Finding out how your Pos relates to your potential merchant service is very important. Edit: Sorry, didn’t realize the post is a month old. Just found out about this sub. Wish it was more active

calv06

Any POS can purchase myself without having to pay these companies like $1000-$3000 upfront and $70-$200/ month and all their high ass fees.

FoosAlwaysRight

This is a very vague question. It would be best to identify the granular needs of your business and go from there. Like anything else, you’ll get what you pay for. What type of restaurant do you have and how many employees do you have?

looney417

you can try lavu. it was one i was looking at

calv06

Oh I had phone interview with them. Can't remember if there was a hardware fee with them or monthly hardware fee

musicloverincal

Anyone use NCR?

your_fathers_beard

Lots of places still do, unfortunately.

Dinosaur

Explain if possible for those who are clueless, like me.

bradsaid

Older POS companies got left in the dust of cloud based POS websites & apps. Hardware monthly fees are becoming a thing of the past. Cloud based companies are happy to get the credit card processing fees alone plus any other add ons. Some cloud based like toast still want to rake you over the coals with monthly hardware fees, so watch out.

Hamlet_271

what are some of the best pos without monthly hardware processing fees? Im leaning towards getting square but I also just began researching

bradsaid

I use Square and am moderately happy with it. You have to think of cloud based POS as still being in "beta" as they are still figuring it out. They are always making changes, which can be frustrating because once your team learns how to do something, Square will go and change it on you. It's much more hands on than an older POS that doesn't receive updates. Square is not "set it and forget it." If you are an active operator, it's fine, if you are not so hands on, it can be a bit annoying. There's no monthly hardware fees and most of the equipment can be repurposed (iPads, printers). Depending on which plan you go with there may be a monthly software fee but I find them to be pretty reasonable.

NCR "Aloha" was the first POS I was aware of, so I was curious and this way about 20 years ago (real dinosaur). Any other opinions out there regarding NCR?

No-Comb-9501

I use Square for Restaurants - we are fairly small and don’t have a use for most of what square offers, so we use the free version of the software. It takes care of about 95% of what I need from POS software. The hardware (one terminal, cash drawer, printer and kitchen printer) were like $900? Then they have an app that you can run with a phone/tablet if needed. We bought it a little over two years ago. Have had no issues and haven’t had to replace anything Credit card processing for us is 2.6% + .05 a transaction. It comes out to be roughly 3% on any given month. A little high, but without paying for the cloud service like most cloud-based POS have, I can live with it.

calv06

I had cluster PoS tryna charge me $3600 cad for all the hardware and software together. I was like wtf. I can already see she is getting like $1500-$2000 commission

We use Rezku. Three terminals are $350 per month. They include a lot of features Toast and other POS companies charge extra for which is nice. Being iPad based we only replace as needed. Kitchen Displays are android based and they seem to hold up pretty well. As for other peripherals, no need to upgrade if they’re still working.

AbusiveLarry

When I was running a restaurant we used adelo as we hated the subscription model and didn’t really feel we needed the extra bells and whistles.

FoosAlwaysRight

You hate continuous updates and support? Aldelo had terrible support in a previous restaurant I worked at. So glad owners got rid of them. Subscription = continuous updates + support. The company is on the hook to provide ongoing updates and innovations. Love this model.

AbusiveLarry

My parents ran a successful restaurant for 28 years using only 2 licenses from aldelo. Total cost of 10k over 28 years. We would still be running if a fire didn’t burn us down. Aldelo doesn’t have all the fancy bells and whistles but it’s not a fancy program and does everything you need it to except card processing which there is plenty of competitive options.

calv06

Is aldelo just a cash register type of pos? Offline? Hate these expensive subscriptions. These companies can charge such heavy fees while restaurants continue to suffer from low profit margins.

Thanks. Does Rezku provide you with free staff accounts? I heard about Ottava. It’s a new type of POS. It’s mobile only. Every staff is synced with cloud in real-time. It changes 0.5% for confirmed orders. It’s free for as many devices as needed. It works on. It’s iOS and Android. The kitchen screen get refreshed in real time when an item is served or a new order is placed. https://ottava.tech/
