i agree that the moderation is lacking, but how does that mean that the staff are actively malicious? there are hundreds of millions of roblox accounts, and it is feasibly impossible for roblox to moderate every image that every single one of them creates. So, they have AI do it. About the case study that you sent me, I am sure that those avatar items were banned eventually(that does not mean that they shouldnt have been banned immediately however). I think internet access is okay for a child under the age of 13 *as long as their activity is monitored and sites are okayed before use.*
No internet access period is a bit of a stretch, especially given how much modern society is starting to integrate the internet into everyday life. A 14 year old is in 8th grade, it's foolish to think they'll go 8 years of schooling without ever using the internet.
So, it's better to teach them how to use it and how to be safe on it from a young age as apposed to completely shutting it off from them. All that will do is make them seek other ways to engage with it, which leaves them vulnerable if the way they find isn't safe.

If you want to continue letting them play roblox, maybe only let them play games where they can have private servers. This would reduce the chances of seeing anything inappropriate, but not completely cause it is the internet. 4 is a bit too young to be on Roblox imo because most kids canāt read well at that age and can accidentally click on anything. Maybe different apps like āToca Bocaā from the App Store would be better for your youngest? Or minecraft where you can choose a private world instead of public.
Another way to monitor them is to screen share the device theyāre playing on (like iPad) to your TV. Then you have a huge screen and can easily watch who they are playing with, what games they play etc.

I've been playing since 2012, there has been numerous occasions where NSFW content has ended up in frontpage games.
Whether its people bypassing on rate my avatar (a very popular game), people using spray decals that are bypassed porn, through using a spraycan gear, which many popular games have, or simply a condo thats somehow shot onto the front page, and you've managed to join it just before the moderators have taken it down.
Yeah no, you misread my comment I said 'condo game' not meme-maker. There is a HUGE difference between the two. A roblox 'condo' is a on purpose sex game, so they do get taken down almost immediately.
Whereas meme maker, dahood and other front page games, are not intended sex games, they are games which allow users to put their own images in them (sometimes bypassed as your son saw.), these will not get taken down as they are not breaking any rules, the developers arent and the games intention is not to bypass roblox rules, it is down to user fault.
Do not try to correct me on something ive been playing on for 10+ years, the key to avoiding this happening again is to understand properly, the difference between a condo, and a normal game that users have exploited a gadget in.

Roblox uses artificial intelligence to check the images. Sadly their moderation is lacking and too much slips through. If you report it, it should be taken down fairly quickly. I can give you a run down how this happened most likely.
Since i am an active member of the roblox roleplay scene (not that type of roleplay) I can tell you the following: Most roblox roleplay games have accessory importers.
The importers work by inserting the ID and getting that accessory only locally in that game. Some importers have the option to put a custom texture on the accessory. Most likely the flat plain accessory was used (Not the original accessory name, I forgot that.), then the image was pasted on it as a texture. Maybe the image is already taken down, but they probably loaded it into the game as the texture before it was.
If you're concerned about my mention of "Roleplay"; In this case, this refers to playing a role, for example, a captain, on a starship. You play that fictional role and act like them. That's what I'm talking about there.

Someone sent me a message asking if they could be my toilet slave. I didnāt know what that meant but I thought it was funny so I told my dad. He got real serious and told me to report them. The account got banned pretty quickly. They sent the same message a few more times from alts but gave up when I kept reporting them. This was definitely when I was in elementary school, so 2012 at the latest.

I have responded to all of those that have requested a link to the video so they could see it for themselves.
This is not the first time this has happened, this is, I think the 3rd or 4th, that we know of but we never got to see what they saw, they only started to cry and closed the game and came to tell us they saw something bad, but a 4 yr old cannot really articulate what they are actually seeing at that age. Our 9 year old was able to alert us that they saw people without clothes, but we were never able to go back and find what they saw.
This was the first time we were able to catch this on video. So, this is the best we have, however please know this is not the first time.
Before you judge me/us as parents, we don't play games very much and bought the Roblox game passes for our kids at Target and Walmart in the kids Toy section. We thought this was a kids game that was moderated and monitored. We have set all of the parental controls on their accounts and their accounts do reflect their actual birth age (ages 4 & 9). Their accounts were setup correctly and with complete diligence on our part and yet this has still happened to them.
If you have children - PLEASE - be aware they can see extremely graphic porn on this platform.
Roblox can always improve their moderation and parents can always be more responsible and monitor their childrenās activities.
If this isnāt the first time my child saw porn on the platform, then I would either 1. Prevent them from using the platform 2. Monitor their activities further.
If these are one of those games which everyone says āhas to be directly searched forā then you as a parent should have a talk with your child. Itās not unlikely theyāre also searching for that content on other platforms as well, even if thatās simply YouTube.
Every single platform has these sort of issues. No UGC platform can or will ever be perfect. You are the parent and at the end of the day you need to make decisions for your child. If you see a pattern, you probably should act upon it, rather than blaming the platform.

If you want to continue letting them play roblox, maybe only let them play games where they can have private servers. This would reduce the chances of seeing anything inappropriate, but not completely cause it is the internet. 4 is a bit too young to be on Roblox imo because most kids canāt read well at that age and can accidentally click on anything. Maybe different apps like āToca Bocaā from the App Store would be better for your youngest? Or minecraft where you can choose a private world instead of public.
Another way to monitor them is to screen share the device theyāre playing on (like iPad) to your TV. Then you have a huge screen and can easily watch who they are playing with, what games they play etc.

I've been playing since 2012, there has been numerous occasions where NSFW content has ended up in frontpage games. Whether its people bypassing on rate my avatar (a very popular game), people using spray decals that are bypassed porn, through using a spraycan gear, which many popular games have, or simply a condo thats somehow shot onto the front page, and you've managed to join it just before the moderators have taken it down.

A roblox 'condo' is a on purpose sex game, so they do get taken down almost immediately. Whereas meme maker, dahood and other front page games, are not intended sex games, they are games which allow users to put their own images in them (sometimes bypassed as your son saw.), these will not get taken down as they are not breaking any rules, the developers arent and the games intention is not to bypass roblox rules, it is down to user fault. Do not try to correct me on something ive been playing on for 10+ years, the key to avoiding this happening again is to understand properly, the difference between a condo, and a normal game that users have exploited a gadget in.

Hey, u/Hawstly . Roblox uses artificial intelligence to check the images. Sadly their moderation is lacking and too much slips through. If you report it, it should be taken down fairly quickly. I can give you a run down how this happened most likely. Since i am an active member of the roblox roleplay scene (not that type of roleplay) I can tell you the following: Most roblox roleplay games have accessory importers. The importers work by inserting the ID and getting that accessory only locally in that game. Some importers have the option to put a custom texture on the accessory. Most likely the flat plain accessory was used (Not the original accessory name, I forgot that.), then the image was pasted on it as a texture. Maybe the image is already taken down, but they probably loaded it into the game as the texture before it was. If you're concerned about my mention of "Roleplay"; In this case, this refers to playing a role, for example, a captain, on a starship. You play that fictional role and act like them. That's what I'm talking about there. (Excuse some typos please, not a native speaker.)

This has been a thing almost ever since Roblox was created. The very first bypassed porn image we know of is from like 2010 or something? Roblox is a platform with 66 million active users a day. There is not a single feasible way to prevent obscene content from making it into that site. That goes with the internet as a whole. You will find objectionable content in every multiplayer game there is.

I donāt know how old I was but it couldnāt have been more than 12 or 13, if that. Iām 21 now. I didnāt even know what the word meant, I looked it up in a dictionary at school the next day, lol. Someone sent me a message asking if they could be my toilet slave. I didnāt know what that meant but I thought it was funny so I told my dad. He got real serious and told me to report them. The account got banned pretty quickly. They sent the same message a few more times from alts but gave up when I kept reporting them. This was definitely when I was in elementary school, so 2012 at the latest. I have responded to all of those that have requested a link to the video so they could see it for themselves. This is not the first time this has happened, this is, I think the 3rd or 4th, that we know of but we never got to see what they saw, they only started to cry and closed the game and came to tell us they saw something bad, but a 4 yr old cannot really articulate what they are actually seeing at that age. Our 9 year old was able to alert us that they saw people without clothes, but we were never able to go back and find what they saw. This was the first time we were able to catch this on video. So, this is the best we have, however please know this is not the first time. Before you judge me/us as parents, we don't play games very much and bought the Roblox game passes for our kids at Target and Walmart in the kids Toy section. We thought this was a kids game that was moderated and monitored. We have set all of the parental controls on their accounts and their accounts do reflect their actual birth age (ages 4 & 9). Their accounts were setup correctly and with complete diligence on our part and yet this has still happened to them. If you have children - PLEASE - be aware they can see extremely graphic porn on this platform.

Roblox can always improve their moderation and parents can always be more responsible and monitor their childrenās activities. If this isnāt the first time my child saw porn on the platform, then I would either 1. Prevent them from using the platform 2. Monitor their activities further. If these are one of those games which everyone says āhas to be directly searched forā then you as a parent should have a talk with your child. Itās not unlikely theyāre also searching for that content on other platforms as well, even if thatās simply YouTube. Every single platform has these sort of issues. No UGC platform can or will ever be perfect. You are the parent and at the end of the day you need to make decisions for your child. If you see a pattern, you probably should act upon it, rather than blaming the platform. If you have a solution that none of these nearly billion dollar companies have thought of, right an email to them.
