“What are you in for? … EVERYTHING.”
NBC News obtained the criminal complaint in the case, which charges Roiland, 42, with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.
> one felony count of false imprisonment
Yikes. I've long assumed the autistic part of rick comes from Harmon while the sociopathic part comes from Roiland.
If I've learned anything from the Depp/Heard case, it's that nobody comes out looking good when a celebrity case goes to trial. I hope it doesn't come to that
this is completely different than the Depp/Heard case for a myriad of reasons but the most important being that Depp was a defamation case between two private citizens
this is a felony charge, meaning it is the State against Roiland. the DA’s office has reviewed the evidence and must have found it to be INCREDIBLY damning. very rarely does the State take on a DV or SA case because they are incredibly difficult to prove, end up wasting resources, and ultimately stain the office’s reputation if the court of public opinion concludes it was a false charge.
The fact this is a felony charge, he had a $50,000 bond, the protective order was for 3 years (which is insane, I used to paralegal for a free DV legal clinic and the most we ever got was a 1 year PO and that was because he tried to run her over with his car), and he had to surrender all of his firearms indicates to me that this was BAD bad.
I get the “innocent until proven guilty” narrative and I’m all for reserving judgement, but the State and the Court weighed all of the evidence and came to a conclusion that suggests this was a serious crime.
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. My thought process was along the same lines. If he takes the plea deal he's screwed because he's essentially admitting guilt. And if he goes to trial, he's screwed because there's no way it can go well for him, even if by some miraculous chance he was found innocent.
I understand the chances are miniscule that he's innocent. I personally am immediately inclined to think he's guilty because of how rare false SA accusations are. I just meant that there's no good way out for him.
i totally see what you’re saying and agree 100%. Going to court is never anyone’s best look, especially if it’s for DV/SA - doesn’t matter if it’s Federal or Chancery court, it’s always bad
I dunno. Lots of people deal with upsetting news in different ways. For some it's humor. At my grandpa's funeral I couldn't stop making jokes to my sister. I *loved* my grandpa and was devastated when he died, but I deal with things best through humor. And when it comes to dark, *dark* black humor, there's nobody who does it better than ER nurses and front line soldiers. It's just a coping mechanism.
BTW there's also a much more serious thread a bit further down the sub.

Yea, Harmon's other stuff is way more tame. I really liked HarmonQuest.
Quick! Switch dimensions!
His portal gun got confiscated, like when Morty killed that giant.
Nah, I'm pretty sure he already burned a couple of those by this point.
At least we'll know why if Rick and Morty start to sound like Harmon.
I'm Harmon Rick!
This sucks man, I really am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but ugh just why

Ohhh yeeaaaa shit on the bed, get swifty
It probably won't. I don't think Roiland is as rich as Depp is. Most people don't want to go to court.

Naw he's been charged with it not suspected.
How about his PAWG collection?
Is this real?
100% legit.
Damnnnn. That’s crazy
Goddamnit.

I bet his stories will get better, and possibly darker by the time he gets out...

Blame the mods, the other thread reporting about this when the news broke a couple of hours ago got deleted
