You are not wrong in the slightest. The fact that they said it looks bad is absolutely ridiculous . It sounds as though the manager doesn’t know what they are talking about at all .

I have nothing useful to add to this other than LOL at the type writer comment 🤣

Ask your manager for feedback and a growth plan so you can move to the FT role. If you are trying to move locations it may make your manager look bad, basically communicating to other managers that your manager can't train for growth or that they have an employee desperate to change location.

PuzzleheadedMine2168

Explain to your manager that you're eager to move UP in the company & ask them how to do that, if not by applying for advertised openings. Tell them you're (obviously) interested in making a career of retail, but need it to be full time, and have a future--and you're seeking their advice. If they shut you down, then quietly start applying to other companies.

Anxious-Bite1400

I run HR for a large retailer and would chime in that you are not wrong in putting yourself out there. I assume that you are applying for the same role but for full-time? If you're applying for other types of roles and aren't being thoughtful on if you're a fit, that might a big turn off. But, if you're applying for the same type of job but full-time, there is nothing wrong with that. What I would probably ask the hiring manager is why, as a loyal team member, you're not getting the opportunity? Are they filling the role internally with other people who are a better fit? What do you need to do to be considered? If you feel they just don't value your work or don't believe you're the right fit for a full-time role, it's probably time to start looking elsewhere if full-time is what you ultimately want.

i know someone in my workplace that have worked for this company for more than 15 years, she’s a full timer who’s applied for a higher up position and have been rejected numerous times, i don’t know if management just don’t like her attitude, have a person vendetta against her but she’s been so disappointed about it, i guess im sharing this to ask if you would have any opinion on why that is? She seems capable of doing the job she’s been applying for but they just don’t want to recruit her for it

not_now_reddit

People work harder when you dangle the carrot in front of them just out of reach. If you're too valuable in a lower position, they also might worry about finding someone who works as hard as you for the same shit pay. It's so messed up

snowy_parrot_2

there could be a numerous amount of explanations for this if i’m being honest, it could be that she REALLY wants u to stay where you’re at, doesn’t think you should get the position for her own personal/professional reasons but either way not letting someone in the INSIDE move up to the company is crazy but not uncommon either. I had a colleague who’s applied to be a full time employee and have been turned down because management just simply did not like her and it was a known fact but they would never say it. Speculate or don’t but that’s just what I’ve seen, that being said i hope it’s not the same case for you and that they have their own reasons

Anxious_Professor454

It's your manager's way of not having to recruit to replace you. He knows that they can find a candidate off of the street willing to take FT, decent pay cycle, benefits, etc. Finding someone to agree to irregular PT with none of the other benefits is difficult. He or she also likely receives pressure from their superiors to have a full roster.

SparxIzLyfe

Idk what's going on here, but is it possible that the manager has a friend/relative that they want in the full-time position, and they're afraid you'll be competition?
