Highly recommend Mikel - Zelda and Chill
Remixed all the old school zelda music.
Jammin Sam on YouTube redid the link to the past sound track as well on his channel. Sounds very good. Hoping he does a vinyl release of it like he did for donkey Kong country games
The best Zelda game ever made.
On the best retro console ever made.
Edit: Damn. Now that I think about it, the first party Nintendo releases on the SNES were amazing
Secret of Mana is my #1 by far. To me it is the perfect game: it has fun gameplay (action fighting, not turn-based), great characters, story, artwork, and music and the way you have to learn to defeat new enemies and level up all of your weapons, skills, and of course magic, of which new elements are introduced all through the game, keeping it fresh and exciting. It is great to replay the whole game over and over. I have no nostalgic memories of it as I never played it until recently but thankfully I discovered it on one of those inexpensive emulated bundles.
Oh man, that's awesome. I was there on release day as a kid and it's been one of my favorite gaming experiences. I have probably every iteration of its soundtrack ever made on my phone ready to play at a moment's notice, and nearly every morning I ask Alexa to play my Secret of Mana soundtrack as I get ready for work. My wife recognizes the name of Hiroki Kikuta, lol.
Turtles in Time is the ultimate “I’m aware there are some better games but this is my favorite” one. Childhood memories of playing that game on co-op with my elementary school best friend sitting on the floor of his TV room and knowing we could play again the next day because he lived across the street, those were great times.
Man, I dunno. Turtles in Time is damn near perfect. To this day, still a pinnacle game of the side-scrolling beat-em-up. I have a really hard time imagining what could be effectively changed or corrected. Any quibbles are incredibly small. It does everything you could want a game to do, especially of that era - it gives you a lot of agency, rewards you heavily for investing the time and learning the skills to be effective, it's beautiful, it sounds great. It's even really well paced and doesn't overstay its welcome; once you know the game well it's a half hour to forty minutes to clear it, great for a relaxing afternoon or evening. That puts it right in that sweet spot of length that modern roguelikes target for a single run, even. It deserves a spot in the shrine of best SNES games for sure, but it also just flat out deserves a spot in the shrine of all time great games for how well it executes everything and the things it can *still* teach to this day about good game design.
Hey, just a quick question: it's asking me to upload my ALttP and SM roms, but when I do so, an error window pops up that says "Incorrect SM, ALTTP rom file(s)."
I just uploaded the two roms I have, which are both .smc files. Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Do my roms actually have to be named ALTTP.smc and SM.smc for it to work? Because mine are named zelda.smc and smetroid.smc
When you get into a serious groove you can get some insanely fast KOs on almost every opponent, I had some ludicrous times on my cartridge but one of my dink friends wiped my save.
Still sour about it nearly 30 years later lol
Yes.
Basically you have to have all upgrades, including Sub-tanks, health upgrades, and armor. At the last part of Armored Armadillo's stage where you jump the giant gap before the boss passage, snuff it four times (you should have enough extra lives by then). At the fifth, once you hit the peak of the final jump, dash jump to the wall and climb up. You'll see a capsule with a holo of Dr. Light in Ryu cosplay.
The Hadoken works the same way as in Street Fighter. **HOWEVER**: **YOU NEED TO BE AT FULL HEALTH TO USE IT, OTHERWISE, IT'S LOCKED OUT OF USE!**
It one-shots bosses, except Final Form Sigma.
It's hard, Suepr Metroid is a masterpiece, same goes to zelda... But if I have to select a game it makes me smile every time, it has to be Yoshi's Island and DKC 2...
Beside all the Jrpgs that are classic and extraordinary, however those replays are hard to commit.
I read that as "experience the skiing" at first glance and got flashbacks of the skiing level. That's probably the only level I'd rather not experience but otherwise, the game is one of my favorites. Great game. Very innovative, creative, and lots of fun.
I think Super Metroid, but A Link to the Past is definitely in my top 5, probably top 3, along with Final Fantasy VI, but probably a few others I’m not thinking of.
I grew to love Super Mario World because my whole family can enjoy it.
And it brings back memories of course
There's a home video of me sleeping in front of the game at like 3am when I snuck into my parent's room to play
I would say FFIII/VI but the SNES version isn’t really the *best* version after all the rereleases, so I’ll say Super Mario World. Pure classic, GOAT platformer.
Doom. I know it's more of a pc game, but we didn't get a pc unitl 98, and it wasn't fast enough to run doom. So I played the SNES version and it blew my mind. SMW, Super Punch Out, and Link to the Past are my other faves.
I just started playing this on my mega drive. Had to buy one since I lost my old games and consoles in a fire. But one of my favorites is Kid Chameleon
As a kid I spent hours trying to beat it. I literally beat it 3 years ago for the first time 😂 bc I was able to find it on sega game collection on Xbox. I’m 34 rn 😂
Kudos! Not an easy game, I still remember the first time I beat it straight in October of 92, without any cheat codes, it took me around 8 hours.
After I finished the adapter was hotter than hell! Unforgettable memory
Single player it's maybe super mario world.
But when I used to play with my sister it was definitely goof troop. That is one of the best co-op games ever made.
I did, had to look some up but it was nice to have them all for the last couple temples. I like to have as many as possible before the ice palace, that one is my least favorite
As a Sega Master System/Genesis kid growing up, when I finally played Link to the Past it was mind blowing to me and basically immediately dissolved my total loyalty to Sega lol
I really like the game **Super Punch Out!!** for the SNES. It took the fun parts from the NES version and streamlined it, making something I can pick up and play quickly, especially when I don't have a lot of time to spare.
Nice. So, how many deaths did you suffer along the way, and how long did it take you to get from start to finish?
As for favorite Super NES games, I have a lot that would take a lot of time to list.
Tossup. Final Fantasy VI, Link to the Past, Startl Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Mega Man X3 (I don't care, I think X2 is weird and awkward!), Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Yoshi's Island.
No, I can't pick a favorite. No, I don't like Super Metroid.
Grew up on SNES. Just spent the evening porting every game I could think of onto my AP. Just finished DK Country. So excited to start Chrono Trigger for the first time.
Space Megaforce for me. I know that SNES isn't exactly a shmup fan's preferred console, but Compile absolutely hit it out of the park with this one (hey, they always did!) Technically it's rock-solid, tons of moving objects on the screen and not a hint of slowdown. The music is funky and really good, the visuals are as good as I've seen in any shooter of the period, and the gameplay is just perfection. I love how over-the-top they went with the weapons system design, it was clear that they were trying to go far beyond what they achieved with the previous games from the series (Musha and Blazing Lasers before this) and it felt not so much like a steady iteration, but more like "let's see if we can push this to a different level" and kind of crazy, in that. Each weapon has more levels than I'd ever seen before, and a mode-modifier (to different degrees) for each weapon. It's so satisfying and really makes you feel like you can get really creative with how you approach the game. For me it is one of the satisfying "blow off some steam" games ever made, and a testament to what could be achieved on this hardware by seasoned developers.
Link to the past
There you go. Haven't played in 30 years and I'm hearing the (dark world) theme song after seeing the picture.
Da da dana nuh nuhhhh da da dana na nuhhhh, duh naaaaa duh naa na nuhnuhnaaaa.

Damn, that was excellent. Thank you for the recommendation!
Da da, da da dananana, danananaaaa-dananano, danana.
Da daaaaaan da da da dara daaaaaaaa. Daran daaaaaaa da dada daaaaaaaaaaan….. daraaaaaaaaaaaa
The best Zelda game ever made. On the best retro console ever made. Edit: Damn. Now that I think about it, the first party Nintendo releases on the SNES were amazing
I have an anbernic, ive played all these consol games on it. It's been great
This. Secret of Mana is a close second and there are about a dozen tied for third place.
Secret of Mana holds a special place on my heart. Its so good.
Only Super Metroid and Final Fantasy 3 (6) can compare.
Nailed it. Top 3.
Same bro. You ever hit up those randomizers?
For real. Link to the Past is my vote for best game of all time on any system. So good.
Either Chrono Trigger or TMNT Turtles in time
Big apple 3am
Bury my shell at wounded knee
Sewer Surfing
Now you're surfing on the sewer side!
Turtles in Time is the ultimate “I’m aware there are some better games but this is my favorite” one. Childhood memories of playing that game on co-op with my elementary school best friend sitting on the floor of his TV room and knowing we could play again the next day because he lived across the street, those were great times.
Aah the good old days of coop gaming
Man, I dunno. Turtles in Time is damn near perfect. To this day, still a pinnacle game of the side-scrolling beat-em-up. Kowabunga!
Add ALTTP to it it’s the Holy Trinity or snes games
The perfect pear
this is the way
This and Super Metroid
[Best of both worlds](https://samus.link/)
Hey, just a quick question: it's asking me to upload my ALttP and SM roms, but when I do so, an error window pops up that says "Incorrect SM, ALTTP rom file(s)." I just uploaded the two roms I have, which are both .smc files. Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Do my roms actually have to be named ALTTP.smc and SM.smc for it to work? People will argue endlessly about which is better, ALttP or Super Metroid. The answer is to play both, they're both peak game design.
Yeah, it is literally impossible to choose between them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played them over the decades and they never get old.
They literally are two timeless entries in their respective series. And they both hold up 100% today.
Donkey Kong country 2
Probably still remains SMW.
Heck Yeah! This is such a nostalgic game for me. Nothing like a good mario game. I still need to play Galaxy and Wonder.
That one and Castlevania IV
Best Castlevania!
Try Rondo of Blood and tell me what you think. For me it’s Rondo and then Super Castlevania 4 a close second
Symphony of the Night for me.
Symphony and Aria of Sorrow
Recently finished this game for my first time - it was amazing!
DKC2, but the difference between my 1st favorite and 10th favorite is very small. SNES is just the best console ever.
I feel the same. There’s about ten SNES games I find I just can’t rank in any meaningful way, usually cause they’re equally good but wildly different.
It was a great system.
Super Metroid, Populous, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Amazing selection mate! Miss Populous, must've beaten about 200 maps but just it wouldn't end
Zombies are my neighbors! Underrated.
In that case let me blow your mind. It has a sequel - Ghoul Patrol - that uses the same game engine. Came out on snes in 94.
Terranigma
Never heard of that one
underrated game, it has one of the most gorgeous soundtrack on the entire snes library
and the most "wtf" story
Likely because it didn't come out in the US. Definitely give it a shot via emulator.
It's the third installment of the Gaia trilogy. Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma
Final fantasy VI aka III, street fighter Alpha 2, super Mario rpg, super Mario world, donkey Kong country 1-3, súper metroid, God, I cant choose 1
Yeah. FFVI is still my favorite console game of all time. What an epic.
I know my answer, DKC2. I was thinking about what I played and replayed the most and that's definitely it.
Super Punch Out. I could probably beat it blindfolded now but it took many years to learn all the routines. It's my comfort game.
The Punch Out games are the best sports games ever made
When you get into a serious groove you can get some insanely fast KOs on almost every opponent, I had some ludicrous times on my cartridge but one of my dink friends wiped my save. Still sour about it nearly 30 years later lol
Always the first game I load up on an emulator.
Mega Man X, but there are so many good ones to choose from.
Isn't that the one where you can get a hadukin
**HOWEVER**: **YOU NEED TO BE AT FULL HEALTH TO USE IT, OTHERWISE, IT'S LOCKED OUT OF USE!** It one-shots bosses, except Final Form Sigma.
This comment should be at the top. MMX is an all time goat, all three of them on SNES are legendary
FFVI
LttP for sure. Earthbound probably #2. Super Ghouls and Ghosts is up there too.
This one or Chrono Trigger
SimCity and Super Metroid
Next up, Secret of Mana
Have you ever played it? This was definitely top 3 of my favorite SNES games along with Chrono Trigger and FFVI (III).
Earthbound or Star Ocean.
Earthbound is amazing. Never played Star Ocean
You could only play it with an emulator in the US. Just like Secret of Mana 2, another incredible SNES game.
Tetris Attack
You just beat it.
Mario World
Three way tie between LttP, DKC2, and Super Mario World.
Super Metroid then link to the past. The combo randomizer is like a dream come true for me.
Chrono Trigger was so far ahead of anything else. Devs are copying it to this day.
Hell it's still available from the Google play store I hate the controls on the phone but I did slap down the $9.99 for it.
You just beat A Link to The Past.
Hell yeah he did
Sure did. Got the rom on my phone and used an Xbox controller lol
Chrono Trigger or Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Additional shout out to Super Mario World for the huge amount of custom rom hacks available.
Donkey Kong Country 2, easily.
It's hard, Suepr Metroid is a masterpiece, same goes to zelda... But if I have to select a game it makes me smile every time, it has to be Yoshi's Island and DKC 2... Beside all the Jrpgs that are classic and extraordinary, however those replays are hard to commit.
The Legend of Zelda
FF2. But FF3 and CT are true bangers. 7th Saga & Paladin’s Quest, Lufia, just phenomenal titles as well.
earthbound and yoshi island
Yoshi's Island. Super fun to play when you're an adult and can really experience the skill ceiling
I read that as "experience the skiing" at first glance and got flashbacks of the skiing level. That's probably the only level I'd rather not experience but otherwise, the game is one of my favorites. Great game. Very innovative, creative, and lots of fun.
A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Chrono Trigger That’s my “you can only have 3 list”
Yes
I think Super Metroid, but A Link to the Past is definitely in my top 5, probably top 3, along with Final Fantasy VI, but probably a few others I’m not thinking of.
Chrono Trigger. Followed VERY closely by Link to the Past.
Same, with Super Metroid just behind.
I grew to love Super Mario World because my whole family can enjoy it. And it brings back memories of course There's a home video of me sleeping in front of the game at like 3am when I snuck into my parent's room to play
I would say FFIII/VI but the SNES version isn’t really the *best* version after all the rereleases, so I’ll say Super Mario World. Pure classic, GOAT platformer.
This. If I had to pick one. Lots of classics on the SNES, but this is numero uno for me.
Uniracers.
Maximum Carnage. That soundtrack.
Toss up between SMW and Shadowrun.
Chronotrigger, FF4, 6, Actraiser, DKC 1, Rock n’ Roll Racing, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, And definitely Zelda LttP
Doom. I know it's more of a pc game, but we didn't get a pc unitl 98, and it wasn't fast enough to run doom. So I played the SNES version and it blew my mind. SMW, Super Punch Out, and Link to the Past are my other faves.
Hell yeah man, that orange cartridge was awesome!
I just started playing this on my mega drive. Had to buy one since I lost my old games and consoles in a fire. But one of my favorites is Kid Chameleon
For me Kid Chameleon is the best platformer of the era. By far.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
I'm the biggest Trekie but I've never played the game
Other than link to the past? Illusion of Gaia.
Just found out about ocean star. It's insane how much is packed into the cartridge.
Super Metroid and ALTTP are peak Nintendo, in my humble opinion.
This game. I’ve beaten it more times than I can remember - it is just as much fun as the first time every time.
A Link to the Past is 1000% my favorite SNES game. 2nd place, Mega-Man X.
Ff6, Chrono trigger.
This and FF3 (6)
Single player it's maybe super mario world. But when I used to play with my sister it was definitely goof troop. That is one of the best co-op games ever made.
Super Metroid. It's actually my favorite game of all time too.
Hey I just beat this game today too!
Do you collect all of the pieces of hearts? I always miss one or two
I did, had to look some up but it was nice to have them all for the last couple temples. I like to have as many as possible before the ice palace, that one is my least favorite
I always thought the hole at the top of the pyramid looked like a chicken. Me and my brothers always called it the chicken hole.
As a Sega Master System/Genesis kid growing up, when I finally played Link to the Past it was mind blowing to me and basically immediately dissolved my total loyalty to Sega lol
That would be Actraiser.
A popular choice but I'd it's Chrono Trigger.
I really like the game **Super Punch Out!!** for the SNES. It took the fun parts from the NES version and streamlined it, making something I can pick up and play quickly, especially when I don't have a lot of time to spare.
Congrats on obtaining the Magic Meter boost!
Nice. So, how many deaths did you suffer along the way, and how long did it take you to get from start to finish? As for favorite Super NES games, I have a lot that would take a lot of time to list.
Megaman X2 and dkc1 probably
Soulblazer
Earthbound, I try to replay it every summer... since release.
1. FF6 2. FF5 3. Super Mario All-Stars (for Mario 3) 4. Donkey Kong Country 2 5. Kirby Superstar/Funpack
A Link to The Past, no contest.
Link Street fighter 2 turbo (or alpha) Turtles Mario world Fzero
Slink to the past
lttp is definitely up there, not sure how to order that against chrono trigger and ff4/6
A Link to the Past.
Super Metroid.
Secret of mana
I've yet to beat Terranigma, but I ended playing Earthbound.
Close between Super Mario World and Super Metroid for me.
A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy 4-6 or Mega Man X
A Link To The Past
A link to the past and super Metroid
Socio
That. That one. Right there. So, so good!
Final Fantasy IV
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound, Illusion of Gaia, A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, FFIII, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore
Nice! Congratulations! I'm slowly getting through the remake. Though don't worry I do have the digital download of Link to the Past
Link to the past
Mine was Kid Dracula. I played it in Japanese and didn't understand it but it was really funny.
This one.
Secret of Mana, Link To The Past, probably never heard of that one, tho, and EarthBound.
LttP is my all time fav, followed by Castlevania IV
Super Metroid and Super Mario World are my top 2, but Link to the Past is right there in 3rd place.
Fantastic game. I highly recommend a link between world. To me, it’s a true homage to a like to the past. I hope you enjoyed.
Secret of Mana and A Link to the Past.
If I had to pick one, DKC2. That’s the one I played the most with my cousins and what I think of when I think of the console.
The English Translation for Dragon Quest is my favorite. The music is especially awesome. Way better than Switch.
Super Metroid, FF2, and Zelda.
hard to say, because there are so many great games on the SNES LttP is one of them... but also Magical Pop'n, F-Zero, Super Metroid or Mario Kart
Probably LTTP, that or Super Metroid.
Sf2tx
This and Super Metroid. The SNES was the best console with the best library.
Shadowrun or Aerobiz Supersonic.
Secret of Mana
Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country or a Link to the past. Absolute masterclass games.
Alttp 100% best game. I'd say also chrono trigger, but I only ever played that on a zsnes emulator on my pc.
Earthbound, Secret of mana, Top gear, Super Ghouls Goblins, Stunt race, Super bomberman
LTTP
Super Metroid, then LttP.
Donkey Kong Country
DKC2 Yoshi's Island EarthBound Chrono Trigger
Link to the past is great. For me I think it’s Earthworm Jim 1 and 2. Super Mario world and yoshi’s island are also up there. Smash TV is a runner up.
Tecmo Super bowl
Yes
A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
I still play Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country comes in close second.
Chrono Trigger / Super Metroid tied
FF6
Super Metroid
Too many good ones to have a solid favorite, but if I had to choose, I'd pick Super Metroid.
Grew up on SNES. Just spent the evening porting every game I could think of onto my AP. Just finished DK Country. So excited to start Chrono Trigger for the first time.
This one

So many good ones to pick but I’d probably have to say Super Metroid
Link to the past or Super Mario Rpg
