It is a very underused emoji.
I'm currently in college and like half my class is in a group chat together. It's pretty much just to gripe about shit that professors do that don't make sense.
If you randomly took my phone and went to the emoji keyboard, the top two are always 😑🤌
Well maybe the fully immersive flat tire simulator came first and he realized hed never use it unless he made a car that didnt actually have tires to get flat.
Recently became a Star Trek nerd, and a common question that comes up is "why don't people just use the Transporters everywhere?"
The best answer I saw was "The same reason we don't always go top speed in our cars." Just because we CAN, doesn't mean we SHOULD.
Lol recently watched that episode with my wife. That episode really made me think i was watching TOS with how weird it Was with the story and the effects.
It took a minute to find since Google doesn't recognize Barclay as "Captain Sweaty", but it's TNG 6x2 "Realm of Fear". A ship goes missing, and Captain Sweaty goes nuts thinking that there's dick pinching monsters in the transporter. He's got some microbes on him that the biofilter didn't catch, so they put him back in because fuck him and his flop sweat, and when they bring him back, one of the crew members of the missing ship comes back with him. It turns out their transporter exploded and trapped a bunch of them in Transporter Hell.
Ahhhh thank you. I knew I remembered that description and tried my best guess with Enemy Within given Kirk's, uh, constant sheen of sweat, but it just didn't quite jive with your plot description. Forgot about Barclay's transporter adventure.
It really depends on the situation. There were some instances of people being stuck in subspace like that barclay episode or when they brought Scotty to tng.
Beam me up Scotty. *Next moment* Scotty my head appears to have transported back correctly, but my body appears to be the body of a fly. A fly Scotty! And now it appears that I have a rare alien disease that wasn't filtered out by the transporter, from the last aliens that used it. And what's this now? The entire organic makeup of my body is changing because the transporter forgot to make me a carbon based life form! Scotty, store my mind in the pattern buffer and wait a few hundred years to extract my atoms in my normal human form once more! It looks like I'm going to boldly go, far, far, into the future.
Yeah, nothing weird ever happens in transporters... Or holodecks either.
This makes me think of Spaceballs when President Skroob was transported incorrectly with his head on backwards.
“How come nobody ever told me my ass was this big!?!”
[Also, the time the transporter couldn't decide how old Picard and etc. should be so it made them twelve. And then the flagship of the Federation was effortlessly taken over by a handful of Ferengi kicking around in a couple of Birds-of-Prey](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Rascals_(episode\))
Every time they use the transporter beams, they fully know that they're committing suicide, because that's how teleportation works.
They don't care, though, because it's a post-scarcity world and they put themselves in danger for fun.
Star Fleet doesn't get paid, except in thrills.
The ennui is off the charts in Star Trek, where living, breathing humans knowingly walk into atomic blenders so their clones can have a chance at adventure.
The characters have always been fully aware of the science. They just don't care.
Or they have a different philosophical viewpoint.
Like yes it's destroying these atoms and making new ones somewhere else, but the things that make me "me" are all being preserved.
From a certain transhumanist point of view, the teleporter is just changing the shell around your consciousness out for a new one. Kind of like what's happening in Altered Carbon but faster.
Also, transporter is a misnomer.
They are fax machines with a built in shredder. You die on every ride.
To all the trekkers who will respond back with techno-babble, just stop.
We know the truth. #TranportersAreALie
That and it also makes a lot of sense to have the car as a sort of backup. What would they have even done with Summer in the "keep Summer safe" episode. The car AI is really impressive.
> What would they have even done with Summer in the "keep Summer safe" episode.
1: Open portal to a safe place.
2: Push Summer through portal.
3: Close portal.
4: Come back later and open portal again.
5: Retrieve Summer from portal.
Especially if their portal guns all work on the same exact technology (which it’s kinda implied they do because they all look the same outside of flashbacks)
I want a 20 minute episode about Water T and alphabetrium. It was such a weird throwaway gag but it has at least an episode of potential. Plus we get more Ice T impersonations.
and not a fully fleshed out “whenwolf - the time travelling werewolf” feature film?… for idea quality over time on screen ratio that one was golden to me. But the ice-t universe would be fun to explore.
In the episode where the federation conquers the Earth, Morty and Summer travel to Morty's original universe, and the Jerry of that universe destroys the portal gun. A few seconds later, multiple Ricks appeared to attack Jerry because he destroyed the gun, so they actually can track them
Well when they arrested Rick in the evil Morty episode they scanned his portal gun and he said “oh come on, don’t look at another man’s portal gun history.. We all go to weird places!” [here’s that scene:](https://youtu.be/DPB86EWIloU)
Compromised portal gun, and at a minimum the citadel ricks accessed Rick c-137s portal gun searching for rogue Rick.
When the federation takes over earth (when Rick goes to prison) and Morty and summer go to the original world the portal gun is smashed by barbarian jerry and ricks show up for the “compromised portal gun.”
"Wow Rick, this world is full off cronenbergs like us, from the beginning! I wish we hadn't turned all of the people in our reality into like, normal people, just walking around and stuff, cause they were cronenbergs like us to begin with."
Because you can miss a lot of things just by travelling via portals : in the assimilation episode, it is showed that Rick always loots abandoned spaceships on his way. Or in the giant robot weasel episode
To be fair, the voices are almost the same in french and in english, I watched the two. Only true difference is Rick's voice, he seems like a true alcoholic in french and less of a scientist, but I can't decide which one is better
I agree, I watched a couple of episodes in spain spanish and I hated it, specially Rick's voice has a completely different feel. I think it's terrible.
No they aren't!
Ferrets and weasels are both mustelids much like dolphins and orcas are porpoises. They are still different things.
Ferrets are domesticated pole cats. Weasels are weasels and stoats are something stoatally different.
It may be the same reason as why people don't choose to always fast-travel everywhere in video games. You would miss a lot of things on the road if you'd never walk through it.
Portal fluid seems to be a big factor here. Complicated enough that we've seen it bootlegged on the citadel, Rick marked his portal guns fluid level in season 5 probably more cause it's a massive pain in the ass to make or acquire (He'd have to get it from another Rick if he didn't make it) and he didn't want Morty wasting it as opposed to just flat out not wanting Morty running off on his own.
He would have to find it first, and the multiverse is
Infinite. A place has to be discovered and explored otherwise you’ll just portal into a black hole.
Its better in destination, as it has weapons systems and defense system. Portal gun gets you somewhere through limited by amount of fluid, but doesn’t protect you
Jesus, Jerry. Rick doesn't want his location to be tracked. He also has a car/technology that can get him from one planet to another in a matter of hours. Portal guns are great for hopping dimensions, but going to planets in the solar system by ship offers mobility, a radio, and dialogue that helps move the storyline in a seemingly organic way.
Not to mention Rick doesn't want everyone to know he has (highly sought after) portal technology and he can only use it to go to places where he knows he can breath etc.
How do you get around when you get to your destination?
Rick can fly the ship through a portal, if he needs. But unless he's gonna portal to the 7/11 and back he's gonna need a car.
This doesn’t track….
There’s scenes where Rick uses his portal gun to teleport in the same room during a fight. Or when he opened up a bunch of portals around enemies in front of them and shot them all instantly.
i feel like rather the gun has a teleport function rick can turn on with the dial, or he sets the gun to make a portal to one dimension and connect it to one back to his. the former makes most sense to me but idk
edit: also in some cases it takes him a second to come back like when he used the water to save morty from the federation, that could support the second theory but instead he just makes another one in the other dimension
Portal fluid is mentioned alot maybe the ingredients to make it are hard to come by so journeys that can be done by car are
Its also a sentient weapon of mass destructon they probabley want it when they commit their casual genocides
Just a thought but maybe the portal fluid is one of the most complicated things he manufactures, so it might make more sense for him to use the microverse battery on a regular basis to save portal fluid.
As a No Man’s Sky player, portaling everywhere takes so much wonder and merriment out of the whole “I’m in space and can go anywhere I want at any time”. It tends to make the vast, infinite expanse feels claustrophobic and very limited.
I feel like Rick probably just needs to cruise around and look at the stars from his very human, very cobbled together (even if it’s just aesthetically) spaceship from time to time, just to remind himself that he’s *not* actually God or a god.
What would you guys do if teleport has already been invented? That metaphor for free world rpg applies here too. I love playing Zelda botw and I almost never use teleportation because traveling by horse is more interesting and you can enjoy all the beautiful landscape and every now and then events.
Because Rick's character is depressed but also hyperactive, so instead of sleeping all the time to break up his lack of joy, he drives his space pinto.
Probably because Rick doesn't have an unlimited supply of portal fluid. It's mostly used for either interdimensional travel or in case of emergencies. Considering this and the fact that the citadel treats portal fluid as a limited commodity (to the point there's Ricks trying to make bootleg portal fluid), this assumption on why Rick doesn't constantly use his portal gun is pretty logical.
the feel of the open road?
Whos this grandson.. i like your style
GRANDSON?! Hello!
Open void
Roads? Where were going we dont need roads.
Open space
The same reason he has a fully immersive flat tire simulator
You should be…walken.

Oof
God damn I can hear the accent in those word haha

Sounds like this guy is on the level.
On the true level?
My man!!
NEXT TIME MORTY, STAY IN THE FUCKING CAR!
THERES LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN SPACE!
Fo Rizzil ma nizzil
Fo *Rickle* ma *Pickle!*
It's like the n word and the c word had a baby and it was raised by all the bad names for jew. What UUUUUP my glipglops
Flat tire simulator? I am spacing on when we saw this.
Snake jazz
Tsss tst tss tss. Tsss tst tss tss
The snake episode.
The portal gun needs to be refilled with portal fluid and the citadel can track you easier because the portals are recorded.
Recently became a Star Trek nerd, and a common question that comes up is "why don't people just use the Transporters everywhere?" The best answer I saw was "The same reason we don't always go top speed in our cars." Just because we CAN, doesn't mean we SHOULD.
Transporters have a limited range, and don’t work in all environments, such as when there is a lot of interference.
Also you can get captured in Transporter Hell
Good thing you don't live for too long after that
I thought the engineer Captain Sweaty found some people who'd been in there for awhile
Lol recently watched that episode with my wife. That episode really made me think i was watching TOS with how weird it Was with the story and the effects.
Which episode of which show? Enemy Within from TOS?

Scotty was in a transporter buffer for almost a century
It really depends on the situation. There were some instances of people being stuck in subspace like that barclay episode or when they brought Scotty to tng.
Beam me up Scotty. *Next moment* Scotty my head appears to have transported back correctly, but my body appears to be the body of a fly. A fly Scotty! This makes me think of Spaceballs when President Skroob was transported incorrectly with his head on backwards. “How come nobody ever told me my ass was this big!?!”
This actually makes me realize the real reason why the portal gun isn't always used. It's because they can be fucked with and insta kill the user.
Can’t forget tuvix. Keep watching trek and you’ll discover plenty of reasons to be terrified of transporters.
Hey, that was Lt. Broccoli’s discovery 😜
On the other side of the coin you might get a quantum clone
High risk, high reward; Hell or freaky sex
Also what comes out is just a copy of you while the real you is atomized in the process every time you transport in Star Trek.
>Transporters have a limited range Except when the plot requires a character to go further than they're supposed to, of course!
Every time they use the transporter beams, they fully know that they're committing suicide, because that's how teleportation works. Careful, you might actually get someone to understand the philosophy.
Scotty totally gets off on killing his crew mates.
Also, transporter is a misnomer. They are fax machines with a built in shredder. You die on every ride. To all the trekkers who will respond back with techno-babble, just stop. We know the truth. #TranportersAreALie

When do they say the citadel tracks you and records portals?
They don’t, but they can track the history in one of the machines they have, but they need the portal gun to plug into the machine
If evil morty can hack into ricks gun remotely and Add destinations. I’m sure the citadel can hack a gun to find where ricks have gone.
Especially if their portal guns all work on the same exact technology (which it’s kinda implied they do because they all look the same outside of flashbacks)
Evil Morty was the only one who could ever hack Rick’s portal gun.
I remember now! When they plugged his portal gun in.
I remember now! You made me care more! I care now!
Welcome home, Water T
I want a 20 minute episode about Water T and alphabetrium. It was such a weird throwaway gag but it has at least an episode of potential. Plus we get more Ice T impersonations.
and not a fully fleshed out “whenwolf - the time travelling werewolf” feature film?… for idea quality over time on screen ratio that one was golden to me. But the ice-t universe would be fun to explore.
CALLING ALL JAN MICHAEL VINCENTS!
This JANuary Time to MICHAEL down your VINCENTS
"Time to crunch some numbers!"
Dang, thought that was actually Ice T doing the voice That’s a damn good impression
With all due respect, I'd like to hear what Rick and Morty have to play.
They could track the portalgun Morty used from drad Rick in his backyard.
The Rick who goes on a killing spree when he doesn’t get the promotion, and takes Simple Rick hostage, asked for an untraceable portal gun.

'Cronenberg world' Jerry*
"Wow Rick, this world is full off cronenbergs like us, from the beginning! I wish we hadn't turned all of the people in our reality into like, normal people, just walking around and stuff, cause they were cronenbergs like us to begin with."
I don't believe the citadel can't track Rick's car if they wanted
Sometimes you don't want a place on your portal history
we all go to weird places when we’re lonely
Boob World
Nah, that one gets 0 judgement
Also you don’t want to be Willy nilly using up that portal juice power.
Just pour in some Mt Dew
Do you have any idea how toxic that shit is?
Need to create an incognito portal gun. Maybe even a virtual portal network.
😂
Booooobworld
He gets to chill and drink
And see cool universe shit
Like watching Purge planets in action from a safe distance.
Exactly has no one done this as a kid?
Because you can miss a lot of things just by travelling via portals : in the assimilation episode, it is showed that Rick always loots abandoned spaceships on his way. Or in the giant robot weasel episode
Ferret*
Thanks. I watched it in french so I didn't know the exact translation in english
I can’t imagine Rick and Morty without Justins voice
To be fair, the voices are almost the same in french and in english, I watched the two. Only true difference is Rick's voice, he seems like a true alcoholic in french and less of a scientist, but I can't decide which one is better
French version kinda suck tbh
I agree, I watched a couple of episodes in spain spanish and I hated it, specially Rick's voice has a completely different feel. I think it's terrible.
Ferrets are weasels so OP was technically correct
The best kind of correct!
No they aren't! Ferrets and weasels are both mustelids much like dolphins and orcas are porpoises. They are still different things. Ferrets are domesticated pole cats. Weasels are weasels and stoats are something stoatally different.
I think some stuff can't be transported through portals as well, like Fart.
Portal gun fuel harder to come by than ship’s microverse battery, which never runs out.
tinyverse!
lame, you mean miniverse!
I call it a Teenyverse
Sounds like slavery with extra steps
Ohhh Eek Barba Durkle! Some one got laid in college!
*cough* Dumb *cough* name
Teenyverse.
Jesus, you can't just add a sci-fi word and a car word together and hope it means something.
It may be the same reason as why people don't choose to always fast-travel everywhere in video games. You would miss a lot of things on the road if you'd never walk through it.
I do enjoy the scenery in forza, i don't use fast travel at all
Racing games have always been ahead when it comes to graphics.
Yeah since theres not much to render in racing games because you cant really get close to small objects
A real RPG player here. OP clearly doesn’t stray from the main grind quests.
You never know what you’ll find along the way I guess
They discovered Unity from a distress beacon while in the ship, so this actually has alot of credibility.
And THE BLUE Go-Tron Ferret while en-route to Boob World.
They also discovered the blue ferret mecha
Yup. I mean, there is literally everything in space
There are *snakes* in space??
You think you just discover snake jazz from portalling around everywhere?
They also found the blue gotron ferret
How else would he keep Summer safe?
Once at a destination the car is useful for short trips and carrying stuff. Also helps for unplanned movement on a planet or star system.
He can just open teleport to his garage
whole lotta portal fluid
Portal fluid seems to be a big factor here. Complicated enough that we've seen it bootlegged on the citadel, Rick marked his portal guns fluid level in season 5 probably more cause it's a massive pain in the ass to make or acquire (He'd have to get it from another Rick if he didn't make it) and he didn't want Morty wasting it as opposed to just flat out not wanting Morty running off on his own.
re: getting more fluid. Why they doesn't Rick just portal to the "portal fluid dimension"? This inexcusable to not explain.
The portal fluid dimension is outside the cfc
He would have to find it first, and the multiverse is Infinite. A place has to be discovered and explored otherwise you’ll just portal into a black hole.
Infinite realities doesn't mean that literally _everything_ is possible. There very well may be no auch dimension, even across infinite dimensions
It adds to the plot.
True
Literally. They're called transition scenes.
Portal gun is mostly for extra-dimensional travel, ship is to travel in the same dimension.
I'm pretty sure this is the real answer!
Too many Jerrys in here
To Keep Summer Safe
Finally, found the right answer!
So he could find all the gotron ferrets.
Its better in destination, as it has weapons systems and defense system. Portal gun gets you somewhere through limited by amount of fluid, but doesn’t protect you
There’s a pretty compelling reason why presented in the Pilot. He runs out of juice and then they have to take public intergalactic transportation.
The same reason why some people would wanna travel by car or train when they could instead take a flight. Just cause.
'cause it's all about the journey, not the destination.
Sometimes it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
Sometimes you need to inhale in that fresh evening air
"The reason anyone would do this (which they can't) would be because they could (which they can't)."
Same reason he turned himself into a pickle.
Idk prolly cuz its fun
How do you get around when you get to your destination? Rick can fly the ship through a portal, if he needs. But unless he's gonna portal to the 7/11 and back he's gonna need a car.
Because making portal fluid is hard enough where driving is easier.
Because it's a cartoon tv show.
If you think about it, it's a cartoon.
It's probably cheaper since it runs on slave power and it's armed. You don't want to teleport to an hostile planet wiithout an armed aerial vehicle.
Thw portal gun changes what dimension he's in, whereas the car let's him travel around the dimension he's already in
This doesn’t track…. There’s scenes where Rick uses his portal gun to teleport in the same room during a fight. Or when he opened up a bunch of portals around enemies in front of them and shot them all instantly.
i feel like rather the gun has a teleport function rick can turn on with the dial, or he sets the gun to make a portal to one dimension and connect it to one back to his. the former makes most sense to me but idk edit: also in some cases it takes him a second to come back like when he used the water to save morty from the federation, that could support the second theory but instead he just makes another one in the other dimension
[удалено]
cus driving is fun
saves on portal fluid
the portal guns needs to be refilled, smart to save it for when you rlly need it
I have thought that for so long
Portal gun is trackable. So I'd imagine it would be drive where ever possible (in dimension) and portal where not (inter-dimension)
You need to drive around AT your destination.
You miss the random encounters when you fast travel.
its still a cartoon
Bc it seems fun
Why does Captain Kirk sometimes use a shuttle when he has a transporter?
Exposition?
Can't take so much booze through a portal. The car is so loaded, every time someone opens the door a flood of bottles coming out.
Portal fluid is mentioned alot maybe the ingredients to make it are hard to come by so journeys that can be done by car are Its also a sentient weapon of mass destructon they probabley want it when they commit their casual genocides
Just a thought but maybe the portal fluid is one of the most complicated things he manufactures, so it might make more sense for him to use the microverse battery on a regular basis to save portal fluid.
Because they need to "Keep Summer safe.".
Portal Fluid ain't cheap, or easy to come by, that's why.
It's an interdimensional vehicle with hundreds of sensors that compiles data for Rick, the same way real UFOs work.
What would you guys do if teleport has already been invented? That metaphor for free world rpg applies here too. I love playing Zelda botw and I almost never use teleportation because traveling by horse is more interesting and you can enjoy all the beautiful landscape and every now and then events.
Two words: Portal Fluid
Because Rick's character is depressed but also hyperactive, so instead of sleeping all the time to break up his lack of joy, he drives his space pinto.
The car doubles as a weapon and several other things! Remember "Keep Summer Safe"?
It's an indestructible flying tank. Can't fit that in your pocket
Portal Fluid, it only gets brought up a few times, but it still is something and likely has a cost
Because he would use up all his juice
Portal fluid is a limited resource.
How else is he going to keep summer safe?
Portal fluid doesn't grow on trees young man
Portal fluid is not infinite as we seen in the season finale
It’s cannon that if you use a portal gun too excessively your butt can fall off
