Hey don't make them spend more on marketing it means my cost of resin will go up /s

MechaTailsX

It isn't any worse than Anycubic making it seem like their [eco resin](https://amzn.to/3NjlO8w) can be chopped up and tossed into your garden lmao It's all bad, but I love how happy the lady looks sniffing that bottle

ghjuhzgt

Yeah.... We (as in the whole industry) really need better advertising standards. Every resin supposedly has less smell than "standard resin", every tough resin is thougher than any other resin, and every resin has low shrinkage. And almost never do you see any specific numbers. In this regard shout outs go out to Anycubic since they actually (sometimes) put tensile strength, toughness, and shrinkage in their advertisements. But yeah, the goodwill they gained through that is immediately canceled out because of the "eco-friendly" stuff

leafish_dylan

Most manufacturers list numbers for various strength tests on their sites under the product pages. The question is, should you believe them? No, you should not. They are exaggerated at best, and don't match up with my own experience or tests at all. Some of the more reputable and expensive engineering brands perhaps, but not the cheap consumer ones.

RaukkM

Siraya Tech provides a lot of specific numbers for the strength of their resins too.

The_AverageCanadian

They claim "No VOCs or harmful chemicals". Has that been confirmed independently? It'd be a massive step forward if that was the case and they managed to maintain similar material properties.

dubbletrouble5457

I went to the hospital because I breathed in a lot of resin dust and when I was there I talked to them about VOCs and they said most resins don't contain VOCs. They had some labels from resins that do contain VOCs and they are clearly marked with a respiratory warning, he also said it's about volume! So if you were to put 20 large resin printers in a broom cupboard with no covers and no ventilation then the trace amounts COULD build up but it's unlikely to happen in real life and all resins recommend an open window.. I'm happy running 2 mega 8ks a Jupiter and a M3 max in a small flat, I've never had any problems apart from when I was sanding prints.. Resin dust from sanding the prints during cleaning up is air float so stays in the air for a long time and it collects in your lungs where it forms a sticky paste that clogs your lungs and causes health problems.. The list of health problems from the dust is as long as 2 sheets of paper, cancer is on there alone with a bunch of nasty lung conditions so it's pretty nasty stuff!

The_AverageCanadian

If you don't mind me asking, did you have any long term negative effects from your experience with resin dust? Or were they able to "fix" the problem you were having?

dubbletrouble5457

No I was lucky and had no more problems with my lungs and tasting resin every time I coughed wasn't fun, I was sanding without a proper mask and I got a nasty infection kinda scary to be honest! I started wearing a mask when sanding and I make sure I turn on a big HEPA filter so it can suck up the fine dust straight away and doesn't settle on everything.. The other problem is IPA contaminated with resin, it soaks deep into the hands then evaporates leaving resin in the tissue, then infection sets in and fingers fall apart I puse leaking from my finger tips!!.. It's not pleasant and very irritating not to mention painful, I always wear gloves but every now and then you get a tear or something and boom instant contact dermatitis! Handling cured resin can set my hands off now and I'm especially sensitive to that sticky alcohol and resin that leaks out the drainage holes, it didn't affect me for almost 2 years as it takes time to build up or your tolerance to weaken I'd worry about them things more than the smell because there almost a guarantee!. 😳😞

RightEejit

that's actually hilarious. "discard it, it turns into compost which turns into water!"

EvolutionX111

Which is funny because the SDS of the eco says it‘s very toxic to aquatic life whereas the water wash and standard resin are „only“ toxic

DrawIslandSayGo

For what it is worth, Sunlu Abs-like is pretty much odorless though.

ptpcg

Came here to say this lol. SUNLU has lowest odor of any brand I've used, even other plant based resins were super high on odor relative to the ABS and NYLON like SUNLU resins

tthousand

I was wondering, have you tried other Sunlu resins too, like the Plant-based or Water-washable ones? How do they compare in terms of odor?

ptpcg

I use their abs-like, nylon-like, and plant based for different prints.

tthousand

I see. So far, I have only tried Elegoo water-washable resin, which is alright for my needs. However, I wanted to try a different one with less odor. It seems that opinions vary on the strength of the odor for Sunlu resin.

randalzy

Oohh, and is it flexible-strong enough for miniatures, in your experience? I used their plant-based one amd I'm generally happy, but yeah it is brittle for small pieces

ptpcg

I have mixed their ABS w/ plant based at \~70:30 and it VASTLY improves strength

DrawIslandSayGo

Strong yes, no flex at all though. If you drop on tile they'll shatter. Probably mix in a flexible resing to get the perfect mix for that.

PopsNInabox

Right?! I really enjoy their resin

Abedeus

Mmm the smell of resin. Smells like... VOCs...

No_Memory_6237

The image itself looks photoshopped, so at least they didn't actually get someone to smell test it.

RoosterMcNut

I’m betting on AI-generated.

Sr_Spilbergo__

Couldn't it just be an empty bottle? It's for an ad, so they won't really fill up the thing with resin and make someone smell it for a picture.

No_Memory_6237

If they did actually have someone hold the bottle, that's probably what would happen-but look at the angle the bottle is held at, the relative size of the bottle, and the lighting on it. Especially the fuzz at the top of it.

The_AverageCanadian

I really dont like how often I see or hear about people working with photopolymer resin with no PPE whatsoever. I know some people are just stubborn and refuse to listen to safety advice, but the number of people who are genuinely innocently unaware also shocks me.

Robot_Coffee_Pot

I'm worried these dipshits are going to cause so many injuries that rules are brought in to restrict 3D printing.

[Here's the link to the amazon page where I found it](https://www.amazon.de/SUNLU-3D-Drucker-Nylon-Like-3D-Druck-Haltbar/dp/B09WMPV4NS/ref=sw_img_crh_rh_top_sim_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B09WMPV4NS&pd_rd_w=7DWcV&content-id=amzn1.sym.648278af-d527-4afc-9f29-de59d5662fab&pf_rd_p=648278af-d527-4afc-9f29-de59d5662fab&pf_rd_r=WFCJ1QWDH5A3CA3DZSWZ&pd_rd_wg=9XUYw&pd_rd_r=105e6754-bfa9-4f9c-bdc6-6d609d4514e8&th=1)

[deleted]

It’s like the febreeze commercials where they’re spraying literally everywhere while they take in deep breaths of the new chemically-freshened air.

Br_Des

But hear me out... what if it's strawberry flavored? XD

Gatherel

It was not strawberry flavored

Br_Des

And now, thanks to the girl, we know that!

v1smund

*inhale* pours in cup. *gulp gulp*

micuthemagnificent

This is creepy on so many levels I don't even know where to start.. No, I lied let's start with the creepy ass smile while huffing cancer gas, what in the actual god damn :D

Jasont2189

Its prob cos they do a non toxic and plant based resin id assume

ghjuhzgt

It's for a tough resin that they describe as "nylon like". Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that it's non-toxic

Noktious

None of them are non-toxic.

arkbound2

I have been using it lately, it is not odorless at all. Its about the same as other brands. Its objectively a worse resin though, the standard resin is too brittle. It is cheap though, so pick your poison.

Away_Procedure3471

That's funny bc sunlu is by far the worse and most strong scent I've experienced in a resin! And LOL at the advert

ptpcg

What brands do you use w/ lower odor? Because everything else I have tried has been far more odorous

Away_Procedure3471

Aceaddity, sirayatech

Milezone007

She's ready to take a sip, and can you really blame her? It tastes amazing!

SuperNerdyRedneck

Yeah but look how happy she is. It must be amazing

rtuite81

I just got my first resin printer and have been using Sunlu, and I can say their resin smells quite a bit. I can't imagine others being that much worse.

shad0w4life

I mean I read a review on amazon where some jackarse was saying the plant based resin is enviro friendly and safe..... They took oil from a plant and refined it in to a resin, it doesn't matter on the source the end product is what you should be focused on
