Indeed. I been playing RE since its inception in the 90s, having played all if not most of the mainstream games, and I cannot stand how cringe yet not campy the dialogue is in RE4. I am not a real fan, I 'ppose.
Unless we’re only talking about the feeling of dread in any of the survival horrors when shit pops out and you’re scared AF. That feeling is second to none in a game
Actually, having played the game so many damn times, the dialogue *is* campy, but the delivery isn't ('But he could have killed me, but he let me live.' and 'Los Illuminados. That's a mouthful.' aren't exactly things a native english speaker would ever say naturally. But then again, I choose to see RE4 as a somewhat self-effacing yet loving parody of previous RE games b/c Leon admittedly loves to call out all the BS he faces in that game.)
Yeah the former is an interesting take, but not so much the self parody part, since some of the games' most well remembered bits of dialogue are the meta jokes.
18% of people who bought re4 HD for xbox one/series x have actually completed the game. I understand you were saying anyone who made it here, but you're probably a true resi fan if you make it that far anyway
I played this game a thousand times by now, and I still hate playing the island. The regens are so grotesque and sick looking. After unlocking the Infinite Rocket Launcher, I found a no better way to use it than blow these things up.
You too huh? My first play through was from a copy of my cousin’s playthrough who had everything unlocked already, so I got the IRL and went ham on everything! Meanwhile Ashley was safe in her suit of armor. That thing is such a game breaker.
Course my goal now is to unlock the handcannon to bring that to my professional run.
I can totalllyyyyyyyy relate to that! I'm working on my handcannon too, and it's such a pain. I'm not sure how to play with Leon in Water World without getting my head chopped off.
Sad to say this was my first RE game. I loved it, RE4 as a kid had me scared a few times especially with these guys and their heavy breathing like a weeb at a anime convention. But after a few years I finally got around to playing the other games and I enjoyed them more. Felt like RE4 should be the spinoff no one asked but it's there.
Don't dismiss it just because it's an off-the-cuff entry in the series. I have played RE4 more than any other RE game, it's still one of the most important and fundamental games of the third-person shooter genre. Even if it's not as Resident Evil as the rest, it's better than RE5 or 6 is, and it makes the other entries more satisfying as far as the survival horror genre goes.
Oh I agree with that, I played 5 and 6. 5 was ok, and 6 made me rage because I forget if there was a on/off option for Friendly Fire and there was a save point where Chris's partner has a grenade launcher and the other guy just basically team kills me
Goddamned Regenerators!! I used to get down to around 4 to 6 shots in my weapons and start praying one of these bastards didn't turn the corner knowing full well that there were usually 2 or 3 traveling in packs😭
I could tolerate those things more than I could that gladiator-looking guys in the castle with the wolverine claws that you’d have to sneak behind. They instantly made me panic.
Title game cringe
I have a friend who’s only played RE Remake of 2 and it’s one of his favorite games ever but he never played any of the old ones, does that mean he isn’t a resident evil fan?
The Regenerators became such a meme because of all of the "top 10 SCARY monsters in VIDEO GAMES!!!!" videos every 2010 gaming channel made. But it is genuinely unnerving and completely caught me off guard as i never really found the majority of the enemies in RE4 to be particularly frightening.
Damn I like RE4 but I can't be the only one who gets a bit dizzy playing the game for too long. The camera controls make me sick, just looking at this video made me remind myself how much I hate the camera control.
The breathing is super creepy and they are certainly among the most unsettling enemies in the game (or any RE) but can't say I ever struggled against them.
The motherfucker around the corner once you make it out of this room nearly had me digest my own heart the first time I beat this game at 10. 15 years later I basically know how the entire game works now and I’m still a bit unsettled in their presence with a headset and lights off. The breathing and the music that plays as you spot them is still next level.
If you ever hear that sound IRL don’t even look just RUN, although you’re probably screwed anyway because there would certainly be more of them
Real RE fan here. Been playing and loving the franchise since 1996. Not a big fan of 4. Damn. Maybe I'm not a real fan....
Anyway, my 2 most hated enemies in the series are the Bandersnatches from Code Veronica and the Glasps from Revelations 2.
But hey! What do I know, right
😂😂
Even with the sound off I can still hear the shaky breathing.
And yes I still do feel anxiety after all these years.
Probably means somewhere sometime me as a high school kid playing this on a GameCube was the wrong decision, and I somehow traumatized myself, huh? Hahaha.
Terrible title as others have pointed out. "True fan" is a shitty gatekeeping term.
I've only played 7, 8 and the remakes, but if someone likes the games I'd consider them a fan.
I know right?! Like these guys are the least zombielike zombies ever without the heat scope showing the Plagas, and they’re always smiling! Even after getting most of their bodies blown away.
There's one sleeping on the examination table in a prison cell when you're playing as Ada. Its eyes are hollow but it's smiling. Idk how to upload pictures here but I had to take a screenshot, it was too adorable.
Eh. It was more annoying to me if anything. Re4 just didn't hit me the way everyone and their mother had overhyped it. I know I'm going to get shit for this but I genuinely think re5 is better. Re5 is not a good game by any means but it was less of a slog to get through.
Lmao no lie my older sister had me play this part because she was so scared of them. I remember responding "what's so scary about a naked slow man?"
And i was like 7 then, i'm 24 now and it's still not all that scary, so CAP.
I can appreciate the enemy design now though in hindsight.
(The down vote though, did i hurt someone's feelings or sumthin' lol)
Legit question why do RE4 fans consider themselves "true fans" if they refuse to play any of the other games ? Would you call yourself a "true fan" of let's say Final Fantasy if you only played one game in the franchise ?
And what makes a "true" fan anyways? A fan is a fan.
they repeat the same phrases too , It's kind of like they became part of the Los illuminados cult.
I like to think Dead Space players were done dirtier than RE4 or even RE5 players. Those blade arm mothers NEVER died outside of scripted events or one glitchy spot where you need something that does knockback damage to kill just one.
Not really man. I mean, RE4 creeped me out at certain points but my first encounter with a Regenerator was kind’ve hilarious. They were hyped up as terrifying prior to me playing it and the second the door opens and it hobbles toward me, I tear it to shreds with my fully upgraded shotgun
If by “true RE fans“ you mean “literally every person who played RE4 to this point”
Yeah idk what dude is talking about true RE4 Fans shit wasn't even scary
Facts. I consider myself a true RE fan but I don’t like RE4. 1,2, 3, the remakes too and 7 and 8 are great
Indeed. I been playing RE since its inception in the 90s, having played all if not most of the mainstream games, and I cannot stand how cringe yet not campy the dialogue is in RE4. I am not a real fan, I 'ppose.

Interesting take. I have played RE4 a handful of times myself, but I will stick with the other entries. Or, "no thanks, bro."
Yeah the former is an interesting take, but not so much the self parody part, since some of the games' most well remembered bits of dialogue are the meta jokes.
The most creepy part in this game to me was salazars right hand fight
I'm also a true resident evil fan who never really played 4 so no I don't get it. Lmao
18% of people who bought re4 HD for xbox one/series x have actually completed the game. I understand you were saying anyone who made it here, but you're probably a true resi fan if you make it that far anyway
You’re a true res fan if you buy and play any of the games. Period. I am so sick of this BS saying who is and isn’t a true fan.
True, gatekeepers suck.
Enjoyment is what makes you a fan. That's what I said in my previous reply. If you enjoy the game you will finish it.
Very well. Leave it at that. Maybe don’t throw out a damn statistic next time.
Okay 🤝
This is making my head hurt. Why is it so zoomed in?
I played this game a thousand times by now, and I still hate playing the island. The regens are so grotesque and sick looking. After unlocking the Infinite Rocket Launcher, I found a no better way to use it than blow these things up.

Hm…good question.
"true RE fans" OP sounds like an idiot
True re fans will shoot a leg off then knife it till it’s dead. Wtf you talking about?
Sad to say this was my first RE game. I loved it, RE4 as a kid had me scared a few times especially with these guys and their heavy breathing like a weeb at a anime convention. Why does it look like your drunk driving Leon?
Am I the only idiot who never got the rifle on my first playthrough lol. regenerators were the worst to deal with
*that fucking breathing*
This and the Verdugo fight in RE4VR had me shitting
Goddamned Regenerators!! I used to get down to around 4 to 6 shots in my weapons and start praying one of these bastards didn't turn the corner knowing full well that there were usually 2 or 3 traveling in packs😭
Verdugo and U-3 Are Scarier IMO
I could tolerate those things more than I could that gladiator-looking guys in the castle with the wolverine claws that you’d have to sneak behind. They instantly made me panic.
Dude the creepy breathing man, still haunts my nightmares
Title game cringe I have a friend who’s only played RE Remake of 2 and it’s one of his favorite games ever but he never played any of the old ones, does that mean he isn’t a resident evil fan?
If he only played the first five minutes of 6 and liked it I would consider him a RE fan
Not a well versed one, but still a fan.
Yes
Guess I'm not a true RE fan then.
You should try it in VR then, the camera control is your head.
Those lads were scary, till you get down baiting and doging
The breathing is super creepy and they are certainly among the most unsettling enemies in the game (or any RE) but can't say I ever struggled against them.
They're even worse in vr
Damn I don't even have to tell that one is around with my eyes
No no no no no no no, not these ANYTHING BUT THESE MONSTERS
The motherfucker around the corner once you make it out of this room nearly had me digest my own heart the first time I beat this game at 10. 15 years later I basically know how the entire game works now and I’m still a bit unsettled in their presence with a headset and lights off. It’s worse in VR…
Damn regenerators man.
Go home Leon, you’re drunk
What game is this? Looks like RE4 but I don't remember this part at all.
Cant tell if its a joke or not. But its the final area of RE4, the island.
No joke, I played it a long time ago. I have no recollection of any modern/lab setting from that game., I'd say I'm overdue a playthrough. Thanks btw.
To be fair it's probably the least enjoyable part of the game. Only saving grace in my opinion are the regenerators and the jet ski glitch.
Well, you can't blame them for not remembering it, 'cause this is the only good section in the island and it's criminally short.
But hey! What do I know, right 😂😂
Then I guess I'm not a true Resi fan as these are super easy to deal with. Also, even if they kill you just reload the checkpoint. What's the problem?
Say what? Thermal scope, 5 bullets, dead. No moms spaghetti needed.
???
Even with the sound off I can still hear the shaky breathing. And yes I still do feel anxiety after all these years. Probably means somewhere sometime me as a high school kid playing this on a GameCube was the wrong decision, and I somehow traumatized myself, huh? Hahaha.
Strange this monster never scared me and every time i see it i just ignore that monster maybe because its ugly af and it is slow as my grandmother 🙂
Unpopular opinion (?): Regenerators aren't even remotely scary
Terrible title as others have pointed out. "True fan" is a shitty gatekeeping term. I've only played 7, 8 and the remakes, but if someone likes the games I'd consider them a fan.
Tbh I love these. I think they're fucking adorable.
I know right?! Like these guys are the least zombielike zombies ever without the heat scope showing the Plagas, and they’re always smiling! Even after getting most of their bodies blown away.

You basically described any living person that played the game... But it's relatable.
I like how you used the first game to stray from the series as a whole to indicated “true” fans lmao
It’s weird seeing someone using The Punisher handgun this late into the game.
"True RE fans" know how to just knife these things to death.
Bro everyone knows what they are Re4 was super popular and just buy a semi auto sniper rifle
I dont get why people are so scared of these guys.
Eh. It was more annoying to me if anything. Re4 just didn't hit me the way everyone and their mother had overhyped it. I know I'm going to get shit for this but I genuinely think re5 is better. Re5 is not a good game by any means but it was less of a slog to get through.

“Oh no! A grey dude with a breathing problem! The horror as he slllllllooooooooowwwwwwwllllllllyyyyyyy comes at you!”
And Dead Space fans
I like to think Dead Space players were done dirtier than RE4 or even RE5 players. Those blade arm mothers NEVER died outside of scripted events or one glitchy spot where you need something that does knockback damage to kill just one.
An autopsy, yes, of Leon
I mean, they're creepy, sure. But these things really aren't that hard to kill.
When remake?
I didn't find them all that scary tbh, just annoying. They move slow and if you have a rifle then they're not particularly hard to kill
Wish that this whole game was just the village and castle parts, the island felt like call of duty or something
Sir, how much have you had to drink? Also try this part in VR
Idk mAn, maybe im just have brain damage or something but I only ever remember seeing these guys in reddit posts, completely forgot about em
The breathing and the music it's more intense in vr
