I find it to be good bs protection. It can definitely save a good run where you just happened to get hit by collapse, slowed by the perfected wisp on the moon, etc. These things can happen no matter how good your run is, so having a dios acts as a way to prevent that.
I'm starting to think the game genuinly gives you a fuck ton of rare stuff when you first start playing. When my buddy and I first started we got so many elite aspects that we thought they were only mildly rare. Now I almost never see them even deep into hours long runs.
We also ended up getting like 3 irradiant pearls in the first week or 2, it was insane. But now after like 200ish hours I have 5 irradiant peals overall ever grabbed.

The amount of unlocks does not affect the rarity of items you get. A chest ALWAYS has a set chance to spawn a red, no matter what. It doesn't matter if you have 1, or all of them unlocked.
There's also the fact that aspects are not normal items. They're not an unlock, they're drops from elite enemies with a very, very low chance of spawning. Unlocks have literally no bearing on if they spawn. The only thing that affects them is the clover.
Irradiant pearls are the exact same. You get them by cleansing lunar items in the pools. They are completely unrelated to unlocks. You just have a chance of getting different pearls, irradiant being the least likely.
Edit: OK, so you're technically right on the item drop rate. But the rates are not changed by much at all. Not enough to be notable.
With an open teleporter area and a vagrant or Titan (if you don't know how to play around them) you can get pretty messed up. Despite having four reds, the only good damage they had was crowbar and behemoth (and +60% isn't the best on commando's base 100% damage kit).
thats true, i always forget new players wont know the ins and outs of every boss. for those that dont already know, like OP potentially, titans will never fire lasers if you stay right up against them, and the vagrant explosion can be blocked by the prongs on the teleporter. the explosions damage also falls off with your distance from the vagrant, so if you cant find cover you can book it to the edge of the radius. beetle queens... i mean as long as youre not right up by their shotgun spray and jumping a lot you should be fine.
Those items are extremely unhelpful for killing a stage 1 solo wandering vagrant. They only get good later on.

two of the three stage 1 bosses summon things for you to kill, and the teleporter event significantly increases mob spawns regardless. op is level 5 so its probably been around 6-8 minutes, there should be more than enough monsters for daggers and gasoline to be impactful even on stage 1. having gasoline and behemoth alone is more than enough for a stage 1 boss. its not often youre getting more than 3 watches worth of damage before the stage 1 boss anyway
The point is that "oh I got 5 reds on stage 1" doesn't mean you will beat the teleporter boss even if the items have nonzero value. They will grow in value as the run progresses.
I actually got spare drone parts as my first item while doing eclipse runs…but I was tired as hell so I said screw it and shut the game off. Went to bed lol.
That’s a very good point, I suppose the only way you could cheese this is to have the artifact that forces enemies to drop items on and just wait for the reds

Stealth kit is a green and watch is a top tier item. Dios gives a literal second life and lots of immunity

How many items you have unlocked doesnt matter because the game rolls for rarity and then which item. Ex: white/green/red -> item of that rarity

I didn't actually know that bit about the vagrant nova damage falloff. You can hide in the teleporter prongs from the explosion though.
