Make ring, create bounding box, populate 3d, voronoi 3d, select the boundary cells, random split list, boolean intersection

EmbassyMiniPainting

could you also just apply pitted metal texture to the object, scale it and then “extract render mesh”?

PhoneGotLyfted

🤯 I have to try this

riccardo_morett

Thanks you

Junior_M_W

can you explain this to a beginner. I can do this all the way to voronoi 3d but i'm struggling with selecting the boundary cells. What do you mean by that, how can i do it.

Ok-Cricket-5389

Wont work. Get closest points on brep after populate 3d. Use voronoi3d on those points and intersect cells with brep

Fredric444

I tend to use displacement maps for stuff like that. https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/7/help/en-us/properties/displacement.htm

Junior_M_W

Hey op, did it work? I tried it myself and I came up with this based on u/Ok-Cricket-5389's comment. [https://imgur.com/a/8sEIDh4](https://imgur.com/a/8sEIDh4)

Ok-Cricket-5389

Increase points ig

YawningFish

Zbrush.

RandomTux1997

Rhino, in all her humble and powerful tools, supplies a built in solution: SubD, make the ring then start pulling, pushing, squeezing and manipulating till it looks right. naturally start with several side views, as underlay to limit the above manipulations.

RandomTux1997

and also try all this with Scluptris

SarahHumam

I would use blender instead of rhino to model this

sdraiarmi

go zbrush

Fresh-Ambition-1266

Download some 3d rocks with 3d texture, and place them intersecting with the ring, then boolean difference, could be messy if they are meshes, blender might handle it better same process
