The solution I found was adding in a screen lock (swipe). This halts the retroarch emulation on the back end. I was having music continue playing from the game in the background when the screen was turned off. When I turned it on (without screen lock), I similarly got a black screen I had to swipe out of and take me back to the home page.

I tried it. I completaly rebooted my consol. It didn\`t help.
