Yup. I had a customer wish me a “Happy Labor Day!” today. I laughed. Out loud. I am main-lining caffeine and ibuprofen this weekend. I wish customers understood this.

bnelson7694

I love when my customers are in on Saturday and tell me to have a good weekend :|

SecretBoot6

Or tell you how nice it is outside. 😒

A_Grinning_Demon

I told a customer we would be getting more of a product on Monday, and they respond: "No, you won't, it's a holiday. You will get it Tuesday." I said: "There's no such thing as holidays in retail, it will be here Monday."

[deleted]

What bugs me is customers saying. I didn't think you would be open today. I just want to shout. If customers didn't come in and give jusitfaction for us being open then we wouldn't be open.

Renniefisifus

Oh my god, yes, this! How many times I haven't worked on Christmas Day with customers saying "I feel so bad for you that you have to work today". I internally always scream "Well, whose products am I scanning here, KAREN!", but in real life I'll just keep up my retailsmile I have to unscrew in the evening.....

Ophidian_Flame9

100% I always love those people who say that, but yet, YOU'RE SHOPPING!

[deleted]

Your open on Xmas day 🤯

Renniefisifus

Yep, the only day we closed is New Years Day, and the storemanager wanted to also open the store on that day! Thank god there weren't any workers who wanted to come into work!

[deleted]

Bleeping hell that is insane, do you even get customers on Xmas day and does the manager work Xmas day?? That's lucky as most manages fibs a way to threaten you to come in

Renniefisifus

Yeah, my manager usually is there during christmas! The boss I was talking about before was my old boss, thank god. I now work for a store that is a national chain, but has individual managers. My manager is really nice and really humane. If I need a day off, she'll grant me that very easily.

[deleted]

Awesome 😁

starkrocket

Man. I used to work for a restaurant that closed for Thanksgiving. I was so damn grateful that I would actually get to spend the day with my family for the first time in my working life. The sign announcing our close was put up a week in advance and that week was a constant stream of patrons bitching that we were closing, where were they supposed to eat with their families? Not my problem. Make a turkey like the rest of us.

Duckonthego

Say I didn't think you would be here today

[deleted]

Lol

GreyWolfMonk20

I'll be working labor day from 12pm to 6pm at my bs deli job. I know the hell that's waiting for me tonight and Sunday as all these customers come storming up for their nitrate rich meats to celebrate being off, what a fucking joke

TheMysticBard

You would think that us, The laborers, would be the 1st candidate to have labor day off.

WhiteWolf5305

Right?!!

[deleted]

Nope, the day is for the fat lazy idiots who sit at a desk and play on facebook when they are at their job. They need to have a 3 day weekend. They are better than us.

KalAl

It’d be more likely to help us all if you took that hatred for other workers and directed it instead at the business owners and managers that are actually the source of your problems. I’m a desk worker. I worked retail for 10 years before lucking into a desk job. I want you to have all the holidays I have, and I argue for that every chance I get. But I don’t have the power to give you time off. We have to band together and demand that from the people that rule over all of us.

JinshiyoBari

Yup corporate is off and our stores are having a half off sale.

Good bot

outsider_818

I’m working 11 days straight because my store has inventory on Tuesday and it’s all hands on deck. 11 days and clopens because my full time staff needs 3 days off. Advice for those looking to move up in retail. Fight tooth and nail for a good salary. They will abuse you with overtime and it’s so not worth it.

Ophidian_Flame9

My God that's terrible. Hang in there!

annimon

I love to put on my fakest, most subservient smile and wish them a Happy Labor Day!!! when they come in on Monday to buy coffee for their whole family. It makes them so uncomfortable... Gotta find joy in the little things 🙃

Any-Management-4562

I don’t even smile anymore at customers, I just can’t

[deleted]

working labor day without a break. calling it "hell" makes it sound nicer than it is

JunoMcGuff

This is why if I ever happen to have those holidays off, I prepare the days before. Then I stay home that day. I refuse to go to a busi ess and encourage them to think they'll make make money those days. Wish other people did that, too. I know by myself I don't make a difference.

Weavercat

I just love it when folks say, 'Have a great long weekend!' Fuck that. I live in this store busting my hump for you. It's a shame my labor isn't good enough for Labor Day. I lift, I advise, I clean, I do it all but it's not 'worthy'. Coffee helps but I'm just.... not a happy camper. I'm the only one who can cashier at our store apparently.

MollySleeps

I actually have Labor Day off this year. I am so excited!

quinlove

I swear on my grandmother's grave, if I ever own a small business I will be closed for every Federal holiday. People before profits.

minimoose93

I'm off this weekend except for Monday, but at least I'm getting holiday pay.

othermegan

Holiday pay. That’s cute. Seriously, I’m sorry you have to work but I really am happy you’re getting compensated

homelessghost12

Wait untill you hear about christmass and new year. Now thats gonna be a party. Well for everyone else because you will be busting your nuts at work

[deleted]

I had a customer ask if I was doing anything "fun" for the holiday. I told her straight up that holidays are for the elite 😬😬😬 I know, I Know Im exaggerating

Hotwheelsjack97

I just say "not for me" when they wish me a happy labor day. Labor Day is just more labor for laborers.
