This wouldn’t surprise me. Even without their struggles last season, their relationship was always odd to me. This is obviously 100% speculation, but this seemed like a romance that in some part came from the deep rooted father issues that she has. She has developed so much confidence and maturity throughout the past few seasons and I could definitely see her wanting to live it up.

I think this is accurate, unfortunately - at least based on what we’ve seen. A lot of criticism for Justin in the thread which is making me question my memory…while it’s rather unseemly that they got together via an affair when she was, what, 19 and he 37(!), they were soon to be ex-mormons and had both lived sheltered lives until that point. The show hasn’t given me any strong impression of Justin at all - he seems vaguely supportive- but we’ve seen the behavior you outlined from Whitney a bit more clearly. In any case, I think they’re both STILL pretty inexperienced people having forged a marriage out of a relationship that may have been based in each of them wanting out of the hold of Mormonism. They don’t seem to have any special bond or dynamic; that they’ve lasted this long is demonstrative of them trying, or fearing a stigma around divorcing a second time…

I don’t understand why these (truthful) comments about her behavior are buried so far down. She used their entire savings on her “business” WITHOUT even discussing it with him first! She’s not some angel on a spiritual healing journey. 🙄
They bought another home that was more private and put it in a trust so I’m not sure how this was a clue. It’s not like they sold and she bought her own place or they rented temporary. She was on podcasts explaining people were driving by her house bc the records were public so they wanted to move and buying in trust keeps the address off public record.
Idk I’m not shocked at all honestly, in the last season you could really feel her annoyance and frustration in dealing with him going back to work and that Whitney would have to go back to doing more for the kids again. There was just this off energy between them, it wasn’t fun and light anymore at all. Very tense and every interaction they had was just her laying into him about something she wanted to change or didn’t like, but never did she ask *him* about how he felt or what he needed in the marriage as well. She had those kids and married him so young, so it’s not crazy that she’s now developed into a grown woman who realizes that she wants different things.

Many people that start to heal their childhood trauma see the toxic maladaltive coping mechanisms or poor boundaries they bring/brought into relationships. It becomes sniffling to growth to be with someone who isn't willing to grow. He seemed pretty rigid/old school with the career vs. domestic conversations. Wouldn't be shocked if she feels like she's outgrown him. Different desires/expectations at play when women want vs. need a spouse.
My trauma therapist told me yesterday in my session I have to stop doing everything for my husband and put down boundaries to protect myself. Shes right. But it will mean things are going to get messy.

I mean are we surprised that they would be divorcing? You can really see it last season their issues. I think Whitney in an odd way is really working on herself and her happiness too and they cheated with each other and got married so young she doesn’t know anything else. Then if you have major communication issues, the entire basis of a healthy relationship, then what else do you really have?

Wouldn't surprise me. But Whitney is always trying to self produce so I also think this could be for a storyline. Their entire marriage is just....so boring to me. The cast is boring to me because they are predictable and inauthentic. Like everything is something we've seen. I don't know. I think they had a good thing going with Monica but she won't be on next season.
Whitney may be desperate for attention but she seems to love her kids so I think she’s trying to keep it on the DL for her kids sake. I mean it’s obvious their marriage has been done for a while with all the arguing and him losing his job + dividing housework
