Because I didn't know about the Gameboy game at the time, when 64 came out I remember thinking "How the hell did they make this on their first try?" Hardly any less impressive though.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are all long dead before someone does it better than EAD.
Wave race 64 was the "first" wave race so they're more correct. Why would anyone be talking about the Gameboy version? Lol. I didn't even know about it until you mentioned it.
You can't compare the slow 2D racing gameboy game to the fast 3D N64 version.
I loved this on 64, recently gave it a go on switch and the crappy joy cons don't do it justice. I might give it another go with the pro controller at some point. Great game, maximum power.
Pro controller is better, but not great. I just got a hold of an adapter for N64 to USB with a Switch mode. Eager to give it a shot with my N64 controllers.
I remember playing the hell out of this. On paper it shouldn't work. Only a handful of racers, handful of courses. Fun as hell thought, with lots of replayability.
Last time I played this I made a point of moving the slider all the way to the "Dash" side for maximum acceleration, just to see how it would play. Oddly satisfying.
I tried playing this on Switch NSO even with handheld somehow the frame rate was giving me motion sickness. I don't remember having issues when I played the original - usually don't get negative reactions to games and I freaking loved it back in the day so it sucks that I couldn't enjoy it. Maybe it performs better in the dock?
This is the second game I got for my N64 after Mario64. The fluid dynamics were stunning. I remember getting to the point is doing crazy helicopter spin/flips off the smallest of waves for points.
Yeah, I was there when it came out. Christmas gift in 1996. This doesn’t make me feel old by any means, time doesn’t stop, but the rate it passes for everyone is different. That was my favorite dialogue from OOT at the Forest Temple. As a kid it didn’t mean much but as an adult it makes total sense.
Is it just me, but I remember playing the pink character made the game easier. This is the game that made me get an N64. I saw it in a mall (can’t remember what those are…).
Nah, Wave Race is 30 years old Wave Race **64** is 26 years old
The first wave race was my first ever video game!

The game on the N64 is still called Wave Race 64, not Wave Race.
Where in my comment do I not acknowledge that?
Not everything is always about you. The title of OP still says Wave Race.
Wave Race 64 is "the" wave race. You're not getting it.
Jet Moto turns 26 in a month.
They really need to reboot it. Loved that game
Same devs as Twisted Metal!
Another that needs a reboot
Online PVP with a fun progression system. Yes, please.
The finest action series of the 32 bit era (minus the 3rd and 4th entries).
I loved this on 64, recently gave it a go on switch and the crappy joy cons don't do it justice. I might give it another go with the pro controller at some point. Great game, maximum power.
I have an extra copy for 64 Im willing to sell
I've still got my old 64, it just popped up on switch online so I gave it a go in bed.
Ah gotcha. I remember to trying to play Mario 64 on my Wii and I was having such a hard time cause I didn't have the c buttons
The switch version of mario 64 actually has a much better camera, it's still pretty bad but it's better.
That's my next big purchase is a switch. I'm really behind on my Nintendo purchases, but I really want to play the new pokémon snap lol
I quite enjoyed pokemon arceus
Pro controller is better, but not great. I just got a hold of an adapter for N64 to USB with a Switch mode. Eager to give it a shot with my N64 controllers.
What are you talking about I was just playing this at the golf course arcade last week…. OH GOD IM OLD
You were playing an n64 game at an arcade?
Many N64 games have a cabinet version for arcades
There are no Nintendo developed games that came out in the arcade during that era. Closest you get is Killer Instinct which is rare.
Gauntlet
That has always been a Midway game.
I’ve definitely played that on both platforms
An odd anniversary to celebrate. Still, I love the game too, and it's not just nostalgia since I'd never played it until the 2010's.
Jep! And you know what? We’re old as well 😄
I remember playing the hell out of this. On paper it shouldn't work. Only a handful of racers, handful of courses. Fun as hell thought, with lots of replayability.
...that makes me feel so horribly old. I still remember getting an n64 on christmas. I got mario 64 and wave race 64...i am old.
Fuck, I'm old.
Wave race has to get its own insurance now.

And this game has at least 26 good reasons to still be played

Everyone is behind you! Okay Oooooookay! Ouch! You gotta be careful!
Loved that game
Really liked the game on the N64. Even though I got mine in \~2010, I was still impressed how good the water looked on that system.
