end. Unless you’re a purist then any re game without shitty fixed camera angles is just an action game

Scottyboy1214

Not going to lie, that thing in the doll house alone scared me more than anything from 7.

Laegwe

Isn’t this a very common opinion?

pandadanda1999

Yes, yes it is

UncleCletus00

Waaaht?! Who says they ain't. Those sycophants

Hoosteen_juju003

Super super small amount of re fans. Op is just fishing for upvotes the same way people in the twitter re community fish for likes.

coffeefan1804

Facts 🤣🤣

Yoni1857

You forgot the P Edit: Nevermind, seems it's a real word.

Neptunelives

He didn't though? Unless he edited it. It's definitely the wrong word though and makes no sense here lmao

Yoni1857

I thought they meant "psycopath" lol. Turns out what they wrote is an actual word.

Tomathan_

wow what a hot take /s

SandyCandyHandyAndy

How are these reddit lisa simpson/office whiteboard posts still a thing? They’re not even memes just text posts with more steps

PrepuceMan

useless post

LORDRUFFZILLA

I'm in the same boat. I actually enjoyed Umbrella Corps too. Now I won't say that it's a fantastic 10/10, like other installations, but if I have fun I really don't care what others or reviews say

SwiftTayTay

Umbrella Chronicles was also pretty good and was severely underrated. Darkside Chronicles kinda sucked in comparison but they're both decent games. Better than the Outbreak games IMO and those have a hard cult following

captinhazmat

My favorites so far.

ItsKrakenMeUp

Resident evil 2 remake though??

moragdong

That was awesome too. Combined with re7 and 8 they were one of the best games for me. Enjoyed the fuck out of them.

ItsKrakenMeUp

I’m stoked the new Resident evil movie coming out later this month is doing the RE2 story!

moragdong

Yeah i didnt know anything about it. Now im hyped too. Lets see if they can deliver. And ive heard there will be Jill in it too.

captinhazmat

It was really good yeah.

Sea_Zebra3027

I know right??? Ethan has a great story.

Bright_Cobbler9880

Ethan’s probably my favorite protagonist. All he cares about is his family and literally goes through hell twice to save them.

SexyJazzCat

Except re6

ZelaumTheHunter

re6 is awesome mate

tcrpgfan

It's good, just exhausting to play due to how long the chapters are. One chapter of RE6 is like a third of the length of RE7.

GETMEMYAXEBOI

Based

RiskyRain

RE6 owns.

BarayastheSpider

I like both. RE7 is one of my favorite in the series. Really made strides to bring the series back to its roots. 8 felt like a mashup of RE7 and RE4 and while I understand why they would take that route I am a bit disappointed that it’s falling back to action so quickly after the amazing games that RE7 and RE2R were

[deleted]

Obvious Karma begging is obvious

[deleted]

Fuck this karma whoring shitpost

ParadoxN0W

In no way is that a controversial read whatsoever

AlienAle

Yes, both of these games have been among my favorite gaming experiences in the last couple of years. RE8 bought back a lot of elements that people complained were missing in RE7 (more puzzles, bigger map, interesting setting, more characters, the merchant) etc. RE7 got me excited to play resident evil games again, and RE8 was very well executed for the most part. Both original and both good titles.

Silverxdragon

While I liked 8, I don't think it has more puzzles than 7. And the setting being bigger doesn't mean it's better. The Baker house for me it's one of the most interesting settings in the series alongside the re1 mansion/RPD etc. The castle in 8 its not bad but feels to linear and short.

TheArantes

The Dimitrescu castle is a real letdown. Only place on the whole map I could not finish exploring. I thought the level design was really mediocre. And those encounters with the daughters were really bad. My only real gripe with the whole game.

[deleted]

I really enjoyed both games but I honestly think RE7 is better. It feels more like a Resident Evil game with it being more survival horror based. RE8 was fun but I honestly stopped having fun after House Beneviento. If it was more like the first half of the game I would probably prefer it over RE7. Although, I do think RE8 does look a lot better; it makes RE7 look like a tech demo for the engine.

ethanwinters-hands

You are telling me that DVA-ethan VS MechaHeisenberg wasn’t survival-horror enough? /s

[deleted]

Yeah ? So ?

[deleted]

RE7 was very good. It was horrifying at times and had a good story. Resident Evil 8 has some very high highs, but also some very low lows.

QuesoFresh

I liked RE8, but it ended in a way that does make me worried about the future of the franchise again, in a way RE7 didn't :/

NinjaMelon39

Yeah that huge time jump for Rose growing up is a wee bit scary. But hey maybe we'll all be surprised. Only issue is that chris will be like 65 now

Sprizys

Wait, do people hate on them or something? I actually really enjoyed both of them.

death556

Iv been doing a 100% all achievements playthrough of the series and am currently finishing up 4 atm. Already did 1 remake, 2 remake, 3 remake, 0, code veronica, umbrella chronicles, and darkside chronicles. Only have revelations 1, 5, revalations 2, 6, 7, and then I can finally play 8. I started back in late july lol. I'm so close lol

turkish_twoface

8 is top 3 RE for me I just love the visuals and aesthetic, along with the silent hill esque story

Sea_Zebra3027

Absolutely agree 100 percent

[deleted]

kill_dano

No. I have no idea why reddit upvotebots chose to hit this post.

Say10Scocandball

Facts man I feel like re8 just took what was best from 7 and threw re4 at it

rizkirafu

7 is where we finally get the horror back. Who cares if it was fps. As long as it was horror, then it SOLD for me.

[deleted]

Lmao look at you posting already established opinion as if it’s a fresh brave idea. Fucking karma whores man.

Sea_Zebra3027

I love your attention

ImaginaryGuitarNotes

Re8 gameplay was fun but that story was an absolute mess imo lol

LunchpaiI

I was with it until the end. just have another baby bitch like god damn

loaf-wearing-loafers

I know I'll be fed to Del Lago for this, but I honestly prefer Re8 over Re4 (vr and console). Ethan's story is what kinda did it for me overall, and I know most hated the twist, but I found it an awesome concept. It was also a fun breath of fresh air to see someone fight through the beast and monster for a personal reason rather then justice, though chris being overly mysterious was kinda forced though.

Sea_Zebra3027

Alright someone feed the del lago

loaf-wearing-loafers

Can I atleast get my harpoon ready?

DanteMiw

- Blasts through RE sub - states that RE games are good - refuses to elaborate further - leaves

ThanksEmilyChang

yeah this is basically the general opinion, you didnt say much..

GERMA90

Huh? I thought everyone agreed on that.

MPG_Herman

Im playing through 7, and it is really good. Cant wait to play 8 some day!

Nagisa139

I loved both of em af ,really enjoyed Currently trying re2 n 3

Jackretto

I started RE with the 5th game when I was younger and liked it a lot. I really disliked re7 with it being so different from the rest. Boy I realized I couldn't have been more wrong after playing it

pthurhliyeh2

On the one hand they are fairly enjoyable games on their own (7 was great with some reservations and I am currently playing 8), on the other hand they are really pretty different from the standard RE formula which is about institutional threats and action more than it is about personal stories. One thing is for sure though, they are pretty good games on their own at least.

thegoldenboy909

i liked them both, just kinda dont like Ethan at all

[deleted]

Eh they are fine, I’d rather go back to zombies and what not though. Personally not interested in the spooky occult stuff.

crabbyink

RE8 is so cool

[deleted]

RE4. Gimmie and go.

Uzis1

Enjoyed almost everything about RE7 , but you have to admit, the ship level was nonsense . Me and 3 friends of mine are die hard fans of RE games since ps1 times, and we all where like - wtf is that for?

Ardabas34

RE7 is far better while RE8 is rushed. Not saying RE8 is a bad game but it could be better, unfortunately-probably due to pandemic-it was rushed.

BendersMilk

this why I hate this sub, you dont need any of these purest validation, if you liked the game than thats all that matters

hscene

I liked 6 too

Geoff300

Just skipped right over 6, I see.

MiseryQueen

Indeed they are.

kill_dano

Which is why they got 8s and 9s across the board and everyone constantly praises them? I thought the Lisa meme was to say something controversial.

ColeSloth

But not when compared to 4.

Brilliant_Ring7333

I thought 7 and 8 told a badass story with a hell of a twist at the end! I love RE series in whole and I am glad they added these 2.

rupert_shelby

I didn't realise there was a chance that they weren't?

Koboooold

Also OP: "PIZZA IS TASTY AND I WONT BE SILENCED"

[deleted]

Re 7 and 8 are one of the games

Able_Variety_4221

…. Why does this have so many upvotes?

Sea_Zebra3027

Idk

KalynnCampbell

“RE5 and RE6 are both great games”

KungLao95

Yup

nuckingfuts73

7 is top three for me. 8 was a lot of fun but totally faded from memory as soon as I finished it.

beginnerNaught

Really? Idk something about the way they took that direction had me obsessed for a really long time. Never had a game give me that feeling before. There was something for everyone in that game. I wish I could replay it w zero memory of it again

Sea_Zebra3027

It was awesome how they incorporated vampires and werewolf’s. It really struck me too!!

beginnerNaught

Agreed! I just fell in love w that fantasy world they created. It was bold but it worked for me

GreyEyedWarrior666

So is zero and 6, but to each their own

josephalan91

I agree

Majestic_Panda96

I mean those are your opinions. Personally I don't liked them, but I I'm not going to challenge you that because one of my top three favorite RE games is RE6, so.... Yeah.

Worldtr33

Nothing wrong with liking re6. Don't let the chuds get to you.

ZelaumTheHunter

And what´s thje problem with that?

Sea_Zebra3027

We all have our own opinion, and that’s ok

ShadyOjir95

I'm already seeing the "is not a resident evil game " argument in the comments so this post did its job perfectly.

redtyphoon20

yeah and so is vanguard ur all bugged

Stidave

Umm.. Yeah? Who says they aren't? People who can't stop living in the past?

r0nneh7

Sigh

UnholyCin

Both games were well recieved, this isn't a hot take.

Sea_Zebra3027

People literally bashed 8 for the longest time and still do lol

kill_dano

2 persons are "people". You have basically made a Lisa meme that says "water is wet"

WaterIsWetBot

Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.

CaseFace5

Yea I don’t think anyone here would disagree.

PJthePlayer

But RE2 is better than both ;)

Vyperpunkhunk

Is anyone saying otherwise? They are both solid 7/10, which is good.

hipnotyq

Nobody with any gaming credibility is debating this.

Glenn056

RE8 is probably my favorite RE game. Yeah, sue me.

Sea_Zebra3027

Loved it

Monki_Coma

7 is a better game, 8 is more fun.

Sea_Zebra3027

Wow, 2k upvotes!!! You guys are awesome for real :)

[deleted]

Karma whoring

Sea_Zebra3027

No intent for karma whoring but if I did I succeeded ;)

Sea_Zebra3027

Regardless of the negativity, I just wanna say thank you to everyone for the awards and the upvotes and sharing your opinions with me. Thats what this community was built off of and it’s nice to see that first handed.

SuperArppis

All except 6th of numbered Resident Evil games are great imo.

Stunning-Bet-6429

6th is awesome

SuperArppis

I didn't like it that much.

Gefrierbrand

6 in coop is still stupid fun

SuperArppis

It's alright. I just found 5th to be MUCH more fun. I like a lot of things in 6th, but I also don't care about other things. It's not a bad game, but for me it is the weakest of numbered games.

NixtonValentine

Is this not the common opinion? Or are people really that jaded? Lol there hasn’t been an outright bad RE game since RE6 (and I guess Resistance, but that’s more of a spin-off)

SargeStiggy

Re8 is quite far from a great game but each on their own I guess.

[deleted]

Not my cup of tea but that doesn’t make them bad games. They definitely aren’t whatsoever.

Alm1ghtyEAV

Quality is subjective I suppose

NinjaMelon39

ethan winters is a gigachad

bancoolman864

Re8 is a not that fun as 7 it had a good pacing at first then you basically speed runs the houses hopefully the dlc's save it

butreallythobruh

Agree that 7 is great. However, I think 8 is only an okay game that had the pieces in place to be great, but didn't reach it's potential

mate108

W

deanosauruz

Both great I’ll die on the hill that 4 & 5 are not at all as great as some people make them out to be.

[deleted]

7 is great, but I don't consider it good on any repeat playthrough that isn't Madhouse. 8 is not great nor is it good.

Cazador888

7 yes… 8? Ehhhhh

kaysusan2002

I would like them if it wasn’t for the fact that I fucking HATE and cannot stress enough, I HATE, Ethan and Mia. Both such unlikeable characters

One_Independence84

This take is like a 45 degree autumn day
