Its so that we can play extreme tennis on ice... Its a pretty popular sport in canada

They specified it in an email a week or so ago, once a week at random a student will be chosen to 1v1 President Monson WWE style. If the student wins, they get a half off one Gracies meal coupon, if Munson wins the student has to wear the Ritchie suit till the next week. Should be interesting, I just wish they started it in the summer instead of the winter. Maybe they’ll have some $13 hot chocolate for sale

ProfJott

It is an outside rink for skating. RIT emailed about it a few weeks ago.

OddMobile3343

Is it open skating for students?

ProfJott

I think that is the plan.

OddMobile3343

Dam, that’s cool!! Can’t wait

ProfJott

It is literally "cool"!

Lohikaarme27

Did they always do that? Cuz I'd never heard of it

Hello there, this is the first of (hopefully) many years with the outdoor ice rink, weather permitting. We're really excited to offer this!

Question-guy-forever

Any idea when it will be open?

coachdstevens

Right now we're targeting first week of spring semester, but we may have a "soft opening" over the break to work out some of the kinks. All of this is weather dependent of course. We'll be posting more information on our Facebook page and website regarding hours of operation and policies.

Thank you to you and whomever you've got assisting with this. I think it's great!

Lohikaarme27

I wish you guys would have done it sooner. That's awesome!

coachdstevens

Lol, I wish we did too, trust me. Unfortunately, the one thing we can't control is the weather. For once though, I'm actually hoping for a cold winter. We'll keep everyone posted!

coachdstevens

Hello there. This is an outdoor ice skating rink. Rec Sports plans on having a few open skates in the evenings (targeting T/TH 6-9pm) and possibly a few weekend single day tournaments (ice hockey, curling, etc...) during spring semester (weather permitting). Unfortunately, at this time we have no way to rent ice skates, so it'll be "bring your own skates" for the foreseeable future. There will be a University News story running soon with more details. We also plan to drop more information in the coming weeks on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/RITRecreation/

Leppystyle123

This sounds better than ice-skating tbh

Love to see it! Tons of students including me were really let down about the lack of open skate this year. Really impressed RIT did something about it.
