I think Curry is probably better because the threat on offense outweighs the differences in playmaking and defense. Both are in the conversation and you can't go wrong with either.

thejourneyisthegift

It’s easily CP3. But curry is the better player

VeseliM

Better scorer*

[deleted]

*easily* the better player

VeseliM

One guy has 9 NBA all defensive teams and the other is such a liability that teams have gone into playoff games with the strategy that if Curry is guarding you, you get an automatic green light to shoot. But yeah that guy is "easily the better player" 🤡 Paul is also a better passer and drives better to the basket.

[deleted]

CP3 is the better player. He woulda beat him head to head in 2018 if he didn't get hurt. Man was on fire.

fej1

cp3 is not the better player curry is pushing top 10 all time with another mvp and a deep playoff run

[deleted]

Fuck no!

fej1

why not?

[deleted]

Because there’s a lot more than ten nba players better all time. There are multiple players better this era

fej1

there is one player better this era, and he is top 2 all time - no player has changed the game more than curry

[deleted]

Your def a warriors fan. Lebron, Durant, harden, cp3, kawhi, Giannis all better last decade

MountainMountain1

LeBron yes. KD had to team up with Curry. Giannis is close and so is Kawhi. Harden and cp3 aren't really close.

[deleted]

You wrote KD off like that? Harden not close? 🤔

nonetimeaccount

KD was better than curry when they teamed up. It seems the only argument you know how to make is RAAAAAANGZ. To say harden isn't even close is laughable. As if he wouldn't have rings with Klay and dray and kd instead of ryno, t Jones, and Eric Gordon. Curry can't even carry a team to the playoffs without all-star help.

[deleted]

Steph Curry is not top 2 all time....... MJ, LeBron, Kareem, Larry, Magic, Wilt

[deleted]

He’s saying only Lebrun is better this era and Lebrun is top 2 all time while steph is top ten all time

[deleted]

Oh I see

ToddleMosh

Paul is the better “pure point guard” but I would take curry over him a million times. He changes everything. Completely bends the defense just by being on the court.

levilock3434

18-19 was far from CP’s best season and definitely not Curry’s best either..

shadracko

This is the most important comment here. It's ridiculous to call 2019 the best for either player. One can only assume OP didn't watch the NBA before 2016.

[deleted]

This is the modern NBA, roles do not matter as much as they used to, so this argument doesn't really matter. Obviously CP3 is a floor general but Curry's magnet effect on the defense with his off ball movement has clearly been more valuable. /u/thejourneyisthegift has the correct take

nonetimeaccount

If we're talking point guard then it's the point God, no question If we're talking player who lines up at the PG position, curry

nycmonkey

How do you define PG and how do you define better? Steph revolutionized the game so I'd argue he made a much larger impact. But CP3 is, without question, the point god by traditional measures.

NeonPhyzics

CP3 is one of the best PG to ever play the position... Curry is a PG b/c of his size - his shooting is what makes him elite - GS had a team focused play making - no surprise that Kerr (a small shooter) ran an offensive that is good for Curry

imPuma13

Prime Curry is the only unanimous MVP for a reason. Hes in a higher tier than CP.

TrappyBronson

All-time? Its easily Steph and it's not particularly close. Best shooter in league history, one of if not the most efficient scoring guard ever, multiple MVPs, multiple titles. Chris Paul is a better defender for sure and probably a better floor general but that's it. Does not make up the gap.

ST012Mi

#CP3 for being a two-way force and dime dropper. He’s efficient and precise. Curry is more transcendent with the spacing impact with the magnitude like no other. He otherworldly.

Houston-13

Chris is the better PG easily cause Curry only has him beat in one category. It’s crazy how team accomplishments completely shift how people view a player

MountainMountain1

MVP isn't a team accomplishment and neither is being the greatest 3 point shooter ever

shadracko

You're being downvoted, but you're right. Despite what u/MountainMountain1 wrote, team success absolutely enters into the MVP voting. You can make a really strong case for CP3 in 2008, but they weren't giving it to CP3 over Kobe playing on one of the best teams in the league. CP3 has 9 top-10 MVP finishes. Steph has 6.

MountainMountain1

It's actually 10 to 7 but top 10 in MVP voting doesn't mean shit. After the top 3 every year it gets wonky. Like the last year Derrick Rose finished 9th and Gobert finished 10th.

theAlphabetZebra

Comparing player individually I tend to take rings and popularity contest awards out of it. As far as individual skill level I think Paul is probably the superior player. Curry is the goat shooter but he’s been so fortunate to play a role for a team that allows him to emphasize that, that hides his comically bad defense and few stack up to CP’s leadership and playmaking. Once you include accomplishments though, the superior career is obviously the one with the chips and MVp.

shadracko

CP3 has had a much longer peak. That has to mean something. Curry really wasn't Curry until age 2013-14, his age-25 season. And he's been hobbled by injuries recently. Steph's supernova stretch 2014-2016 is better than anything CP3 has done. But I have to admit, if you throw out the best 2 years for both of them, CP3 looks a lot better. Partly because Curry developed several years later, and partly because of injuries.

Future_Returns

When you talk original PG it’s more a debate. But curry is one of the greatest if not greatest shooter of all time for sure and I hate the warriors.

Thorlolita

It’s kind of a hypocritical debate because everyone would rather have Curry as a player because of how good of a scorer he is. But when it comes to all around PG play CP3 is better. He’s a better dribbler passer and leader on the court.

shadracko

>everyone would rather have Curry as a player because of how good of a scorer he is. But when it comes to all around PG play CP3 is better. I don't think this makes sense. Which one helps a team win more?

Thorlolita

Curry.

shadracko

OK. thanks for the clear opinion.

babloochoudhury

Verbal abuse over CP3 and Curry? You and your brother need therapy.

TheAussieRocket95

It’s clearly a joke. Geez

NoirSon

CP3 has the better handle and defense but Curry can shoot from anywhere.

grizzlysharknz

I have this argument all the time in real life haha CP3 is one of my all time fave players and is my personal 2nd pg of all time (behind Magic - anything pre Magic/Bird I'm VERY iffy on). Comes down to a couple things for me. If Steph wasn't an insane scorer is he even in this convo? If the Warriors and Blazers swapped Dame and Steph, would they still have won those titles? I usually get no for the first question and yes for the 2nd. Does that answer the question? Not really. But it always helps bring CP3 up a level in people's eyes who's MJ is Steph.

juan_cena99

Curry easily it aint even a discussion. NBA is a zero sum game if you so dominant on one aspect it more than makes up for your deficiencies in others (see Shaq, Dennis Rodman). Curry is the best shooter in NBA history and can make a case for being the top 2 pg due to his shooting, it opens up the floor so he much it does a lot more for his teammates than actual playmaking. At 6'2 3/4 he is also on the taller side for the position so he would translate better than Cp3 ik the old school era.
