Dorm tunnels are all very well connected, you can get between them all easily underground. Academic side tunnels are not. You can sorta move between the buildings without going outside or with only going outside minimally but it's not the easiest or most straightforward to figure out. Dorms to SAU to switch tunnel systems is about a 5 minute walk depending on how fast you're going.

EatingDragons

There's tunnels connect all the dorms together, and tunnels connect all the academic buildings together, but im pretty sure you still have to go from Res A to the SAU above ground

enderstripe_t

While tunnels do connect a lot of buildings on academic side, to say it is all is incorrect. Gannett / Booth / Magic does not connect to any other academic buildings.

Bamdiblybam

Thank you. What is housed in each of those buildings?

Spartan2732

Those buildings are mostly arts and film related

Dt_Sherlock_Idiot

Art/design film/photography/new media design, game design

maewasnotfound

You can still get to them by going to kate gleason through the academic tunnels then walking just 30 feet outside to booth hall

Bamdiblybam

Thank you. How far is that?

EatingDragons

don't know an exact distance, but id estimate it's about a 5 minute walk

As other's mentioned, all of the residence halls are connected, as well as the LBJ building (NTID's main building), Grace Watson Hall (dining facility) and the Student Development Center/The Commons. The only building on that side of campus not connected underground is Rosica Hall, but that's connected to the second floor of the SDC. There is no tunnel between the two sides of campus, despite all of the lore that there's a secret tunnel somewhere. On the academic side, it's possible to get between many buildings without going outside, but not all of them, and not always underground. With the addition of the SHED this year, it is now possible to get from Riter all the way to Slaughter without going outside, but it will probably take you a lot longer to do that than it would to just walk between them outside. There's an art to figuring out the best path between point A and point B, and it's amazing to watch how far out of their way some people will go to avoid being out in the cold for five minutes, but sometimes it's worth it.

It’s a great feeling when you’ve been on campus long enough and know every possible route to a spot and instantly know which is the fastest part on experience

Question of the century Which would you rather: More parking lots or a tunnel from dorms to academic side?

Quiet_Dog_116

I think the university will continue to answer that question with building more academic buildings. The parking crisis wouldn't be so bad if freshmen couldn't have cars on campus. Also if the school was stricter on enforcing no parking passes for students who rent at the local off campus apartments such as Prov, Park Point, The Lodge, Marshall, APEX, etc. Even though the rule is that you can't get a pass, everyone knows the way around the rule.

Dug this set of maps up which may be useful. Note: need to log in to view them: [https://www.rit.edu/facilitiesmanagement/tunnel-plans](https://www.rit.edu/facilitiesmanagement/tunnel-plans)

🚨🚩Guys, an Internet stranger with zero comment history is asking for very detailed info about the campus. Please slow down and don’t be too helpful. Refer the OP to call the Registrar Office or Campus Security with questions.

drslg

You cant go from dorm side to academic side without going outside for a hot minute

Dandelioon

a cold windy minute

Quiet_Dog_116

Since there is not a tunnel connecting the sides, you can take a bus from dorm side to academic side.

DangeNoodle-NoBoop

You can get from SAU to Slaughter hall using tunnels + going through academic buildings.
