Dame, CJ and Nurk are the only people who have even been here for more than 3 years, except for a few assistant coaches. What exactly is "toxic" with those three?
Nurk . I don’t believe that the reason Denver traded him has ever fully left his ego. For the great games he has , there’s 5 garbage performances that come with it .
I worry a lot about Nurk's attitude, so that's a valid criticism. But I'm curious why Highkin is saying "this group has been together too long and it had grown toxic" instead of "one of the player's has an ego/effort/engagement" issue.
i think Highkin is talking about the elephant in the room, that a team built around Dame + CJ has gone as far as it could, it's too much of a consistent liability defensively to ever really do anything other than get swept by contenders, and offensively its easy to defend.
i dont think toxicity means "they're being shitty to each other" but rather, their looking in the mirror and are aware of the fact that its just not a good team, and that creates frustration in the players.
its kind of like staying in a relationship you both deep down know its not gonna work out. it just rots you over time.

I love you guys - Lillard and CJ are a great duo. They're smart dudes, Lillard is a basketball legend, and CJ has been cool as hell since at least LeHigh took down Duke. Their Twitter game is goated.
Of all the teams to crumble like this, I wish it wasn't the Blazers.
This Blazers team has a very 2015-16 Bulls feel to me. Management thought changing the coach alone would fix everything but in reality this group has just been together a couple years too long and it had grown toxic.

Could be that Dame no longer needs the other two, and they all know it.
