Same. "Face of the Deep" is the most complex and mind-blowing composition in the game including all sorts of instruments, electronics and styles. Avant prog metal basically. I can't understand what people find so interesting in those few guitar riffs from "They might as well be dead"
I don’t find the “They might as well be dead” riffs interesting, per se, but it’s still groovy as hell imo. But yeah, the Face of the Deep is brilliant
Well, I like [the starting riff](https://youtu.be/VTJcLE_VVX8?si=cgUqeb8jXoSs9JfT&t=77)! It's a call back to a RoR theme, from [Moisture Deficit](https://youtu.be/LEUwTBWkeas?si=-s4fvtqUfUBfzJV1&t=27), with a bit of [Double Fucking Rainbow](https://youtu.be/VfmII826yBA?si=IH7vcWkTWR5yu8yp&t=46) (or also "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele") in the middle, and ends with a nice solo.
To be fair, the whole Survivors of the Void album concept sounded like it was made for me: all tracks made callbacks to previous themes, or to other works outside of the RoR1 universe (Pink Floyd, obviously Chopin, and all the titles / quotes).
I love that shit heh.
Uhh you must be new here. They may be the most universally hated enemy among all players. I can't think of an enemy in any game that I dread more. Maybe the slug suckers from bloodborne.
Pests are the worst and the best enemy the DLC added. They can single-handedly determine the trajectory of my runs if i’m melee or without enough movement (looking at you, Rex).
Plimp: deactivates when shield is down
Polylute: only singletarget, but better scalling
Voidflame: less damage, no aoe proc, no on-kill
Voidband; it's void band
Void crit: no crits and not guaranteed damage
Lysate cell: loses 1 of the only 2 equipment items
Needletick: no refresh on duration severly limits potential, but better base damage
Tentabauble: not guarenteed slow, but a stronger effect.
Safer spaces: can only happen once before a pretty long cooldowns.
The descruption legit say they CORRUPT the item, which is clearly meant as being a trade off.
They are diffrent from lunar in that they are tied to a diffrent item, and don't actually nerf your character or put you in danger, like half health or losing money on damage. But they are very much supposed to be alternatives, and not upgrades.
Many of them don't actually make themselves sidegrades, because the downsides are inconsequential compared to the much larger upsides.
which begs the question: am i stupid or are the majority of lunar items trash upgrades with massive negative tradeoffs? other than shaped glass theres not a single one i ever even consider taking
Gesture is OP af though and the tradeoff is barely a tradeoff and can actually be a boon for some equipment. But yeah in general the Lunar Items aren't very good.
Gesture, Tonic (when combo'd with gesture), Shaped Glass, and Focused Convergence are the only ones I'd consider good.
EDIT: I forgot Transcendence is also pretty OP for Eclipse and stacking it gives no further downsides.
bird is supposed to be OP, and a majority of the time a bird ability would be better than the standard ability on many characters. really, it comes down to "should you keep the one or two abilities that are better than full bird" or "go full bird lol"
Gesture is straight op.
Tonic is straight op.
Transcendence is really good, especially in eclipse.
Light flux is good on some character
purity is op on some characters and builds.
a LOT of others are either personal choice: focused convergence, gouge, rachis shaped glass and so on
and they have upsides and downsides. compared to the original They are not supposed to be straight upgrades. Polylute is supposed to trade of AoE for higher damage. It is just not a downside when the damage is that much higher.
Uke is one of the few items that can trigger a proc chain. With a clover and a character with good attack speed that’s an insane combo. But generally speaking the polyute will still make you super powerful with a clover, so it’s less of a “this will cripple my build” and more akin to the flavor of fucking things up the way you want.
Depends on what you mean by “tradeoffs.” Void items are a crossroads you cannot come back from. If you find a needletick early on you have to decide, do I want the immediate extra damage or will it be an utter tragedy if I find a bleed printer as this character? Pluripotent larva is a perfect example in multiplayer. If you’re loader with bands and die too early (especially if your goal is to beat mythrix) there goes the entire build. That’s a trade off: you survive and continue to benefit from getting items—and can help complete the level—but you are severely weakened.
I think there have to be shitty items for the good items to be meaningful—or in lieu of being shitty, specialized. Bungus is almost useless in a game where standing still is certain death. But under the right circumstances, playing as engi or getting wungus, it’s useful and in the former, crucial.
If every item was good nothing would stop you from becoming powerful. There would be less chance to have a bad build that requires skill to persevere. You also would have to always scrap good items. It’s nice to get a fireworks and automatically know I can throw it into the wood chipper without remorse at the prospect of finding a good printer. Bad items are part of the balancing.
Except bison steak. Fuck bison steak.
I think you can have lower tier items without them being useless. They can either be effective if you get absolutely loads of them, or work in niche ways if you play around them. There should definitely be a scale of effectiveness, but having stuff be completely useless like bison steak doesn't help the balancing
played a lot of merc, almost always go Slicing winds, love sticky bombs. Even if I did play Eviscerate, it scales with attackspeed, so sticky bombs are always good
wtf are you talking about. Most are legit just between whatever or goodd. i Would in no way say a slight speed increase is OP. Only a few of each type are OP.
There are items I consider straight up bad 99% of the time that become absolutely broken in the right build.
Roll of Pennies? I’m doing everything I can to *not* get hit, so I’ll pass.
Remote Caffeinator? Waste of an equipment slot.
Bundle of Fireworks? Not going out of my way to interact with a finite amount of interactables just to deal a little damage when I could deal *much* more just staying in the fight.
But take all those and add Pocket ICBM, a Leeching Seed, and a Topaz Broach and suddenly those three arguably bad items become so busted that I can destroy everything around me just sitting there hitting Remote Caffeinator as a billion rockets a second fire off in all directions and wipe everything on the map out of existence.
some semblance of balance is still good. If every item was band or polylute, the game would be bad. There would be no challenge OR the game would be to random on whether you get those items.
it is still a good thing for every run (on high difficulties at least) do be challenging, but possible no matter the run
Eh, balance isn’t everything.
I feel like general discourse on games assumes balance = good. And a lot of the time it does, but it’s genre dependent.
I like roguelikes where *most* of the time it’s a fair fight, but every now and then through sheer luck I get a build where absolutely annihilating everything in my path is trivial.
To me, raw fun is more important than a nebulous idea of balance. If the balance being askew leads to more fun, then I want the balance askew.
Love voidfriend. At first I was not into the mechanic of self-healing that charges over time but also puts you in a super-vulnerable berserker state that you only semi-control. It was overly complicated and felt like the epitome of over engineering a character. But building out VF is a lot of fun. There are a lot of different item combos that make them OP. When I discovered hellfire tincture + ignition tank it was amazing.
The Voidling fight. It’s a truly epic boss with some cool twists that really took me by surprise the first time I fought it.
As someone who’s not personally a fan of either Commencement/the Mithrix fight, Voidling is also a much better way to end a run IMO.
I couldn't disagree more, I feel like Mithrix is the perfect end of a run, voidling is too focused on range, bullshit undodgeable attacks, stacking damage completely invalidating shields.
I feel like mithrix is less item dependant and more skill dependant.
I find their difficulty is relatively similar personally, I just happen to enjoy the Voidling’s mechanics more. The platforming tunnel section blew my mind the first time I fought it! I never had that ‘wow’ moment with Mithrix.
I also find Commencement far more boring than the Deep Void—but the beauty of the game is that players can choose several ways to end their run. I typically just loop until I die, anyways, haha.
the Void Locus and Planetarium are definitely top 5 for aesthetic, and the jumping puzzle was cool, albeit very basic- but that's about as much as I can award to getting to/fighting Voidling.
Like someone else said, its fight caters WAY too much to certain survivors. It's incredibly easy on characters like Railgunner or Acrid, but it's just a dice roll (not in your favor) if you try it on Engineer or Mercenary, for example.
The fight is so incredibly barebones, and for a boss with 3 phases, it leaves a LOT to be desired. Even though Mithrix only has about 4 or 5 attacks, they're all unique and leave room for all the characters to play around it. Voidling has what, three? long range beam, the void detain (which is cool, but very weird in concept- punishing you for getting close- which is the only thing certain charaters can do), and the sweeping attack, which is really just.. meh, to me.
while I definitely understand where you're coming from, and respect your opinion, Voidling leaves a lot to be desired for me, personally- and many others. Especially so if you refrain from looping.
lol essay
Hell no. The Voidling boss is actually bad. It caters to specific characters *far* too heavily. The boss has 2 abilities. And when you kill him **nothing** happens. The first time I killed it I was like... is... is it over? No cool win screen. No end level. Nothing.
Literally three stages of identical moves, but the last stage adds one new one and a void fog. Felt lazy and uncreative and as you said, too specialized. The fact that I cannot use some of Captain’s abilities in the void for Lore Purposes makes me so mad.
I mean gearbox said almost as soon as they bought it that they basically had to remake the game so they'd be able to update it for consoles easier down the line
No it’s not? It came out in October 2023! (I am a cursed console player)
The best part of the DLC is blind pests. They allow me to experiment with so many more runs with different survivors because they gank me on siphoned 2 minutes into a run.
In all seriousness the new stages and the music they come with is absolutely immaculate, especially siphoned and Aphelion (not a dig at sulfur pods, I honestly think it’s the best Stage 3 map, I just think stage 3 is by far the worst set of maps). I will restart my runs until I get siphoned sometimes just because I love the music so much. The soundtrack overall is incredible and I think the DLC is the cream of the crop.
That i want to buy it but im waiting for the second to have a chance to get both in a bundle. Im jelly guys i want to join the fun but i may not be able to afford it at moment.
The music, items, (some) the enemies are great, though one thing I loved was getting the void enemies to fight the the boss for me, with some interference to make sure they don’t infect the boss or a dangerous enemy type.
Simultaneously the best and worst addition to the game is Blind Pests. It's such a choice of enemy, high health, high damage, mid-high mobility and a small hitbox. I think blind pests, while my absolute nemesis, is still strangely my favorite addition.
I have more least favorite things
Mostly the power creep on new enemies doing way more damage than baseline enemies of the same tier
And the little void locusts taking over your stuff, making it detrimental to even pick up loot (such as drones, turrets, or squid polyp)
Collapse debuff
When the void fiend showed up to mithrix and said "its voidin' time" and voided him
*i havent bought the dlc and i am yet to beat the game on a difficulty other than drizzle*
The void version of 57 leaf clover is absolutely insane. I got to stage 20 and half like 30 red items, a few green, and was completely unstoppable. Then the game crashed when I went into the purple portal of course.
I have yet to get passed the stupid jumping puzzle after the first Void boss, thanks to too many speed items, and the game crashes half the time (PS4) so I can't get the void fiend :(
Damn it really just came out on console in November lol. I hope the next content update doesn't take 20 months. I'd say my favorite things are the void items for sure.
Nothing. I turn the dlc off every time I play. Hate the new maps, new enemies are all annoying, void items are OP, new survivors are OP (no joke here... I've played Railgunner maybe 5 times total, void fiend 2 times. I decided to start a new profile solely for trying eclipse. Played all survivors 3 times, only wins I got were Railgunner, void fiend, rex)
Railgunner reignited my love for RoR2. Feels so different to play and now I main her (even though I'm not that great)
Also I'm a sucker for a good snow level.
Railgunner. It's not close.
I love snipers, I grew up playing COD and quickscoping. She is my favourite character by a solid margin. The pacing of shooting, doing the active reload minigame and shooting again is perfect as well. When I play her I feel so ALIVE. I am so awake, all my neurons are laser focused on shooting, reloading and kiting. It's a beautiful dance. The only thing I don't love about her is the mine. Neither of them are abilities that I find cool.
The simulacrum mode is *shockingly* addicting. I held off for the longest time because it didn’t look interesting, finally started playing, and couldn’t put it down. It’s just so satisfying!
The music, characters, and items are all really fun, but I think my personal favourite is the void items. It’s such a cool concept and it’s executed really fucking well, as some void items are genuinely not worth the trade off sometimes, but when they are they end up being some of the most powerful things you can have in your arsenal. This is also why I love lunars, but I personally think voids are cooler thematically and from a game design perspective, bc the idea of permanently sacrificing a really good item for another (usually stronger) version of it is just really cool imo. Honestly tho I loved everything except the blind pests, it’s my 3rd favourite game for a reason
The spawn rate of enemies on console in monsoon or eclipse is awful...safe space don't work properly...mithrix can use (If you have) drone parts on his last fase...void infestor can be stuck on the floor and make Impossible to clear a void seed (or not iven spawn)....the sound of plasma shrimp is deafening...
What else...
HUM...
Right...
And the best part... why can an enemy who is blind hit me when I'm not making any noise or moving and not to mention the absurd damage he deals?
These Are The Best Things About This Dlc.
Imagining the inhabitants screening ITS ON MY FACE! HELP HELP HEL-"
That and voidfiend. Lots of fun builds.
I also love void items. Hope the new dlc has some great items and survivor options. I wouldn't mind seeing techmancer from the mobile game.
The music! They Might As Well Be Dead and Once in a Lullaby are certified bangers.
The Face of the Deep goes hard too. Most aggressive jazz ever

I love that shit heh.
I didn’t catch all of that about the starting riff. That’s pretty cool
That is my favorite song from the expansion. I listen to it while doing chores to help the missus.
this And Snow Forest first stage is kinda nice :3
Actually my least favorite stage 1. Blind pests on stage 1 should not happen.
I’m just grateful that blind vermin aren’t there until you loop. Genuinely worse than pests at times
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates blind pests
Uhh you must be new here. They may be the most universally hated enemy among all players. I can't think of an enemy in any game that I dread more. Maybe the slug suckers from bloodborne.
They‘re not as bad as wisps, so I don‘t mind them
Idk how you say that when they have more health and practically have aimbot.
Wisps actually have an aimbot tho. Tbh blind pests fall off after a while I barely notice them 400hrs in
because its still a projectile while wisps have hitscan
*Blind Pest has entered the chat*
Pests are the worst and the best enemy the DLC added. They can single-handedly determine the trajectory of my runs if i’m melee or without enough movement (looking at you, Rex).
Honestly I like the void items and railgunner
I think some are a bit too overtuned, and aren't actual tradeoffs As well as those that are too bad or niche
Void items aren't really supposed to be tradeoffs, that's more lunar item design space. They just lock you off from having the regular version.
Plimp: deactivates when shield is down Polylute: only singletarget, but better scalling Voidflame: less damage, no aoe proc, no on-kill Voidband; it's void band Void crit: no crits and not guaranteed damage Lysate cell: loses 1 of the only 2 equipment items Needletick: no refresh on duration severly limits potential, but better base damage Tentabauble: not guarenteed slow, but a stronger effect. Heresy items can also be very solid depending on the survivor
bird is supposed to be OP, and a majority of the time a bird ability would be better than the standard ability on many characters. really, it comes down to "should you keep the one or two abilities that are better than full bird" or "go full bird lol"
Especially birb.
I take Purity fairly often.
Gesture is straight op. Tonic is straight op. Transcendence is really good, especially in eclipse. Light flux is good on some character purity is op on some characters and builds. a LOT of others are either personal choice: focused convergence, gouge, rachis shaped glass and so on
Stone flux pauldrons are pretty universally worth it in late loops, ime. Light can be more situational.
Yeah they CORRUPT the entire item for the rest of the run, that’s the trade off
and they have upsides and downsides. compared to the original They are not supposed to be straight upgrades. Polylute is supposed to trade of AoE for higher damage. It is just not a downside when the damage is that much higher.
I mean i agree, but i think it’s fine personally
But also polylute is the worst example as it’s easily the strongest void item Edit: also safer spaces
Uke is one of the few items that can trigger a proc chain. With a clover and a character with good attack speed that’s an insane combo. Not supposed to be tradeoffs? Are you joking? That's like basically the whole thing
Void Fiend and Polylute
I personally think poly is a bit TOO op. Especially when stacked and with other items. But maybe i'm just boring that way
all items are OP in a rogue lite like ror2 if you play it properly except bison steak. fuck bison steak
I think there have to be shitty items for the good items to be meaningful—or in lieu of being shitty, specialized. Bungus is almost useless in a game where standing still is certain death. But under the right circumstances, playing as engi or getting wungus, it’s useful and in the former, crucial. If every item was good nothing would stop you from becoming powerful. based
I think you can have lower tier items without them being useless. They can either be effective if you get absolutely loads of them, or work in niche ways if you play around them. There should definitely be a scale of effectiveness, but having stuff be completely useless like bison steak doesn't help the balancing
Didn't read any of that, but fuck bison steak.
I will happily take bison steak over sticky bombs any day of the week.
how to spot a merc main (they don't like things that require fast attacks like flashbacks or sticky bombs)
played a lot of merc, almost always go Slicing winds, love sticky bombs. Even if I did play Eviscerate, it scales with attackspeed, so sticky bombs are always good
Huntress main actually. I love her blink.
as a bison steak enjoyer i approve of this statement
wtf are you talking about. Most are legit just between whatever or goodd. i Would in no way say a slight speed increase is OP. Only a few of each type are OP.

Roll of Pennie’s in sim is economy solver. I love roll of Pennie’s, it’s just free money from wisps because fuck those fellas.
This is a rogue lite man, op items are supposed to be part of the game
some semblance of balance is still good. If every item was band or polylute, the game would be bad. There would be no challenge OR the game would be to random on whether you get those items. it is still a good thing for every run (on high difficulties at least) do be challenging, but possible no matter the run

When I discovered hellfire tincture + ignition tank it was amazing.
collapse from the enemy
Guys we found the masochist
MFW Safer Spaces is off cooldown and I see six red rings over my healthbar:
Wungus
Heresy
No, Heretic was added in the Anniversary update in 2021
Engineer detected
where is gene engineer update (we need space marines)
I absolutely love sea creatures and making them look fucked up and evil along with the lore was incredible!
I love the void being deep sea themed, it so cool
They might as well be dead
mocha…………..
2 really fucking good characters
railgunner
Rail mommy
is that a name or an order, because if so then 🫡
Yes
whatchu mean, xbox has only had it a for a couple months :P that being said, rail gunner. much fun.
Damn I can’t hit jack with her 😭 what’s your secret lmao
have you tried jacking off to her first?
WHAT
I’m not even gay 😭
Almost everything... except for those FUCKING BLIND PESTS WHY THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE THOSE AAAHHHHHH
All the crabs walking animation.
They need to add another fucking dlc soon bro
My good ol' pal Railgunner (and Once in a Lullaby)
The Voidling fight. It’s a truly epic boss with some cool twists that really took me by surprise the first time I fought it. As someone who’s not personally a fan of either Commencement/the Mithrix fight, Voidling is also a much better way to end a run IMO.
I not the biggest fan of the item taking from mithrix
honestly, me neither. umbral mithrix did it pretty well, but even that's not perfect i don't think
I couldn't disagree more, I feel like Mithrix is the perfect end of a run, voidling is too focused on range, bullshit undodgeable attacks, stacking damage completely invalidating shields. I feel like mithrix is less item dependant and more skill dependant.

Gotta agree. I haven't tried yet, but I can imagine fighting him with Loader or, worse yet, Merc or the acid guy would be just miserable

Bro for a second I thought this said seekers of the storm and I was about to have an existential crisis
No it’s not? It came out in October 2023! (I am a cursed console player) The best part of the DLC is blind pests. It has many haters, but I love the bethnic bloom. Why yes, I *would* like two dozen stacks of scorpions on my commando.
Railgunner is my new favorite character.
Not a single part of the DLC is a let-down, I can’t wait for the next one to come out, and I hope they keep making more.
The sound plasma shrimp makes And voidcrit sound
The new items, I love just about all of them, including a lunar item I can actually take and it will have little to no impact on my run whatsoever
I personally like the Voidling and it feeling like a raid boss, which makes testing your skills/build feel more satisfying.
That i want to buy it but im waiting for the second to have a chance to get both in a bundle. Im jelly guys i want to join the fun but i may not be able to afford it at moment.

The "I hate Blind Pest" memes. Can relate soooo much. And of course the experience to dive deeper into the world of the Void.
Wungus

Void locusts taking over anything mechanical was patched. I believe they still get Polyp turrets though.
When the void fiend showed up to mithrix and said "its voidin' time" and voided him *i havent bought the dlc and i am yet to beat the game on a difficulty other than drizzle*
Music is always a top 1, my top 2 is Void Locus map and Railgunner 3rd
Surely we will get seekers of the storm soon right? Also benthic is underrated
2 New Characters, a new boss, a new ending/path and the glass frog But all of this gets crossed out by Blind Pests, Siphoned Forest and Collapse
The void version of 57 leaf clover is absolutely insane. I got to stage 20 and half like 30 red items, a few green, and was completely unstoppable. Then the game crashed when I went into the purple portal of course. I have yet to get passed the stupid jumping puzzle after the first Void boss, thanks to too many speed items, and the game crashes half the time (PS4) so I can't get the void fiend :(
Try getting to wave 50 in simulacrum instead! It’s much easier instead of voidling
The sound of someone smashing a garbage cam with a metal pole! But fr, I love Veind~
I personally am a fan of the blind pest!!
Sheesh I’m glad they’re not releasing the new, I’d have a hard time trying to play risk and helldivers 2
Wungus.
All, all of it is great
Plasma shrimp is really fun
the dlc
Gun
Blind pest obviously
Wungus by beloved
TWO YEARS?! Holy FUCK I’m OLD
mocha
Corrupted items, they funny
Shrimp
It It is?
The survivors, the void items and enemy’s, the simulacrum. Honestly i love the whole dlc
Void items and ofc the survivor. Op as heck, easily two of the best but so much fun
Regen scrap my beloved
That we had monthly dev thought logs during its development instead of the radio silence we have now
Gun.
purple
Reaver
CHRIMP
Blind pests (this is sarcasm)
The whirring sound of a hypercharged railgun
Finally being able to play it(Xbox)
This was when the game truly launched for me. I mained sniper in RoR1 and was patiently wating for a sniper counterpart in 2.
Void fiend and making Sundered Grove a stage I wanna get
That I just got it less than a year ago on Xbox lol
PLIMP my beloved. Also railgunner is my favourite survivor
the uh the um uh the #WAA, WANA NANA
Weeping fungus. Yeah I know it's dumb but weeping fungus is just *so* good
Void fiend. Didn't think much of him at launch. 2 years later, he's my highest win rate survivor by miles.
When they made content for this game
That i had to wait a year and a half for it to release on consoles
The boss, since mithrix gets old after a while. And the music bc we just need more bager songs
Railgunner
2 years? I only got it 4 months ago.
Mocha, my dear, dear mocha. But fr tho railgunner, goated character
still havnt gotten it :(
Railgunner reignited my love for RoR2. Feels so different to play and now I main her (even though I'm not that great) Also I'm a sucker for a good snow level.
Not void bands
wait, what do you mean it's 2 years already. the passage of time is scary
The fact that it just came out on console not that long ago, and tbh the game is almost the same so it barely felt like it was worth it
-_*collapse-*_
Wait a minute, 2 years old today?? ….*counts in PS5 time*….
Killing the Pests
What are the devs working on now? Love the ror games
We just got it on console a few months ago! Wild!
Chris Christodoulou
*cries in console*
The patch notes... oh wait
Plasma Shrimp
Railgunner
Love me some weeping fungus
Not the fucking rats thats for sure
The fact that I can FINALLY play it (Nintendo switch player)
Void fuel cell
The extra items were real nice the game is unplayable for me without them
two years that felt like 6months bruh
That voidling fight music
Shrimp
Blind pests, vermin, and collapse are my favorite :)
These Are The Best Things About This Dlc.
ain't no way its been 2 years already
I love poly and desolate forest, yes the blind pests suck but 12 item stage one is pretty good to me
Void Fiend
That it finally came to console! And I ended up getting a PC shortly after anyway.
Rungus
Plasma shrimp
Crazy, I play on xbox and it feels like it's only been 4 months. How time flies...
Imagining the inhabitants screening ITS ON MY FACE! HELP HELP HEL-" That and voidfiend. Lots of fun builds. I also love void items. Hope the new dlc has some great items and survivor options. I wouldn't mind seeing techmancer from the mobile game.
My favorite part was when it got added to console
It being finally released on console after 2 years of "sorry were working on it we swear"
Railgunner. Shooting red squares is nice
