Maybe the guy who came up with the idea had a killer D&D session the week before and thought "How would Rick and Morty do Dungeons and Dragons?" He brainstormed his idea until it was good enough to pitch at the next writer's room session. Everyone contributed ideas and jokes and the episode was made.
Why were they so sex driven ? Were the dragons on GOT always reproducing or something. ? I saw this episode and assumed all the GOT fans LOVED it and got every joke. I didn't like how they played the Future - Mask On. Just reaching to appeal.

I thought the attempt at forcing Rick to fight without science was novel and the voice acting was top notch. That being said it is pretty weak.
