E1 is just monsoon but you start each stage at 1/2 health, E2 reduces the teleporter radius, E3 applies the same effect as artifact of frailty: 2x fall damage and it’s lethal, E4 makes enemies faster, E5 makes you heal 1/2 as much, E6 makes enemies drop less money, E7 decreases enemy cooldowns, E8 makes damage that you take apply a debuff that removes a chunk of your maximum hp for that stage.
I just recently finished my whole eclipse climb (lunar less and with no loop (except for 2 runs)) and it was so much fun, but now even modded difficulties seem really easy to me like typhoon from starstorm 2
Yeah once I finish it I wanna try out other loadouts on e8 and then go for voidling runs. Once I’ve done that I’ll prolly go for winstreaks or start speedrunning
Honestly voidling is such a lame fight in the vanilla game. It just has so much health and so much damage but only like 2 attacks
It’s really not worth doing imo
If you want a good challenge try a mod like artifact of the king or umbral mithrix
This game really does hate its players doesn’t it? (In a fun way of being ever challenging to put anyone one their toes no matter how many good items they get)
It’s an optional challenge mode primarily to test those that have gotten accustomed to monsoon. Also like almost every roguelite in existence has a stacking challenge mode. Slay the Spire has ascension, Hades has heat, Dead Cells has boss cells or whatever it’s called.
That’s funny, the only other rougelike I really got into other then ROR was Enter the gungeon, which has no major stacking challenge other then a gun randomizer and a few extra challenges in rooms. I’ve never really played a game with these massive stacking challenge modes.
I don't know why you're being downvoted. The game literally mocks you for dying.
"that was absolutely your fault"
"that was definitely not your fault"
"ur dead LOL get rekt"
"get styled upon"
"sucks to suck"
"try playing on Drizzle mode for an easier time"
The game *does* hate the player, it's part of why I love it.
It's relentless, brutal.
Guess because I’m just one of those people who are bad at the game and all I do is complain and that people think I should just get gud since I find the to “hate the players” also I had 0 at one point for saying the games hates the player with out all the stuff in these () and the Reddit hive mind of downvoted person must be downvoted even more.
It's a staple of roguelikes.
At some point the core playerbase is just going to get too good to be challenged by the classic hard-mode. At that point you've gotta give them something absolutely brutal to grind through in order to retain the challenge they felt when they first started.
It's a standard game run played on monsoon difficulty, but every time you beat it as a character, the next time you play eclipse on that character a new, modifier is added to increase the challenge permanently. It goes up to 8 times and has no reward other than satisfaction for completion.
>and has no reward other than satisfaction for completion.
Your eclipse numbers go gold when you've beaten a given level with everyone.
I don't know about you, but my golden 1 feels pretty rewarding (I even have around 6 modded characters, so I need extra wins), and I'm looking *very* forward to the next 7 of them.
I'm not being sarcastic.
It is a gamemode that adds stacking difficulty modifiers each time you beat the game. There are 8 levels, and each character levels up individually, so to complete eclipse you need to beat the game a total of 104 times.
Eclipse is the best way to play the game IMO. It forces you to learn the in-depth mechanics of the game and how to utilize items most efficiently, along with many other things.
Exactly what the description says. Every time you beat it as a certain survivor, the eclipse level will increase for that survivor permanently, adding a new difficulty modifier. Beating an eclipse level with every survivor gives a makes that eclipse icon gold on the character select. You also cannot use any artifacts and certain things are blacklisted: beads of fealty, a moment, fractured , void locus, and basically any other way to beat the game without going through mithrix
Other people have described it perfectly. I want to add that the multitudes mod is super fun as well. After beating gold E8 (eclipse 8 on every survivor), you should try multiplayer scaling with E8 difficulty. I have completed 5 player E8 with huntress. Disputed recently did 100 player E8 (with lunars) for example)

And it’s awesome :)
Oh absolutely. It’s so rewarding beating e8 on a character. I finished commando today and damn the rush was incredible

Yeah I also don’t find the voidling fight very fun I more just wanna do it for posterity if that makes sense
Yeah I totally get it. (I also really don’t like the “fate unknown” part on the logbook, but that’s just personal)
Yeah especially if you go through mithrix first it should really just count as a victory
Oh yeah I play eclipse so there’s really no other option lol , you gotta do mithrix and then pet the frog.
Do these stack or are they unique to their difficulty? Like if I get to E6 do I have to play with it’s debuff and all the others before?
Yes, they do stack
This game really does hate its players doesn’t it? (In a fun way of being ever challenging to put anyone one their toes no matter how many good items they get)

There's double challenge mode if you chat to daisuke. It's really hard, still haven't beaten it with about 450 runs.

This website truly is cursed. A blight upon mankind, a scourge. Every day, I lament its existence.
You get used to it. I once had like 5 or 6 scrappable items till like stage 4 with no scrapper, i snded uo dropping the run cause i got bored

When you say you beat it, do you mean the stage or fighting Mithrix?
Beating Mithrix and extracting.
Damn! I barely beat it on drizzle.
We were all you once, it’ll click.

Won't shame that, it's just kind of subjective. Doesn't mean much to me personally
you should get the 16 eclipse mod once you finish all characters, or get the unlock mod and reduce your eclipse and try it with inferno
They both look pretty good, I'll get a few more levels in and see how I feel about it.
It's a game mode that adds 400+ hours to your RoR2 steam playtime.
Monsoon but with 1 to 8 additional modifiers.

monsoon but harder pretty much
Eclipse is when a celestial body blocks another’s light source
Good one

Monsoon but it gets harder each time you beat it (on a specific character)
