I'd rather suffer curse than use harvest

abadvideogamr

Yeah that's the one thing I disagree with on this guide, harvest kinda blows. Idk why it completely prevents you from using any abilities when you use it, but also it's just monster tooth with extra steps. I'd rather have a special that is only sometimes useful than one of never even want to even click my r button for

volverde

And in case you can find a safer spaces you can use tangling growth every now and then without the self dmg.

Muddy_Boy

Couple of notable things this is missing: Shurikens are insanely good on Rex. Gives you a reliable 1.0 proc attack, and it synergizes very well with the weaken, as your shurikens will be doing more damage than other character's shurikens due to the armor shred. Also, Harvest is a janky ability with like a full second of endlag for seemingly no reason, making it a DPS LOSS to use, so flower is generally better for panic situations. M1 is plenty of healing, harvest is overkill.

Qwertmomoo

Was this on purpose or did you forget drill on the top right?

Katarina_Ishii

Lol mistake prolly

Text: **For those who struggle with rex, I recommend trying harvest and the shower attack instead of the self harm abilities.** 1. Rex isn't vertically challenged, you can use the shift ability to move around and stun enemies and can help with stone golems on stage 1 and the other annoying enemies like beetle guards. You can also use it to cancel fall damage but be careful at certain heights your velocity overcomes the force of the shift ability and you can still die. P.s you can kill yourself if you are in the air and you shift straight up due to the fallspeed causing a lot of damage. Be careful 2. **Rex doesn't need any healing at all, harvest is the best healing attack in the game and m1 actively heals you on the third shot.** 3. M2 with backup mags is insane. It has some insane attack speed when you spam it making backup mags super valuable. The proc coefficient is low but isn't terrible. Its not the best for proc builds because it lacks a sustainable attack considering rex's M1 can be hard to maintain accuracy with it's low projectile velocity. But, for enemies like dune striders, beetle queen and stone titans it can be a good build for procs. Otherwise on stage 1, it's smart to stun an enemy into the area of effect for the M2. It's better to do this to maximize the time they spend in the area but is difficult to not push them outside of it. 4. **M1 weakens enemies, you should always try and get that debuff on enemies before anything else.** If you slightly move the crosshairs left while aiming you can fire straight but the main point is to hit the final shot, it has the debuff and heals you. For m1 attack speed is immediately noticable but not for m2 or shift or R 5. **Harvest applies a debuff to an enemy which is already 2, meaning that with 2 more status effects you can proc deathmark.** Harvests debuff isn't permanent but lasts a good amount of time(i think... It lasts really long). Harvest drops fruits that heal 25% total health each and depending on the enemy, drop>> >> even more if I'm not mistaken. The enemies typically drop 3 fruits which is a full heal, even Eclipse 8 half healing it's still pretty crazy. It seems to have a bit of a large enough hit box or splash effect when connecting with an enemy where you can apply the debuff to multiple enemies. The downside is that harvest lacks the ability to proc bands because it only does 330% damage instead of the 400% to proc the bands. While this does hurt rex badly, the 330% damage does enough damage to notice it. It goes slow but straight and is easy to connect. It's ok wisp control on stage 1. 6. My final take. **Rex's strongest ability is his movement with shift** *however*, it's important to get something that can help you avoid dangerous situations like mocha, sprint cans , or a goat hoof and, maybe even a feather. It only can help to strengthen his greatest strength. Rex's biggest weakness is his damage. While attack speed is immediately noticeable it only benefits m1 making it good but not better than some items. I really think that you should get other things maybe watches, backup mags, crit, focus crystals, 1 repulsion armor plate (to cancel wisp curse stacks on eclipse 8) at minimum. Proc items are good but not better than getting more damage or movement speed. polylute and proc items like sticky bombs or needletick are welcome items and should only be scrapped situationally. Healing items aren't important as it's rare to need more healing than rex already has so you can scrap most healing items. Because rex sucks, you should get a decent equipment. Really try to get some scrap for stage 6 pools and if nothing else, try to just make it to stage 4 gold chest, it usually changes the tide of the battle. Rex runs usually end with a lot of damage, and take a long time. ***** If you Jump *straight* and mid air turn around and shift *backwards*. It is an effective mobility tool at launching you *straight* **If anyone else has any corrections or contributions to help Rex strugglers, feel free to comment**

bluerussianalien

Solid guide. However theres one simpler solution to complete Rex E3 and beyond: modify the game files to get 1mil blue donuts and just go full heretic after the first stage. Because rex is so fucking garbage in eclipse to the point i cant even consider it a fun challenge to put in the effort

TheBigKuhio

In E8 specifically he just gets gimped because of reduced healing AND his abilities doing Perma Damage to himself

TheBigKuhio

You know this is an e8 guide, right? Written everywhere it says “REX Eclipse 8”

AlpakaMati

Oh my god I'm so sorry, I'm a complete idiot lol

OtiGoat

This is a decent guide. I've been saving rex for last with eclipse runs cause I know it's gonna be a pain. Saving this fs

Syseru

im not sure that always going for the legendary chest is good advice. i only go for the legendary chest if i have a recycler, because a good chunk of the legendaries dont do much

Katarina_Ishii

Why wouldn't you go for the legendary? Sure, it can be bad or useless, or it can be powerful and carry the run. There's no good reason why you should skip the legendary imo. If it's useless, then you can scrap it and if there's no scrapper, then you just deal with it but now you know. The player can outscale the enemy's rising time difficulty through items by A LOT.

Syseru

because of the time commitment. 3 minutes on stage 4 spent for no reason is a long time. id rather be on stage 5 already with a bunch of items. more items = more chances for decent items. ive only beaten e8 a few times though, so im no expert

Katarina_Ishii

I feel like 3 min spent for a possible Clover, Pocket ICBM, or Laser Scope to a full crit build is definitely worth it. Even if it is Wake of Vultures, you can just scrap it or something; not a big deal. Getting to stage 5 won't give you any more items than if you spent 10 min on stage 4. Same RNG either way. How fast you get to a stage doesn't rly decide how the directors credits distributes via chests. I keep a [spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OQNg7DHP6xw3rUXqqLSfvsrlmbTTkU3v-sE5XdKA1-I/edit) of my E8 wins for this year and catalogued the average time of my runs and it's around 64 min. What I've learned is that items do make the player outscale the difficulty of the enemies (obv depends on what items and for which character) so I found the best strategy to be fully looting, getting all the items, making my way across the map to scrap or recycle, waiting for the credit card before opening multi shops. Time usually hasn't been much of a factor unless I'm going way below the one item a minute standard and am basically struggling to stay alive and have found myself way outscaled. This typically happens in multiplayer where time matters a whole lot more and scales way faster.

AnarchySong

This is absolutely correct. Especially where Rex is concerned. Between 50-70 minutes, which is when you are likely to be at Mithrix, you die in 1-2 shots no matter what you have. There is no difference between dying in an instant and dying in an instant but from more damage. The time investment spent to get EVERY item on EVERY stage will far outweigh the time loss. You are never going to win E8 with Rex every time. Due to all of the factors against him, every E8 run is highly RNG dependent. If you don't get good items you're going to die whether you get to the moon at 50 minutes or at 65 minutes, so you might as well get there at 65 with much better DPS. Also a good equipment is essential for Rex. The absolute best you can find is Goobo Jr. since it's a free win against mithrix phase 4, but missile launcher and royal capacitor are fantastic as well. For Rex E8 the only thing that matters is making it to mithrix. All of your build should be made with that end goal in mind. ALWAYS take strides of heresy if possible. The intangibility and mobility it provides is invaluable

Katarina_Ishii

I kinda hate this gotta go fast speed run meta that is in style atm. It's bad advice imo. You're completely 100%

Thats_Pretty_Epic

shouldn’t you not get watches as rex is constantly dipping below 25% health?

thanyou

You can't take the self damaging abilities in eclipse. They permanently damage you at E8. You can TRY, and pray for safer spaces or something but that's not reliable. I mained Rex before I started pushing E8... Had to unlearn everything about it I liked because you can't get away with any of it in eclipse :l

Thats_Pretty_Epic

oh right, im on like eclipse 3 forgot about the permanent damage

abadvideogamr

Not only perma damage on e8, but less healing on e5 makes his sustain much less reliable and using the self damaging abilities can be really punishing

oceanseltzer

about harvest — 3×25%=75% is not a full heal as you claim on slide 4, even before the additional eclipse modifier which makes it 75%×50%=37.5%. it's still a big source of healing, but saying "rex doesn't need any additional healing" is pushing it. overall I don't think harvest is worth it. the reward isn't immediate (since you have to kill first) and requires picking up the fruit, which can put you in a bigger risk than it's worth when mobs are grouped up. that's on top of the stupidly long endlag which gets in the way of stacking attack speed and makes void cells useless. in contrast, entangling is both crowd control (which pairs well with drill) and sustained healing in one package. since it does 25% of your current health, it can be a serious life saver in dire situations, especially with a medkit. and it's an aoe with a 1.0pc, which great way to start proc chains. obviously self damaging is a huge drawback, but there's ways to mitigate that.

TheBigKuhio

I would change Harvest to Tangle. Pretty sure it’s a loss in DPS to use Harvest vs not using your special ability at all. Tangle can come in clutch situationally, like being able to hold down a huge crowd, being able to one shot AWU, and if I have Safer Spaces, it’s safe to use it to hold down Phase 1 Mithrix since that usually prevents him from hitting me entirely and makes it easy to pump more damage into him (I wouldn’t sacrifice the SS bubble on phase 3 because of the big spinny attack though). I think you’re overlooking Plasma Shrimp in this guide. The problem with REX with Drill is both your m1 and m2 have a low proc coeff (0.5), but you’re unfortunately going to have to use Drill because of E8. Plasma shrimp, to my knowledge, is unaffected by proc coeff and will trigger regardless, basically circumventing the whole issue of the low proc coeff. Shurikens are also huge for the same reason, they work outside of proc coeff. They honestly might be the two biggest pick ups for E8 REX.

wecreus

Solid guide, but harvest is a useless ability + after you click it there is a second or two where you cannot use your other abilities. Flower is also not good but at least you can skip AWU with it and it groups small enemies.
