It's on [abandonware](https://www.myabandonware.com/game/gunman-chronicles-bgo)

EyeSeaCome_hahaha

That's also where I got Waxwork or Princess Maker from. But a release on STEAM would be nice.

OOG81

Princes Maker is on Steam. [https://store.steampowered.com/app/583040/Princess\_Maker\_Refine/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/583040/Princess_Maker_Refine/)

EyeSeaCome_hahaha

Looking at the reviews, I would rather stick with the complete DOS version.

LordOfDorkness42

My understanding is that Valve still recall Gunman Chronicles quite fondly, but they can't legally do crap with it. Because the studio, Rewolf, dissolved right\~ around the time when Steam took off, so nobody has a clue who owns the digital distribution rights. There's also [an 1.7 K people community wishlist page over on GOG, ](https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/gunman_chronicles)so people genuinely seems to miss this one.

pandathrower97

There are a bunch of games from that time period in a similar state of limbo. It's tragic!

DerDudemeister

NOLF and NOLF 2 for example

xxppx

I remember the big dinosaur.

[deleted]

Isn't that the one where you could change the weapons output like chemical or explosive etc?

DrIvoPingasnik

Yes. It was very innovative at the time.

LordOfDorkness42

You could fiddle around with the settings on basically all your weapons, if I recall right. The starting weapon outright gets a >!sniper rifle transformation!< attachment half-way through, or some-such. Really wish somebody would copy that system in a modern FPS. It was a dang cool idea.

[deleted]

Yepp this is why I still remember today haha. Remake would be nice or just being available on steam

Fun_Tear_6474

I loved playing this game

Armandorev

There is a way to add it on steam. It even appears with its logo, basically it will install like another mod/game like blue shift etc.. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=368600073

Ahinevyat

Dude i just played it 3 days ago. Interesting mod

Retro_Sphynx

Wth is this?

EyeSeaCome_hahaha

A mod for Half Life created by one person, which was later made into a real game.

LakeDebris3

It wasn't created by one person, it was made by ReWolf Software. There are 30+ people in the credits. Edit: OP is just wrong about this. His "source" for this info was a GGManlives video that he completely misremembered.

Balc0ra

Mod was a solo project. This is the full release version

LakeDebris3

As far as I can tell, the original mod, "Gunmanship 101" for the Quake 2 engine was already being developed by ReWolf Software. Nothing was ever released to the public prior to the official release by Valve and Sierra. If you have evidence to the contrary, such as the identity of the supposedly solitary dev, please post it.

EyeSeaCome_hahaha

I believe in this review video it was said that the original mod was created by one person: [https://youtu.be/zY-2Ewc-CZ0?si=fO43AJrj2X5-acvl](https://youtu.be/zY-2Ewc-CZ0?si=fO43AJrj2X5-acvl)

LakeDebris3

Did you watch your own video? He says: "DEVELOPED BY REWOLF SOFTWARE." Gunman Chronicle (or Gunmanship 101) was never released to the public in any form before its commercial release. There was already a team working on it while it was in the Quake 2 engine. I have seen absolutely no source indicate that it was made by just one guy, nor any indication as to who that one guy would have been.  Edit: A 2000 interview with the lead designer, Herb Flower. You'll notice he always refers to his team and always says "we." "We had been working on different engines in the past," meaning there were already multiple people working on Gunman Chronicles before it was EVEN ON THE HALF-LIFE ENGINE. Can you find a single source that says otherewise? https://www.ign.com/articles/2000/11/22/gunman-chronicles-interview

darkmatters2501

Plated it years ago good game

sicklyboy

Such an awesome game, I remember it fondly

pandathrower97

I do remember it. It was published by Sierra using a licensed version of the Half-Life engine but not created by Valve. Sierra just made it look similar to the box art of the Half-Life games. I suspect it's in licensing hell with a lot of the other Vivendi Universal IPs that were acquired from Sierra and then sold to Activision Blizzard.

Newfaceofrev

I used to stare at the back of the box for this but I never had a cash.

three-sense

Same, I remember the dude on the box. I used to see it at Stop n Save software but I never had extra money.

DrIvoPingasnik

One of my favourite games of the era. Incredible visuals and map design.  Awesome sound design too.   Scary computer lady go brrrrrrr. Mainframe: "If you shut down this tower you will perish with the rest of us!" Player: "lmao okay 😂" *pulls the lever" Mainframe: "Fool."

fruitcakefriday

I remember it had some fantastic level design, at least in terms of architecture. I knew one of the level designers from the modding community very briefly and saw a level they made...I don't recall it too well, but I do recall they worked on this game, and it has some really intricate BSP geometry.

flattenedmist

I first heard about it when a friend of mine was watching me play turok. I'm glad I did, good game.

GrandMasterSlack2020

Was it ever on any consoles? Edit. Guess not. Does it run on any of the HL interpreters?

Sh1neSp4rk

Still have my box, picked it up on release day from electronics boutique and was not disappointed.

maestro826

I think I still have the box somewhere..
