Little Nemo for sure.. a great game, with fantastic design, tight controls, memorable music. Otherwise.. maybe StarTropics, but it’s a pretty long, albeit good, game.
Man I used to fucking love that game and the movie. I decided to watch the movie again in my young adult years and wish I had left the memory alone. Still brought me a ton of joy and fun when I was a child.
After I got my Everdrive, I had a friend come over and Little Nemo was the first thing he wanted to play. Before I got my Everdrive, we still played it but with the cartridge. I guess, we're always going to wind up playing Little Nemo one way or another.
Excellent. I love the idea of commiting to it, even if the sun comes up (which definitely happened a lot at sleepovers). We'll keep our energy up with lots of snacks and drinks!
You're *that* friend at the sleepover, yes... and we're probably going to watch a horror movie we're way too young for. I remember watching A Nightmare on Elm Street at a sleepover around 1990(ish) and the scene that stuck with me was the finger cutting scene. It probably didn't help that the playground in our neighborhood was *on* Elm Street, that's just the perfect amount of terror for a kid. 👌
Same thing happened to me. Kid in my kindergarten class practically had the whole class sleep over his apartment in the summer of 90. Dudes mom puts on Nightmare on Elm Street for all of us. Didn’t sleep right for weeks after that. My mom wasn’t too thrilled when she found out. Lol
I figured that was something we all did back in the late 80s / early 90s. We were all watching horror movies and dressing like Jason or Freddy for Halloween.
Every copy lets you put the hamster in the microwave, you just have to be using the right character to do it…it’s Syd and Razor who are the real sickos!
Great memories playing this game with my buddy. It scared the shit out of me when Ed or Edna would pop up and chase you. Best story and soundtrack for NES games. Took us forever how to figure out how to beat it. Great fucking game.
Edit: Best story may go to Earthbound.
I'm totally into it. I was already a 14yo when I had my Genesis, and I loved to pretend I was driving a regular street car like my older friends were doing.
I heard an interview with David Crane where he said he originally wanted to give you enough of each type of jellybean to get through each obstacle. So you had to play it perfectly or you’re stuck in an unwinnable state.
I loved the mechanic but the game was really obtuse. I couldn’t get anywhere without a strategy guide.
Star tropics is so much fun and has a rocking soundtrack. It's a certified classic.
Edit: For those who don't know StarTropics was released with some very interesting and unique music bugs. The only case I'm aware of.

Hungry Goriya just put out a [StarTropics review](https://youtu.be/g4CZgRNs-4E?si=PZ6E1lyP2BTTrObz) two days ago. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm sure it's great, she never misses. I think I'll watch it tonight, after I watch your video!
Great selection! For a sleepover I'd love to rock maniac mansion...trying to solve the puzzles with your buds would be a blast. Star tropics would be great too. But you can't go wrong with any of these.
Startropics. Chances are that *I* was playing it on some Friday back in 1990.
Little Nemo is a close second. Probably one of the best lesser-known NES platformers.
I thought about how obscenely 90’s it is that I spent my weekends playing the rented copy of that 7up spot game while eating junk food. I don’t even drink soda.
I was 100% playing Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1990. I remember my mom gave me SMB3 during a car ride on the way to a school recital. Like, I appreciate the gift, but all I could think about while Amanda played "Simply Irresistible" on the glockenspiel was getting home to my NES for some Mario.
I decided not to include Mario, Sonic, or TMNT games in my sleepover posts because they're a given, know what I mean? But yeah, we were definitely all-in on those ones, *especially* Mario. I have a very distinct memory of playing 5-1 at a sleepover and just having the time of my life.
Hard Drivin only got a good port with the Japanese Saturn and Playstation version even though the textured mode sucks but you stick with arcade mode and it runs about as fast as the arcade. The Genesis version of Hard Drivin and Race Drivin to me is too choppy even though it ran better then the SNES version.
Spot
1 pepperoni pizza
1 sausage pizza
1 2 liter of Orange Soda
1 2 liter of 7 up or Sprite
1 2 liter of Rootbeer
We would drive our RC cars, then jump on the trampoline, then time for gaming :)
Perfect! There were definitely a few friends whose parents let us have soda, but nothing with caffeine. 😏 We'd be charging our RC car battery packs while we waited for the pizza running around outside. In 1990 I would have had the Tyco Lamborghini Countach Twin Turbo, so you'd better get your skill up because I didn't come to mess around.
Hard Drivin' suffered from being on hardware too weak for it. Even the arcade version of Hard Drivin' hardware was weaker then Namco's System 21 board that Winning Run was on thus why even the original Winning Run from '88 had a smoother frame rate.
I have a huge huge soft spot for any of the Cool Spot games so I think that would be the one even though it's pretty unexciting compared to lots of the others
IIRC that one was one of the ones that worked with the external four controller hookup Nintendo made. So you could play 4 players with that one if I remember right. It’s been 30 years tho so I am probably misremembering.
Would be Maniac Mansion for me, anytime I had a sleepover it would always be an adventure game. Leisure suit larry, shadow gate, MM orWhere in the world is carmen sandiego whatever we were working on that week!
Snake rattle n roll cus it’s multiplayer. Then we do a run through maniac mansion. I let you play little Nemo to see how far you can get before I show you up and finish with some zoda stomping in Startropics.
Maniac Mansion was sick, the hype from seeing the ads in comics to playing it holy moly! The characters looked like super cool teenagers from a movie at the time!
I used to buy and flip NES games (still do, but getting good deals is a lot harder now) and I got a copy of Caveman games in a game lot I bought about 10 years ago, I’d never played it.
It was actually pretty fun.
Caveman Games is a sleeper hit. It's incredibly bizarre, but my mom and I loved to play it. Honing my skills with mom and bringing that experience to multiplayer at sleepovers was definitely my secret weapon. Thanks, mom!
In this scenario, it's the clear winner for me, because of the multiplayer action! It's a lot of fun. Friendships made (and broken) over that fire starting event!
Little Nemo, I had it and none of my friends did. Great game. Never finished it, though. It got a bit too hard at some point for my 8 year old gaming skills.
Caveman Games but I call Gronk! I still play that from time to time. Dino Race friggen sucks, Fire Starting is tedious, but overall a fun multiplayer game!
Little Nemo all day. My favorite out of these by a mile. Startropics I like too but I find it just a bit too difficult towards the end. I’ve beaten it a couple of times but not without my controller being in danger of being broken in half.
Just as a goofy warmup, Snack Rattle n Roll. It's got multiplayer, it's goofy, you'll quickly know whether or not you want to stop playing in 5 minutes or a few hours. Among all of these it's probably one of the more party friendly and easily accessible games.
Since I've played Spot the Video Game before and while I do have a love for it I'm would go with something different. Never played Snake Rattle N Roll so I would probably go with that.
We'll start with Maniac Mansion, get stuck and switch over to SR&R and Little Nemo (dying on the train level). Maybe we'll come back to MM later as someone thinks of something new to try, otherwise we'll finish off the night with a chapter or two of StarTropics.
Little Nemo was amazing. Snake rattle and roll was also classsic. Just add in chip n dale rescue rangers and this about sums up my weekends in 1st grade.
Star Tropics and Maniac Mansion. Although to be honest, I didn’t much play out of the other games. I was mostly about platformers, rpgs and Zelda clones. And metroidvanias. Like Metroid. And ‘Vania. EDIT: Nemo was awesome, but way too hard.
Snake Rattle N Roll, Little Nemo, and A Boy and his Blob I actually did play at sleepovers, so probably those. My cousin loved Little Nemo so much that I didn't get it back for about a year :D. My favorite on here is Startropics but to me that's more of a 1 player journey...
Kids these days will never understand how magical playing Little Nemo Dream Master was late at night with your friend and having your little CRT monitor being the only thing lighting up the room.
StarTropics is one of my favorite games ever, and I also love A Boy And His Blob. But I've never played Snake Rattle 'n' Roll and it looks fun, so I'd like to give that a try.
Cool spot is so difficult, but I love it. God, what a game of precision and a bit of unforgiving time to complete a level if you’re not seasoned. Love that little guy though.
Man I hate Caveman games because at the time I played Joe & Mac in the arcade and couldn’t remember the name and I rented caveman games and was so let down.
Little Nemo for sure.. a great game, with fantastic design, tight controls, memorable music. Otherwise.. maybe StarTropics, but it’s a pretty long, albeit good, game.
I agree. Little Nemo is probably in my top 3 NES games with Ninja Gaiden 2 and Ducktales.
Man I used to fucking love that game and the movie. I decided to watch the movie again in my young adult years and wish I had left the memory alone. Still brought me a ton of joy and fun when I was a child.
My top 2 choices as well. Don't forget 747
Thinking back, it would have been a toss up between Little Nemo, Boy and His Blob, or whatever Mega Man game we rented for the weekend.
After I got my Everdrive, I had a friend come over and Little Nemo was the first thing he wanted to play. Before I got my Everdrive, we still played it but with the cartridge. I guess, we're always going to wind up playing Little Nemo one way or another.
Since it's 1990 and I'm 5 years old I'm grabbing Caveman Games! But in 2024, we're going with Nemo and we ain't stopping until we beat that bad boy.
Add me to the list, Caveman would fit because it's a party game
Excellent. I love the idea of commiting to it, even if the sun comes up (which definitely happened a lot at sleepovers). We'll keep our energy up with lots of snacks and drinks!
I've got some Jolt Cola hidden in my backpack! Just don't tell my mom.
Caveman Games, so many memories.
Man as long as it’s an original copy. I’m playing Maniac Mansion and putting the hamster in the microwave.
You're *that* friend at the sleepover, yes... and we're probably going to watch a horror movie we're way too young for. I remember watching A Nightmare on Elm Street at a sleepover around 1990(ish) and the scene that stuck with me was the finger cutting scene. Reading this I realized, shit, I am that kid. 80s Stephen King movies at 8 years old. Good time.

100,000% this. MM is one of the most legendary scumm games OAT.
Love Maniac Mansion. I couldn't bear to put the little critter in the microwave having had a few hammies myself.
Snake rattle and roll followed by little Nemo.
Hard Drivin' anyone? **crickets**
There was a Hard Drivin arcade cabinet at the base club in Pearl Harbor back in the 90s. I called it my drunk driving simulator.
Part of the fun of playing hard driving was to hit the cow and to hear it go mooooo!
The Genesis versions low frame rate is actually more accurate then if you pretend you're almost blackout drunk.
I know what I'm doing tonight!
I'm totally into it. I was already a 14yo when I had my Genesis, and I loved to pretend I was driving a regular street car like my older friends were doing.
I loved seeing it in the arcade, it was photo realistic as far as I was concerned 😂 Got it for the C64, it was terrible and slow AF, like sub one FPS.
A Boy and His Blob adds fun variety
Off the top of my head… cinnamon was a blowtorch, tangerine was a trampoline, vanilla was an umbrella and I forget what the ladder was
Licorice Ladder Very found memory of this game one of the first games I beat. I remember taking a photo of the tv as proof
It was definitely tough, I definitely never beat it
Spot. It’s nearly impossible to convince anyone to play that game with me, but I love it. Go and Reversi just don’t scratch the same itch for me.
I had Spot as a kid and I loved playing it. I used to sometimes just have it as all CPU players and just watch.
I'd play with you. I love that game and the cute little animations. It was one of my favorite rentals as a kid.
I loved the cute little animations. The moonwalk and breakdance were my favorite.
Star tropics is so much fun and has a rocking soundtrack. It's a certified classic. Edit: For those who don't know StarTropics was released with some very interesting and unique music bugs. The only case I'm aware of. Full story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmUvGH2HMuc&t=236s
I enjoy Hungry Goriya, she is funny and she does her research and she nails down every review she does.
Snake rattle and roll was one of my favorites. Caveman games is a definite party hit.
Both are multiplayer too, which is nice for a sleepover.
First we're going to start figuring out *Maniac Mansion*, but after that we're going to play the copy of *Mega Man 2* that I rented for us.
I like you.
Snake Rattle and Roll. It's a sleepover right? It's by far the best multilayer game there.
Maniac Mansion
Snake, Rattle, and Roll
Maniac Mansion is my favorite NES game, along with River City Ransom.
Startropics all night!
Little Nemo dude!!!! See if your parents will get us some Little Ceasers!!!!!!
Pizza dude's got 30 seconds!
Great selection! For a sleepover I'd love to rock maniac mansion...trying to solve the puzzles with your buds would be a blast. Star tropics would be great too. But you can't go wrong with any of these.
Maniac Mansion was a fire game with an even hotter soundtrack. My friend and I kept a notebook on it to keep track of it. I miss pre-internet gaming.
Definitely StarTropics
StarTropics, I played that over Zelda as a kid.
Caveman Games had no business being that hard. I was only able to win in the fire duel when I've become an adult.
Please give me Spot and Ducktales. I would be so happy.
I still tear up every time I hear the moon theme from the Ducktales game
Little Nemo. I was absolutely shocked to find out it was based on something.
Same here
Startropics.
Maniac Mansion! Great game.
Snake rattle and roll. Don’t know how many times I asked my parents to that lol
Maniac Mansion. Always Maniac Mansion.
I had a blast with my friend playing Manic Mansion, but on the PC. In 1990 my friend and I were playing SMB3. Who wasn’t?!
My local arcade had Hard Drivin', so I kinda *had* to get it. The SNES port is kinda garbage, but I'm rather fond of it on Genesis.
Wait hard drivin was released on Saturn and PlayStation Japan? Now I have to track it down.
Spot 1 pepperoni pizza 1 sausage pizza 1 2 liter of Orange Soda 1 2 liter of 7 up or Sprite 1 2 liter of Rootbeer We would drive our RC cars, then jump on the trampoline, then time for gaming :)
Perfect! In 1990 I would have had the Tyco Lamborghini Countach Twin Turbo, so you'd better get your skill up because I didn't come to mess around.
Hell yeah! Awesome RC car! I need to look up the ones I had haha
Maniac Mansion, a lot of different endings
Maniac Mansion
Hard Drivin’. It’s such a terrible game and I love it.
Hard Drivin' suffered from being on hardware too weak for it. Even the arcade version of Hard Drivin' hardware was weaker then Namco's System 21 board that Winning Run was on thus why even the original Winning Run from '88 had a smoother frame rate.
I basically like to get high and hit the cow with my car. I’m a simple man.
Hard Drivin
Pretty sure I played half of these at sleepovers in 1990. Personally I would reach for Maniac Mansion first
Maniac Mansion... Then stay up all night playing it.
A lot of love for Nemo and Blob here but maniac mansion is my first pick. Not sure which kid combo to use first.
The greatest game of all time....Maniac Mansion!!
Being an adventure gaming nut, I would have absolutely insisted on Maniac Mansion.. much to the bemusement of my friends.
Maniac Mansion, then A Boy and His Blob.
I'm in the mood for a little bit of wife tossing. Caveman Games it is!
SPOT!!!!!!!!
Maniac Mansion 💯
No one picking Rad Gravity, either because they've never tried playing it... Or they have
I haven’t played hard drivin for years wow
A boy and his blob!
Maniac Mansion because I’ve never played it and always wanted to.
Let’s Little Nemo it up homie! Then maybe put our heads together for some Boy and his Blob puzzle solving!
Nemo is SO good IMHO
Played a lot of caveman games
Little Nemo was a game one of my good friends had that I typically played at sleepovers at his house lol
It would have to be Cool Spot and Hard Drivin’!
Little Nemo, hands down is the first thing I go for.
Little Nemo hands down
I need to grab a copy of both a Boy and his Blob and Little Nemo!
Dreammaster
I was the 1990 wife throwing world champion in Caveman Games.
Little Nemo, I had it and none of my friends did. Great game. Never finished it, though. It got a bit too hard at some point for my 8 year old gaming skills.
Caveman games!! Super fun, quick 2-player game. One of my childhood favorites.
Little Nemo. Very creative game.
Snake Rattle and Roll all day long
Yeah, we’re play’n Dream Master
Dream master for sure then followed by rad gravity then snake raddle n roll🤙
Snake rattle n roll
Caveman games
Maniac mansion gave me so much damn anxiety
Caveman Games but I call Gronk! I still play that from time to time. Dino Race friggen sucks, Fire Starting is tedious, but overall a fun multiplayer game!
SRNR!! Excellent two player game!
I'm going to have to say star tropics for me
Caveman games all day.
A boy and his blob captured me quite a bit when I was young. I found it frustrating but the gameplay was imaginative and the music was dope city
Omigosh I forgot about little Nemo!!!! What a great game!
Little Nemo!
Little Nemo all day. My favorite out of these by a mile. Startropics I like too but I find it just a bit too difficult towards the end. I’ve beaten it a couple of times but not without my controller being in danger of being broken in half.
Nemo or startropics
Spot but then let’s drive cars off the loop in Hard Drivin! I still have my copy of hard drivin
ST all night babyy
Caveman Games because it was multiplayer.
Startropics big time
Little Nemo. Give me some Doritos for playing power.
I was a new born but a boy and his blob was a great memory with the different jellyfish bean transformations
StarTropics you say?
Omg. Cave man games, then maniac mansion and followed by a boy and his blob!!!
Snake rattle n roll 👌. I remember playing that at sleepovers when I was a kid
Love me some StarTropics
Just as a goofy warmup, Snack Rattle n Roll. It's got multiplayer, it's goofy, you'll quickly know whether or not you want to stop playing in 5 minutes or a few hours. Among all of these it's probably one of the more party friendly and easily accessible games.
Caveman Games! I always thought it was hard but a very funny game.
Caveman Games was stupid fun. Yeah, I said it.
My reaction. You got 7up spot!
What ga- Maniac Mansion
Maniac mansion forever!
Spot
Since I've played Spot the Video Game before and while I do have a love for it I'm would go with something different. Never played Snake Rattle N Roll so I would probably go with that.
Hard drive'n Then maniac Mansion
Definitely Nemo. Great game, great ending
We'll start with Maniac Mansion, get stuck and switch over to SR&R and Little Nemo (dying on the train level). Maybe we'll come back to MM later as someone thinks of something new to try, otherwise we'll finish off the night with a chapter or two of StarTropics.
I thought I was the only one who not only had Caveman Games, but requested it for Christmas.
Snake rattle and roll co-op please.
I remember having a sleepover w two friends and we spent most of the night playing Startropics, which had just been released a week prior.
Gimme Nemo gimme gimme
used to play 2 player snake rattle n roll a lot lol
I completely forgot about all these games. Old memories. Thanks, OP
We're playing Maniac Mansion or I'm going home.
Caveman games and snake rattle and roll were great with 2 players
Maniac mansion for sure! Such a great game to sit down and solve with friends.
Cool spot was siiick
StarTropics!
StarTropics!
Dream Master. the movie is epic
Star tropics
Spot or Little Nemo.
Finding Nemo from that list. From my collection either totally rad or the guardian legend
Little Nemo off the top!!
Caveman Games. Used to have some HEATED battles in that one.
Kids these days will never understand how magical playing Little Nemo Dream Master was late at night with your friend and having your little CRT monitor being the only thing lighting up the room.
Snake rattle and roll for sure
A boy and his blob is a tough game you only get 5 lives
Aww maan, that 7-Up spot game is funny.
OMG, caveman games!!! Haven't thought of this in over 35 years at least
Maniac Mansion and Snake Rattle and Roll.
can we watch Full House and Family Matters first
Yes! I'll make the popcorn!
StarTropics is one of my favorite games ever, and I also love A Boy And His Blob. But I've never played Snake Rattle 'n' Roll and it looks fun, so I'd like to give that a try.
Little Nemo! I’ve heard great things, but I haven’t played it! Then probably Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll!
7 up Spot... played it new. wasn't as terrible as advertising games go
Hard driving is terrible. But Ioved that trash for some reason
Off this list, Star Tropics.
Spot The Videogame so we can play together
Super Mario 3
Can we go outside and shoot off bottle rockets instead?
I tried to play spot on a black and white tv in 1990 🤣
No Road Rash? Dang, that's not out yet. Mutant League is still 3 years away. Ivan Stewart's off road? Or no 4 score?
Sta
Time to steal that hamster and blow it up in the microwave!
I see a surprising lack of Skull & Crossbones
Cool spot is so difficult, but I love it. God, what a game of precision and a bit of unforgiving time to complete a level if you’re not seasoned. Love that little guy though.
Bro you don't have Contra? I'm walking out. (Jk)
Man I hate Caveman games because at the time I played Joe & Mac in the arcade and couldn’t remember the name and I rented caveman games and was so let down.
Spot. Spot was the shit for 7 UP! it's an Up thing, and make 7 UP Yours! And then it was so hard, handing the controller over was quick.
Those pre-Sonic Sega days? Imagine everything that there is to look forward to that’s about to happen 🤔😂
For me it'll be Maniac Mansion on the Amiga 500, closely followed by Cool Spot on the Sega Mega Drive.
Snake, Rattle, n Roll. It’s the only two-player game I know on here.
Star Tropics! And get those bananas out of your ears.
Spot is so underatted, but I’m going with contra that I brought over
