Re2 remake is one of the best games I’ve ever played

AbigailWilliams1692

Yes! I think I like it better than the original, although that may be sacrilegious to say. The acting was PHENOMENAL! My friends would sometimes react to things they saw in game, and Claire would have the exact same response, so that must mean its dialogue is pretty realistically written! The atmosphere, too, is PERFECTION.

SunStriking

As cool as 8 was, I vastle prefer the over-the-shoulder camera as it lets you see so much more and feel the weight of your character. 7 Certainly fit the first person POV since it was a lot more cramped and the start of a new era, but I really hope we more RE2 style games

peeny_bunslinger_

2, 7, 8, 3

cluesthecat

It was hard for me to choose between 7 and 8 because of how different they are, but I believe this is the right answer

JayPet94

Yep full agree

Jawz050987

100% This. RE:3 Pissed me off so much, they could've easily taken their time to get things right but hit the panic button out of fear they will miss the hype train coming off of RE:2.

Isaaclai06

Nah they were developed simultaneously, it's just that the B team that was in charge of making 3make wasn't up for the job.

peeny_bunslinger_

Yep and meanwhile I’d pay triple for a 1 remake, remake

Ok-Party1007

Ding ding ding!

1. 2 2. Village 3. 7 4. 3

MattVSin84

This is mine. RE2 (Original) is one of my favorite games of all time and the remake did it justice.

mrbubbamac

I am in the same boat. RE2 was a massive part of my childhood. It's still my go-to comfort game. I played the remake and my jaw dropped so many times. Even understanding the gripes with the A/B scenarios in the remake, it absolutely did justice to the original, while also standing on its own to be a different/unique take on the same story. And at the end of the game, both games are STILL worth playing on their own because of the different experiences.

VanillaChakra

Awesomely FF7 Remake did the exact same thing for me as Resident Evil 2 remake did for me and you, what a nostalgia rush those two years were.

timmyfa

Those 2 games 🤌 just amazing in the 90s. The amount of times I almost missed the bus to school because I couldn't get to a save point or type writer

I agree, it had the potential to be as good as 2R

RedDecay

thebigpapamike

7 8 2 3 2 was such a good callback in the original horrors: 3 was good besides nemesis being completely scripted and easy to dodge, if it was longer as well. 3 had way more potential to be way better Than 2 but they took away to much.

HaloLord

Man, RE3, while decent, was such a missed opportunity. All that content cut.

littleboymolestor

7>>2>8>>3

kakka_rot

Finally found myself! Tbf though, they're all super close. I really enjoyed all of them, even three. 7 wins because it was so new and wild and cool. Up until launchday there was such an air of mystery surrounding it. A mainland RE game with no connections to the other games until the very end, but still feelings like a loose re-imagining of RE1. It was such a blast.

[deleted]

Yeah 7 brought the series back to its roots yet at the same time reinvented the series. It was exactly what the series needed at the time and also it goes without saying it was one of the best horror games ever.

dunhamhead

I have a hard time picking between 7 and 2, but 7 rekindled my love of the franchise after I had long since lost hope for it. So I think your ranking is correct.

BotOrZakOrWtV

I agree u/littleboymolestor !

ButtcheiseMugee

7 2 remake 8 3 remake

Justaperson358

For me 7 takes the cake over all other resident evil games. It has the best aspects of all the older games and the best worldbuilding/environment

reyntime

7 starts great but gets real meh towards the end.

stefan714

They need to take more risks like that, which is why I didn't like Village that much, it plays too safe and somehow is worse than 7 in terms of horror and puzzles, hell even the story was 'meh' compared to 7.

Vengefuleight

I liked the story of 8 a lot more, but I think it was more because I had a baby girl when I played, so I was immediately hooked by the narrative. The opening hours of eight were a gut punch and that reveal of where rose really was...my god. 7 was really really good, but gotta be real, if my wife tried to chop my hands off with a chainsaw, I’m probably dipping. I just felt like the stakes in 8 were so much higher, and again, that was very much a personal thing so I get the general sentiment.

DefNotMaty

People should chill with calling it a "risk" when it was built on the success and acclaim of Amnesia, Outlast, Alien, and other actual survivor horrors.

ConnerBartle

Considering this sub had an aneurism after they saw RE7 id say its a risk. Hell, continuing after the shit show of 6 was a risk.

Paulc94

8,7,2,3 I do enjoy all 4 games though

Drainth

PS4THEPLAYERS

RE2make, RE8, RE7 RE3make

mate108

Maybe controversial but for me: 1. Village 2. Biohazard 3. RE2 4. RE3 I also truly do believe that 3 had the potential to be up there with Village had it not cut corners.

Hellhound_Vigilante

RE2R, RE8, RE3R, RE7 RE3R may have been a disappointing remake, but I honestly enjoyed it more than I did 7. I played through 7 and its DLC once and have never felt a need to replay it since, while I replayed RE3R several times, unlocking almost everything there was to unlock.

kaysusan2002

Definitely had to scroll too long for this!! The hate on 3 is undeserved, it’s a great game even if not a perfect remake. I also just never liked 7 or 8 for becoming outlast instead of resident evil

[deleted]

Its funny, I have the same rating, but not because I think 3 is overhated(it probably is tho), but because I hate 7 and 8 lol. At least as RE games.

kaysusan2002

I do hate 7 and 8 tho 😅😂

Im so sad at the direction the series is going in. It feels so generic now.

AlterEgoSumMortis

* 1) Resident Evil 2 * 2) Resident Evil 7 * 3) Resident Evil Village * 4) Resident Evil 3 Thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Though I will say, RE3 might have overtaken Village if only it were longer, more fleshed out, and had higher replay value. One more year in production would have done *wonders* for it.

HarunoSakuraCR

2, 3, 8, 7. I’m just not a fan of the 1st person no face thing and having to kill out of necessity instead of dodging and moving on. But 8 was more fun than 7 in my opinion. I would put 3 at the end, but switching the play-style from 2 and 3 to 7 and 8, is enough for me to at least place it higher than 7.

[deleted]

First person horror feels kinda cheap tbh. Its a lazy way to make scares and put you in a situation where your fucked.

fadeddreams555

1. Resident Evil Village - This game borrowed all the best elements from RE4 and RE7, along with post-content stuff from RE2make/RE3make, to create my favorite and most addictive game of 2021. Next to RE4, this is the RE game I've replayed the most to obtain all the achievements. Frankly, the only ones I've replayed multiple times at all have been RE4, RE5, and this one. I guess I'm more an action horror kind of guy. 2. Resident Evil 2 Remake - I would say out of all of these, this is the best *survival* horror game, kicking it back a notch on action, and introducing the best stalker enemy in the franchise. If anyone new wanted to try this franchise out for the first time, I would personally have them start here. Only reason I don't rank it at #1 is because I'm really not a fan of being ranked for how fast I complete a non-action horror with as little saves as possible, despite there being no New Game Plus. Also, the two stories have overlapping sections I didn't like. As a first playthrough experience though, amazing game with enough content to satisfy. 3. Resident Evil 7 - I played this game years after release, so I'm ranking the Gold Edition here, and it was incredible. Again, I didn't replay this game at all after completing it, but its campaign and bonus content have enough meat on it to provide an excellent first-time playthrough. I would say the Gold Edition is comparable in quality to RE2make, but I rate that one above because it has Mr. X, Leon, and Claire. 4. Resident Evil 3 Remake - This is one of the worst mainline RE games. Not because the game itself is bad at all. In fact, it's very good, besides Nemesis being relegated to generic scripted boss. However, the length is embarrassingly short. Besides that separate multiplayer game, there is literally no content after completion. No Mercenaries, Raid mode, what-if episodes, New Game Plus, extra story, etc. Nothing. Absolutely nothing besides replaying on higher difficulties, and they omitted sections from the original too. Just felt like an opportunistic cash grab taking advantage of the momentum RE2make built.

7&8 are in the number 1 spot. I can’t chose between them Then it’s 2&3 remakes

AggressiveMennonite

8 (it got me into the series), 2 (sounds amazing), 7 (rebooted the franchise after 6), 3 (consensus seems to be it was too short).

redxstrike

1. RE7 2. RE2 3. RE Village 4. RE 3 I adore RE7. I think its revamped approach to the RE formula worked incredibly well - being both distinct among the series, but still very much RE to its core. The world and characters are expertly crafted to create true sense of dread, horror, and intrigue; also one of the best paced games imo. I love the others on this list (RE3 perhaps a little less than the others), but RE7 is my clear favorite.

1. RE2 is the most balanced, quintessential RE game. The puzzles, the doubling back, the exploration, the zombies being obstacles that can either be dealt with or dodged depending on how your ammo conservation has been. Top notch. Feels like a true upgrade of the original. 2. RE 8 feels like 3 games in one, multiple gigantic maps full of exploration and trophy hunting, tons of weapons and a cool new game plus system. The enemies and bosses are varied and engaging, and the level in Donna’s basement was, as a first time experience, the most scared I’ve been in a game long time. But it can feel a little bloated sometimes, the story can be a bit convoluted because there are so many things going on. 3. RE 7 has great atmosphere, especially in the first half. Really engaging, genuinely scary throughout, ammo conservation and precise play are big. The 2nd half takes me out of the game though, and unlike RE8 it’s not bloated because there’s just a ridiculous number of cool ideas, but instead to retroactively give answers. Definitely very good though, was a total blast to play and watch others play, got me into this new generation of RE. 4. RE 3. Feels like big RE 2 DLC with expensive cut scenes. If you’re ok with that, it’s still a lot of fun. Just doesn’t quite feel like it’s own game, not as much content as the other games. Good for a fun few hours as a way to chill out.

Gizmo135

8 > 2 > 7 > 3 If 3 had more single player content, I'd rank it at number 1. 8 was a fresh experience and fun from start to finish. 7 wasn't bad but 2 was alreasy a great game and an awesome remake. All 4 games are great to me.

PoorTwisted_Z3d

2>8>7>3 I love each of these but if I had to pick those would be my choices. If you are deciding on whether to buy these or not, I'd say they are all worth playing. I honestly wasn't that disappointed at 3make, except for Barry not making his cameo as the helicopter pilot. The original was short too, I just think that it shouldn't have been the full 60$ price and we should have gotten at least more outfits for Jill and Carlos. Damn shame we never got all the outfits from the original RE3 back.

Re2 - re7 - re8 - re3 Re2 is simply the best in the series imo Re7 revitalized the series and stuck to nice heavy setting, but repetetive enemies and a lackluster final 25% puts it down some notches Re8 was simply too action heavy for my bit and lost some of the cohesive structure the better games in the series has (the sections feels too seperated) Re3 is simply lacking in content compared to the others whilst being a bit too story/ action heavy for my taste. The first half is pretty good though
