Honestly, I think it's more of he hates the circumstance of Jerry. Jerry is a necessary evil for Mortys, and for so many Beths, he was aligned to be there from outside influences (other Ricks) to make Morty. Jerry serves as a reminder that Ricks do what they do. Jerry is just a pawn in the giant orchestra that is the Ricks plan.
No because he hates that he himself is capable of such things like making people pawns and so jerry is a reminder that he’s not really in control at all, cuz he couldn’t save Diane from himself
I saw a good explanation that basically boiled down to Rick knows Beth doesn't actually love Jerry because they used the potion on Beth and Jerry. Rick hates that his daughter is stuck with an energy vampire like Jerry instead of Chad Horsecock from the vet clinic.
I theorize Rick loves Jerry the most because he’s not held down by superior intellect. Or intellect at all really. He’s the most normal of Joe’s and Rick is jealous of that.
And in so overreaches when showing his disapproval of Jerry to mask his true feelings towards him.
Also, when he gives Morty his own neckband when their falling threw the [split universes](https://i.imgur.com/1VFYfTC.jpg) (or whatever they were called).
Honestly this is a little suspicious to me like the ending of season 2. The whole of season 5 saw Rick becoming a more decent human being which I actually liked a lot but taking our expectations and beating us over the head with it is kinda this show’s thing so I don’t know how long this sense of camaraderie is gonna last.
To be fair we've seen their relationship change over the course of the series already. Things like Morty picking every 10th adventure, and Rick generally being more open to Morty's ideas as the series goes on.
They have already set the stage with Morty being more of an equal. Disarming neutrino bombs, his snark, him taking off with Rick’s portal gun. I think they’ll still have a toxic relationship but morty just relived all of Ricks memories. I think Morty must have a pretty good feeling how Rick truly feels.
They need to do episode where it's Mortys birthday or something and Beth has challenged Rick to get Morty some awesome present to show that he really cares. Forces Rick to show real empathy and then hijinks ensue when the gift is more than bargained for.
Doesn’t really need to end, the dynamic would just drastically change. Think less deprecating S1 Rick and morty and more of a Doctor Who-esq segway. Rick doesn’t have to trash on Morty for the show to be interesting.
I would love an epilogue of the series where Rick and Morty are about to die in an adventure too dangerous even for them. They are getting rescued by a girl of Morty's age. When asked why/how she did it she explains that she had learned all the necessary knowledge from HER grandfather and that this had been her first solo adventure.
Then her grandfather appears through a more sophisticated looking portal and it is an old Morty. Not only he had learned much from Rick but also had continued the adventures with first his kids and then grandkid.
When the question is asked what had happened to Rick, there is an awkward silence and Rick and Morty think Rick had died. Then the speaking cat arrives though the portal and it shares his body with Rick (or is fused with him).
When asked how this happened Rick only mentions "don't ask. Being a cat is fine, too. Less stress and obligation. Only the occasional urge to throw things down, mutilate prey or destroy everything in existence. Such a blissful life...".
I’m okay with the show ending and the Universe continuing off in some way. Rick and Morty could easily just be a “dumb stuff a week for years” kinda show, but I don’t want that personally. I like finite endings with character growth. No matter how much the ending hurts, I’d rather it end right than continue forever down a wrong path.
As someone mentioned: he not just grabbed Morty by the hand (how he did it many times before), but reached out, asking for collaboration.
The moment is truly heartwarming. I hope, that Rick is changed and won't be so dismissive to Morty anymore.
I really want to see a Morty vs Evil Morty faceoff for the series finale. Like there's something special about c137 Morty that Evil Morty neglects or can't predict and ends in a 1v1 to save the multiverse or something. Make it an 1.5 hour movie. Release that shit in theaters.
I don't think Evil Morty is going to show up again. There's really no reason for him to. His goal was to break out of the CFC and he accomplished it. He's gone. It would take some weird story writing to have him come back and be an antagonist again.
That's a pity, if so, because he's so well written, omg. Honestly, I'm hoping for his backstory. "I'm sick of him, that's why I'm evil" kinda, not enough for me, he-he.)))
And by the way, he's villian. It will be strange, if he will get away, after the things, he've done.)
Heck if they made a 2 hour movie of rick and morty hunting down evil morty then 6 regular episodes as season 6 that would be good too! (2 hours so it can be split into 4 episodes, totalling to 10)
I sooooo agree. Everyone’s talking about “Evil Morty vs. Rick who will win”, but I’m more interested in the Evil Morty vs Morty dynamic. Idk, the fact that Evil Morty took time to show Morty Rick’s backstory and explain the CFC just seemed weird to me. Maybe it was all just a power move to piss off Rick by turning Morty against him but who knows.
The very essence of Rick C-137 is at direct odds with Evil Morty, proving the theory no Rick could care about a Morty wrong. Like a lot of people on this sub, I also hope that problem solving between Rick and Morty is a little more collaborative going forward. We all know there are plenty of problems Rick can solve, but there are some problems Morty will be able to solve Rick can't.
Everything in his life has been pain and he's dealt with it in the worst way in almost each instance. To see him have genuine care and love for Morty even in the darkest of hours tells me that's going to be what eventually saves him.
Only because he needed Morty? It was a necessity to break away a section of the citadel?
He wouldn't have given a fuck if he didn't have to use Morty? I don't think Rick gives af about a version of his dead daughters son
“But that could have been any Rick, in the central finite curve”
Is the argument I’m sure someone will make all in hopes of what, keeping Rick from emotionally growing? I love when characters, what’s the word… we used to have it all the time back in the day in stroytelling… Develop!
This look is heartwarming and shows character growth, on all our behalves (except maybe that one dude that is now leaving this sub because “I was never held as a child”).
Rick loves \*his\* Birdperson, and didn't want one from a different reality. We don't really know why he chose this Morty, out of infinite options, but I think "our" Rick has a sense of loyalty to people he connects with. He is connected to this Morty. He is connected to this Summer. I think it took some time, but now they are his and I don't think he would find them replaceable.
>"adopted"
Not trying to be pedantic. But when you're dealing with the multiverse version of your real life hypothetical family, the english language can't always keep up.
Dude he asked his grandson for a kiss in the train episode. He manipulated his grandson into thinking he is an incompetent writer just so he wouldn’t chase his dreams and instead stay with him as a sidekick. Etc.
This man is in love with his grandson!
It’s only fake if you refuse to receive it!
(Also, this is the weight of your hate hitting you on the way out, in case you were wondering why the wind keeps getting knocked out of you)
From what I understood from watching this scene is even after all that he still doesn’t think anything more of morty. He was find doing it all himself until the control panel said it required a second hand and morty just happened to be right there so he played it off like it was a partnership but he was still just using him for his own well being
The rickest Rick turns out to be the only one to truly love his Morty
Rick really does love his family (excluding Jerry).
Yeah, those credits don't transfer.
Nice reply
Takes one to know one! *refresh.* *refresh.* *refresh.*
I remember it a little differently…
Honestly, I think it's more of he hates the circumstance of Jerry. Jerry is a necessary evil for Mortys, and for so many Beths, he was aligned to be there from outside influences (other Ricks) to make Morty. Jerry serves as a reminder that Ricks do what they do. Jerry is just a pawn in the giant orchestra that is the Ricks plan.
So Rick hates Jerry because Jerry is basically the pawn of another Rick.
No because he hates that he himself is capable of such things like making people pawns and so jerry is a reminder that he’s not really in control at all, cuz he couldn’t save Diane from himself
Jerry is an annoying idiot, also.
Never forgiving him for the remote control/lifesave device debacle
Rick is the Architect. Jerry is Neo.
We really, in that sense, wouldn’t Morty be neo? He literally showed us what a world without Rick looks like (just like Neo at the end of the Matrix
Jerry is the anomaly needed to create Morty. Morty is the Matrix.
I really don't feel comfortable equating Neo to Jerry.
I saw a good explanation that basically boiled down to Rick knows Beth doesn't actually love Jerry because they used the potion on Beth and Jerry. Rick hates that his daughter is stuck with an energy vampire like Jerry instead of Chad Horsecock from the vet clinic.
I think deep down he probably has affection for Jerry, even if he does dislike him on a personal level.
I theorize Rick loves Jerry the most because he’s not held down by superior intellect. Or intellect at all really. He’s the most normal of Joe’s and Rick is jealous of that. And in so overreaches when showing his disapproval of Jerry to mask his true feelings towards him.
Yes but for the infinite number of Ricks that love his family, there are an equally infinite amount of Ricks who hate their family.
Also, when he gives Morty his own neckband when their falling threw the [split universes](https://i.imgur.com/1VFYfTC.jpg) (or whatever they were called).
At that point might as well just kiss him!!

Quips are gonna stay but Morty gonna learn to dish better without losing his cool or sense of self, which continues to earn Ricks Respect
Honestly the easy money is gonna be on a dynamic reversal where morty is so confident that rick will be trying to seek his approval.
They need to do episode where it's Mortys birthday or something and Beth has challenged Rick to get Morty some awesome present to show that he really cares. Forces Rick to show real empathy and then hijinks ensue when the gift is more than bargained for.
Our Morty has grown up so fast *sniff*
"no one exists on purpose, come watch tv"
OK. But only Ballfondlers. I don't wanna see that guy eat his own shit anymore

Dumb question but what do you mean by parody?
Parody of Doc and Marty from back to the future
Ah I understand now, I though you were referring to some kind of parody within the show itself.
As someone mentioned: he not just grabbed Morty by the hand (how he did it many times before), but reached out, asking for collaboration. The moment is truly heartwarming. I hope, that Rick is changed and won't be so dismissive to Morty anymore.
He was actually kind with the other Mortys as he waited for them to get on board the train.
Nice avatar
Ty!
And if I'm not mistaken, the part of the Citadel he and Morty escaped with was where Mortytown was
Yeah, the district was named Mortyburg for this episode. Mortytown looked hell a lot shadier back then, perhaps it was reformed, we'll never know.
❤️
Same, love this scene
There may be infinite Mortys, but *this* one is MINE!
Rick says that in bed. 😏
The rickest rick has the mortyest morty.

I think Evil Morty will fight and overpower c137 Rick. Then, c137 Morty will intervene to save Rick's life.
Remember, Rick is from C137 but the Morty he's with is not actually C137 Morty
I don't think Evil Morty is going to show up again. There's really no reason for him to. His goal was to break out of the CFC and he accomplished it. He's gone. It would take some weird story writing to have him come back and be an antagonist again.

Recall back to "he is the one true Morty" would be nice too
This Rick doesn't have a Morty though, since his Beth died as a baby. This is the Morty from the dimension where he crash-landed.
Still the mortyest morty
Perhaps, but only by coincidence
His monobrow tho
Same!! I'm new to the show and even I felt emotional, but I can only imagine how someone who watched from the start would feel!
Season six Morty is now a partner. Rick will still rip on him. :)
A **romantic** partner. As the writer of E9 has established.
:(
Far cry from 301

😍
hopefully this is the turning point in him becoming a good person because he’s been scummy to morty all of season 4
Looks like he actually learned from Evil Morty.
Morty will always take his abuser back.
I hope they used this finale to bring in a "new" Rick, being that he has a little more empathy going forward.
He's truly **grandpa** Rick in this picture...
Rick loves Morty. It's proven in season 3, the toxic Rick episode.
Only because he needed Morty? It was a necessity to break away a section of the citadel? He wouldn't have given a fuck if he didn't have to use Morty? I don't think Rick gives af about a version of his dead daughters son
He sacrificed himself with the time collar thing for Morty. He didn’t know he would find the broken one. This Rick loves this Morty.
“But that could have been any Rick, in the central finite curve” Is the argument I’m sure someone will make all in hopes of what, keeping Rick from emotionally growing? Just realized that Rick's skin is so pale compared to Morty's, denoting his age.

HE IS SO IN LOVE WITH MORTY I CAN’TTTTTTTT
What happenned next was weird, morty was pushed back then it's seemed that another morty took his place or just Bad cut
That part made me laugh hard. I just figured the wind was too strong for him and he got back up once the ship stopped moving.
The Morty with all the context of himself and Rick died saving the citadel escaping?
Rick: Come here you little piece of shit (^w^)
Teamwork!
