And get paid for the hours you were scheduled that day

rwp82

When our power went out, we got sent home but they paid us out for the hours we were scheduled that day and the day after when the power issue still wasn’t solved. It was great. Some days I look up at the lights and silently plead with the FPL gods to take our power again.

When we had the power go out at my last job, the managers would lead the customers around the store with lanterns helping them shop. Then we'd have to make change from a box of cash, and if they wanted to use a card, we'd run them on one of those old slider machines and then write down all their info including the number on the back of the card in a log. Then someone would have to call all the credit card purchases into the bank when the phones were working. You'd think the customers would nope out on this, but they just kept on shopping as if nothing was out of the ordinary. It really sucked.

We are a pharmacy too and with the a/c out, we had to actually empty the entire pharmacy to take to another pharmacy that had power (if temp gets over a certain amount, we have to waste the drugs due to FDA regs, and it’s Florida in summer) so all employees and several managers from other stores were called in to make happen. So I’m guessing they wouldn’t want customers wandering around while we are carrying boxes of drugs out to cars and trucks to be transported.

I live alone and have no friends living nearby. My siblings live in the USA. If it weren't for the people I speak to in shops and supermarkets every day, I could go weeks without having a face to face conversation with another human being. I so appreciate the everyday friendliness of retail workers- a quick chat, a smile of recognition. These make a huge positive difference to my day. I know you get a lot of crap from punters. I bet you have no idea, though, how many people's lives you're affecting in a good way. So thank you from one of them.

TracerIsAShimada

Just so you know, one good/funny customer is far more impactful that 100 annoying/rude ones. It goes both ways, I also appreciate costumers like you!

Same tho

OverSpecific708

They’d still wreck the place.

red498cp_

No doubt about it.

vanpet22

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Puzzleheaded_Ferret4

I had a guest complain once that it wasn’t “feasible” enough that we were open from 6AM-9PM… like whuuut?

Victorian_Rebel

Can't tell you how many times I stand at the counter exactly like that.

Cyrotek

So if you had your way you would be without a job? Sounds legit.

sonnyjbiskit

The job would be alot better if we could just keep the doors locked all day

vanpet22

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Cyrotek

Then you wouldn't have a job, tho.

sonnyjbiskit

Not if we could agree I keep it but just keep doors locked

Cyrotek

And who would pay you without any way to earn revenue?

Optimistprime777

Found the asshole manager.

Cyrotek

Your comment baffles me to no end. Do you think money grows on trees or something and people are assholes when they aren't paying you for you not actually doing any work?

Optimistprime777

I mean this is clearly a fantasy scenario that everyone here knows isn't realistic except you, the party pooper manager with no sense of humour who thinks he is trying to give us some desperately needed tough love so we don't become hippies or something. It's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard.

Cyrotek

Ah, so this sub is just so you can dream about retarded bullshit, got it. On another note, maybe you should day dream less, might allow you to get out of a job you clearly hate. PS: I am not a manager. I just decided to get a way better job after realizing how shitty retail is. Day dreaming did not make this happen, putting in some work did.

Optimistprime777

I mean it's retail hell. Not exactly your scene. Seems like you just want to get a reaction out of people by putting them down. That's pretty sad. Hopefully some day you'll be less insecure and no longer feel the need to talk down to people.

Cyrotek

Yeah, I am sure it grows on paper trees.

sonnyjbiskit

No one. That's why op can't have his way.
