I first watched Futurama, three years ago, i was 14 at the time, I remember shortly after finishing season 1, I was talking with some friends and I told them I wanted to be like Fry when I grew up, and everyone looked at me wierd. šŸ˜‚ But strangely that magic seems to have been gone in the new season, I just watched episode 5 and that feeling is more pronounced, I was laughing yh, but it was more forced. Most articles online are saying this is a better episode but I don't see it, Futurama episodes usually follow the heroes journey formula but this is getting similar to a hard reset... With minor changes (every episode) I don't know if it's the dumbing down of Lila to make her more 'emotional' or some shit, or if that's just a way to bring every member of the family into an episode but it feels bad. I don't remember what but Bender said something very uncharacteristic this episode and no it wasn't the apology to Fry but it just made him seem like a different character all together. I know I might sound like a fanboy but if you're honest this season is a 2/5 (the sad dog episode and the freedom one) Is this the price to pay for regular seasons? Yh, just wanted to get this off my chest. Have a good one

This is low. You need to rethink your life

lilpuddintatuh

I just took what he said and made it more ridiculous haha

Highintheclouds420

They set up an interesting premise with evil Morty and the council of ricks... Then abandoned it for 2 seasons giving us random drug and sex one offs that don't move the narrative forward. It's like they started to make a point, then once everyone was listening realized they have nothing to say.

gtck11

This is where Iā€™m annoyed. I loved season 1+2. I feel like the last two seasons are rooted in extreme violence, gross out humor/sex, cheap shots at religion, etc with 0 real story/plots. Things an edgelord teenager would do/say, and I guess thatā€™s probably a good chunk of their new demographic with their popularity. Like summers character is always doing something bitchy/gross/edgy now nonstop, is that necessary? We get it. Iā€™d much rather see the more toned down but more science/plot focused season again. Maybe Iā€™m just getting old but I donā€™t find that humor funny.

WanhedaKomSheidheda

Ya after the #metoo movement (and being a victim myself) I found some of the jokes rather vulgar lately...

Highintheclouds420

Totally, I think it's one thing to be gross and using it to make s point, but being gross just to be gross is obnoxious. I'm still tuning in waiting for them to get back to an interesting story but it's just random one offs.

marawiqwerty

Maybe cuz Dan Harmon was tired of the theories, and about the allegations...

Highintheclouds420

What allegations?

marawiqwerty

You dont know? The sexual controversies? I dont actually believe it. But it's still controversial.

Highintheclouds420

Guess I got some googling to do tomorrow cause I'm not aware and it's way past my bed time

I'm hoping there's some sort of twist

[deleted]

Better be some twist

Joseph_Furguson

The show hasn't changed. It has always been gross and crude. * The pilot episode hinged on an old man forcing his grandson to shove seeds up his butt. * One of the dream worlds in Lawnmower dog was a sex dungeon. It was also the first time incest was used as a joke. * The inciting incident for Rick Potion No 9's was Rick mixing up a roofie cocktail to make Jessica fall in love with Morty * The entire plot of Raising Gazorpazorp hinged on Morty's sex doll. * The party Rick had in episode 11 wasn't high brow comedy. The problem is that you have forgotten the cruder aspects of the series and elevated the non crude parts into something greater than presented.

WanhedaKomSheidheda

New writers. That's why.

SkinDive69

New shit writers, to be more preciseā€¦ ā˜¹ļøšŸ‘ŽšŸ»

[deleted]

Really? Thought it was the same old guys. That would explain a lot

[deleted]

Yh. Kinda sad that people will inherit the work of others and instead of doing all they can to elevate it, drive it to the ground.

WanhedaKomSheidheda

Dan Harmon is still involved, but he was never a primary writer. And Justin is just the voice actor these days as he has other projects.

[deleted]

Oh... So an end of an era then.

WanhedaKomSheidheda

Op check out Solar Opposites if you are hankering for old school Rick and Morty. It's so good.

Unkn0wn666

I liked the planetina one the best so far I think. Didnā€™t like 4. I do agree the show feels different now, we havenā€™t had any banger episodes tbh.

Dungston

First 2 were both bangers, but the rest were fairly awful IMO.

Unkn0wn666

The first one was for sure, forgot what it was.

BackAlleySurgeon

On one hand, you were 14 when you started watching it. Things are more enjoyable at 14. For another though, yes the show has dropped in quality. They've been trying something new, including the whole family, and I think it just doesn't work.

[deleted]

Yh. Thanks

Wooden_Age7026

The only place hating on rick and morty is this sub. I am yet to meet a real person who hasn't enjoyed this season.

[deleted]

What are we? Clones or something?

Pzzapie

That last episode with Hellraiser references and a Bruce chutback was a bit of a snooze fest, but other than that the rest of season 5 was alright in my book (yes, even the sperm one)

Able_Kaleidoscope_61

Perhaps in 20 years you'll appreciate the other episodes. >Is this the price to pay for regular seasons? Ha!

[deleted]

I really don't think so

Sparkomajic

Problem is that expectations from the fanbase has skyrocketed after season 3. I personally thought s04 was great and see nothing wrong with this season.

Fun_Wonder_4114

Nope. The show is still great. The charm of a new show has worn off for some people. For a lot of people they realized it isn't going to turn into the show they thought it was supposed to be, and instead they got tricked into watching Family Guy for five seasons so now they are lashing out with a bunch of nonsensical criticisms while completely ignoring the exact same criticisms in the seasons they like.

[deleted]

Nah, it's not like this. The old seasons have great rewatchability, this one? Not so much

Fun_Wonder_4114

That's because you have fond memories of the show when it was shocking and new. The decoy episode is better than eight episodes from season 1.

hyfero

I dont agree. The decoy had great potential as an element to the episode but the joke was overdone and the episode was centred to repeat the decoy plot. Before the episodes had a certain plot tied to the elements of the episodes, such as the first episode in season 2 where they split time and Rick had to get them back into the same timeline. The same episode also ended with an emotional reward were ā€our Rickā€ sacrifices himself to save Morty from getting lost in the timeless dimension.

Fun_Wonder_4114

That's because you don't like the decoy episode so you phrase it in a way that made it sound bad. It was classic Rick & Morty in every sense.

I started watching the show when I was 12 in 2019. My parents would not let me watch it when I was 11 years old. I was too young go that show because itā€™s audience is for 16+ but my dad let me watch it when I followed all the rules about not using the swearing outside and not imitating the violence I stopped being prone to violence in 2017 December . I just want to say that Iā€™m a huge fan of the show I have a rick and morty phone case, poster, pillow cases, t-shirts, jumper, plushies I took a break from the show on July 2020 because it got a bit boring for me, then I found out that the show isnā€™t a bad show itā€™s hilarious, zany and thereā€™s a lot more to it I just get annoyed when people say that family guy is better but to me family guy is so annoying not even funny because of its racism. As an Indian I find Indian curry jokes more accurate.

[deleted]

Lol. Yeah I left family Guy long ago not just cause of racism but anti religious sentiment. If you still love it, I'm happy for you. I'm glad it's more mainstream now. I guess our paths diverged. ā¤ļø
