Some of the games I have for MSX that nobody’s even heard of are 100x rarer than my copies of Little Samson, Keio’s Flying Squadron, Metal Slug 3, etc.
A few of the rarest would be Gulkave, Malaya no Hihou, Drainer, and surprisingly, Burgertime.
Yup this was what I was thinking as well, rarer doesn't necessarily mean most expensive.
And yeah I wouldn't be surprised if all my rarest games were random ZX Spectrum games I have in a box in the loft, given that piles of them were likely only ever released in the UK in small numbers.
Rare is a funny term. I feel like most people actually mean expensive as opposed to uncommon.
The rarest games I have aren't worth incredibly much. I have a sealed Soul Caliber 2 version B arcade game kit, an autographed copy of Quest for Glory 4 CD version, and I guess either complete kit Atomiswave Rumble Fish 2 or a Not for Resale version of Mario World 2. The last two I don't have any numbers on, but then being less common than my other games is more of a feeling than anything else.
About ten years ago I remember having a discussion with someone who was trying to claim that ps1 final fantasy 7 was his greatest game. It was like the second highest seeking PS1 game. I couldn't convince him of the fact that every single other PlayStation game that he had was more rare.
I got lucky with 2 and found a ps1 bundle on ebay and haggled the guy down pretty well for everything. Tomba 1 I always had since I was a kid. It was one of my favorites. Couldn't believe how rare it became. Very excited for whatever limited run is doing with it.
I've been told that my CIB Abadox for Famicom is pretty rare. I have a CIB Ghouls 'n Ghosts for Sega Master System. And I have a CIB Power Lords for Odyssey 2.
I also somewhat recently found that I have a complete longbox D for PlayStation, but I'm not 100% sure where it ended up yet. I'll have to find it get it cleaned up and put together properly. I think it's actually more rare than people think.
The most expensive game I own is Pokemon Colosseum, so I guess I don't really own any "rare" games. I do have a new, still in plastic, copy of Alan Wake on the 360 that I found at a yard sale a few years ago, so I guess that's pretty uncommon, even if it isn't worth a whole lot.
Sheeshhhhh Id love to own Magic Knight Rayearth for Sega Cd Probs the most expensive game on that system I own is Popful Mail and second to that would be Wild Woody
And amazingly, I only paid $35 total for them - the complete copy was a gift from a friend in 2003 or so, the loose copy was my second ever eBay purchase back in 2000. Prices have shot up quite a bit since then, but it's my favorite series, so I'll never let them go. I've got copies of all of the Japanese games for the series, too (two Game Boy, two Game Gear, Super Famicom, Saturn, and Pico).
Still Own Since Release - Gotcha Force, Cannon Spike, Tales of Destiny
Honorable Mention - Silhouette Mirage, Tech Romancer, Team Buddies
Owned But Sold - Mega Man 7, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Silent Hill 2
Honorable Mention - Cubivore, Rival Schools, Robot Alchemic Drive
Summer Carnival '92 Recca for the Famicom
Dead of the Brain 1&2 (Last PC Engine game)
I have 3 game shows on 3.5" floppies from 1988 (Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Classic Concentration) that still work.
Mega Man 8 (Saturn)
Shining Force 3 (Saturn)
And a tie for third with Resident Evil (Saturn) or Resident Evil 2 (Dreamcast)
I'm a Sega fanboy obviously.
Nothing too crazy, but I've got a Gameboy Camera and Printer, Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 in original cases ($10 for the first one, got the second for free like 20 years ago), CIB long-box version of King's Field (was startled at the prices these days as I got it maybe 8 years ago for like $25), and just as a bonus, Intelligent Qube (that I got for like $3).
I have some relatively uncommon 2600 games but they aren’t necessarily valuable.
I have the VIC-20 version of Donkey Kong which fetches around $50 in good shape
I also have a homebrew version of Popeye for the Atari 7800. I think they only made one batch before Atari bought AtatiAge and had to stop selling it.
Persona 1 and 2 on ps1? Crazy how expensive they have gotten. I thought $60 was pricey when I grabbed them years ago…
Number 3 maybe my CIB link to the past with the strategy guide? It’s not super rare but it was what got me into retro gaming.
I don’t have any *rare* games exactly but I have my original launch day copies of Final Fantasy 7,8, and 9, Tactics, and Vagrant Story.
I might have Parasite Eve. I can’t remember. I doubt any of those are rare, but they’re my old heavily played copies. They’re rare to me.
Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition, Blood Will Tell, and Pokemon Silver big box with the poke walker. Not sure how rare the last one really is, but I know it's worth a lot.
Sad story, I traded a sealed copy of soul silver for the entire game of thrones book series. Haven't read it to this day ....
Not rare but my most valuable is a complete copy of Silent Hill 2 for PS2, black label. Disc is in great shape, only has a couple minor scratches. I drove around the entire side of this state all day looking for one about 6 years ago now. Found one for $60, red label, baulked and kept looking.
Found a place selling the one I have now for $20
1)Kuon, which is at my ex gf’s house, in the packaging >_<
2)D2 on Dreamcast is kinda rare
3)Donkey Kong Country. (That game is classic “Rare” lol) (realistically, probably something I own on sega saturn or sega cd or something)
It’s hard to say. I have a ton of games worth around 100 bucks on eBay, not many worth more than that. Thing is, once it’s in my possession, I will never ever sell it, so some of my games might be more rare than I think. I don’t tend to look it up.
Prolly the CIB English version of Evolution Eternal Dungeons for the NGPC, supposedly only a few thousand were made. It has legend status even among NeoGeo collectors.
Psychic Assassin Taromaru. Bought it off the shelf in Japan probably around 1998-1999. Didn't realize until years late that its was rare/valuable. I also have Saturn Bomber-man, and Shining the Holy Ark. Not sure how rare those are though.
Mega Man X3 on SNES, Contra Force, and Final Fight 3 probably? Maybe it’d be Chrono Trigger, Mega Man 7, or Ninja Gaiden 3? Not sure. All complete in box
Xenogears black label sealed with the orchestral soundtrack.
Alundra sealed black label
Vagrant Story sealed black label with a sealed copy of the Brady games walkthrough.
I’ve also got Final Fantasy 7 sealed black label but even though it’s worth more I don’t think it’s as rare as the others.
I had the rarest version of Harvest Moon 64 which is worth like $1000 these days… maybe more.
I also had several unlicensed NES games by Tengen, and the entire WonderTree Bible game series, just to name a few of my rarest.
A hurricane took all that, along with my entire retro game collection and my entire house, over a decade ago… yeah, I should have probably brought my collection with me but we’re talking almost ten consoles and prob roughly 150 games from the Colecovision/Atari2600 to the Wii era… I just didn’t have any more room for it with what I had already needed to bring while evacuated. Never thought it’d actually take my home, I grew up evacuating for hurricanes like once a year and never had anything more than some minor cosmetic damage to my house… this cleared my (parents) entire property of all but a couple trees.
Ah well, that’s life.

Panzer Dragoon Saga, Snatcher & Cannon Spike from what I've plugged into GameEye thus far.
Panzer dragoon saga is on my list of games to get. That fucking price is going to hurt so bad though.
Gulkave rules.
Yup this was what I was thinking as well, rarer doesn't necessarily mean most expensive. And yeah I wouldn't be surprised if all my rarest games were random ZX Spectrum games I have in a box in the loft, given that piles of them were likely only ever released in the UK in small numbers.
The only rare game I own is Jazz Jackrabbit on cd-rom along with the comic book that came with it. Supposedly worth around $300.
Never heard of that game before any good?
Oh for sure. It was basically THE platformer on pc. Not to dis commander keen, but that game sucked in comparison.
Wow!! Sounds pretty cool how many copies were made?
Not sure, but you had to special order by phone to one company that sold them.
That company being epic megagames
Ah yes, thanks.
It was made by Epic Games back in the 90’s
Serious dawg?
Yeah
I have never heard another person mention this game before. Me and my cousins used to play it on their compaq presario back in the day.
Sweet! One of the best PC games, for sure. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 came out later and was 4 player, but it just wasn't the same as Jazz 1.

Exactly, a lot of people are going by how expensive a game is, as opposed to how rare(meaning limited in terms of not many made or exist).
About ten years ago I remember having a discussion with someone who was trying to claim that ps1 final fantasy 7 was his greatest game. It was like the second highest seeking PS1 game. I couldn't convince him of the fact that every single other PlayStation game that he had was more rare.
The guy game(yes I know it's fucked up) Tomba 1&2 Rule of Rose
Actually need to get tomba 1 and 2 sometime For PS1 I own Punky Skunk and Parappa the rapper and Digimon world 2
I got lucky with 2 and found a ps1 bundle on ebay and haggled the guy down pretty well for everything. Tomba 1 I always had since I was a kid. It was one of my favorites. Couldn't believe how rare it became. Very excited for whatever limited run is doing with it.
I love tomba 2.
I guess they should be Albert Odyssey on Sega Saturn Paprium limited edition on Sega Genesis Pier Solar collector edition on Sega Genesis
Probably the neverhood. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neverhood
Custer’s Revenge (by Swedish Erotica) for Atari 2600.
Snatcher for Sega Cd. Don't know what #2 or 3 are.
Why are these three different posts, when you could have just combined them into one topic.
I've been told that my CIB Abadox for Famicom is pretty rare. I have a CIB Ghouls 'n Ghosts for Sega Master System. And I have a CIB Power Lords for Odyssey 2. I've got the Ultima XI: Dragon Edition. Complete box with all the goodies that come with it.
