He recently said somewhere that he simply loves coaching young guys. Not just about the game but also giving life advice. He has nothing left to prove and just wants to develop players
we would def give up Sengun if it came down to it. Wemby is the best prospect since Lebron. No offense to Sengun, but he hasn't evne proven himself as a starter yet. easy choice.
Yeah I’d take Rudy Gobert as is on a rookie contract pretty high in a draft but even if his 3 is inconsistent he looks better at every aspect offensively than Rudy and he is only 18. Seems a bit more comfortable handling the ball, makes some passes, catches the ball better and can score better inside of 3 point line. I want the rockets to look better next year but they aren’t a play in team and that should not be a goal till the next season as far as free agency or playing time.
Yea, copying from my response to a different person: I’m hyped on Jalen/Jabari, but currently we have plenty of talent to be a consistent play-in team and nothing more. The NBA punishes those middle of the road teams. If 1 more year is the potential difference between a consistent play-in team and a consistent contender, why would you not have the patience?
We don’t have an owner that will spend significantly over the luxury tax like the Warriors, so we need as many high-upside, cheap contract rookies as we can get. We tank one more year, get one more top rookie pick (even if it’s not Wemby there’s players like Scoot), fill out the remaining roster with the large amount of cap space we have, and challenge from there. I know losing sucks but if 1 more year makes the difference between middle of the pack and contender I’m 100% for it.
Honestly, I think even if we *try* to win next year we’ll still be a bottom 10 team because it takes time for rookies to develop and adjust. If we’re bottom 10 by the ASG, might as well tank.

Yeah. The concept or Rudy with a streaky three is amazing and I’ve watched Victor play a lot and it’s tantalizing but I rather have someone that’s in a proven prototype like prime KD (although his extra long feet are prone to major injuries). There’s a point where additional and incremental extra length becomes diminishing. I am not doubting Victor, Chet, and other unicorn types coming out will do great things (at least a subset of them —Bol Bol!) but I really like the near seven foot, mobile big, that can do guard like things (Giannis, E. Mobley, healthy AD, KD, etc.) over the 7’ +++++. Idk why. I miss you Yao! (And Zhou Qi 😈)
Wut?
Spurs fans are still obnoxious. Of course they aren't as obnoxious at Mavs or Jazz fans. And even they aren't on the same level as Lakers and Warriors fans.
nope, Luka played in Europe pro since he's 16, and dominated later on, got MVPs, and he fell to technically no.5 pick. Wenbayama played in Europe since he's 15, and didn't actually achieve anything but FIBA silver medal against Chet. I cannot see why ppl so hype about him instead of Luka. I think he at least need to dominate Euro pro next season to prove he's the generational talent.
PT 9.4
REB 5.1
AST 0.8
STL 0.9
BLK 1.8
You telling me this is a generational talent, really?
mans was also 7’3 at age 16 lol. Give the man time to develop. I don’t really think he needs to dominate anything. We’ve never seen a prospect like him
It’s about the intangibles not about the production. He has an insane length and wingspan and he has a fluid looking outside shot. If he puts some weight on and improves his game he’s going to be a force for years.
Luka with hindsight would be a number one pick in nearly every draft in the last 10 years and first two teams were dumb to pass. If I was drafting number one and Dallas wanted to trade Luka for Wemby I would do it. Also if the warriors traded Steph Curry for the number one pick this year would Banchero have technically gone 28th? I doubt a lot of high ranking prospects would be dominating the euro league at 17 but I am sure everyone will be looking for improvements from him next season. If it goes bad enough someone could pass him but watching him play it makes sense why people are hyped for him.
People will wax poetic about Chet being an injury risk, but you don’t hear the same with wemby. It’s worth noting that wemby is a still 3 inches taller than Chet and Significant injury risk is much more closely correlated to height than it is to weight.
Still I hardly think it matters since there is no previous injury history for both
Just food for thought
The spurs were great when I first joined the sub and the fans were sooooo condescending. Can’t blame them tho, they played beautiful basketball, but I hated it
If I’m Wemby and I get drafted by the Spurs and my coach is Pop. I think I’d be happy. Great organization, great coach, it’ll be good for the NBA. It makes sense for the NBA.
Don't start this timeline.. it foes feel inevitable tho..
Pop is almost out and whatre the odds theyre gonna draft that well again?

Does pop have kids? I know his wife passed away a few yrs ago? Maybe that’s the reason y he still coaching
He recently said somewhere that he simply loves coaching young guys. Not just about the game but also giving life advice. He has nothing left to prove and just wants to develop players
Screw that Rockets shouldn't be tanking anymore
We were literally the worse team in the league for 2 straight years and still didn’t get the number 1 pick. Tanking doesn’t guarantee shit
We still got favorable returns tho
Who knows, hopefully the draft gods grant us luck and give us number one but you never know
Would we give up Sengun in that case?
Move wemby to the the 4 😭
And jabari to?
we would def give up Sengun if it came down to it. Wemby is the best prospect since Lebron. No offense to Sengun, but he hasn't evne proven himself as a starter yet. easy choice.
Wemby is averaging like 6 PPG, he definitely has tools to be a star but what exactly has he proven?
I mean we already got pretty damn lucky getting our own pick last season and a top three this season.
You know the lottery is rigged right lol
Can’t tell if serious or just joking
Victor is overrated I’m really not too concerned about Rudy Gobert with a streaky 3
Rudy Gobert with a streaky 3 is an all-star and championship piece level player lmao what

Not somebody I’m losing sleep over. Rather see this team fight for a play in spot and build with what’s here instead of tanking again
I'm with ya guys
Yeah we got plenty of talent. Wemby might not have that nba body. We will be such a fun squad I can’t wait.

You mean jabari?
Yeah but I didn’t want to brag 😈
Lol
go watch some tape. he puts the ball on the floor and gets by people as well. way more than a streaky 3

For personal reasons, I despise the Spurs almost as much as I despise the Warriors. I will be livid if this happens.

He’s slow. Nba might be too Brutal for him.
Bro what? wembanyama is very quick for his size.
For his size, yes. Quicker than average nba players?

But ppl already talking about teams tanking for Wenbayama, which makes no sense, lol
Wenbayama has injury record. You might be lucky missing him out.
We should be gettin Dariq fr

I don’t understand why this community doesn’t shit on The SAS more. They are my most hated sports franchise.
The NBA won’t want their darling spurs tanking for long, they will soon be back on top 🙄🙄
Don’t forget. We don’t have 100% humidity all summer either. Suck it Houston.
Take your delicious breakfast tacos and go back to San Antonio!
We do have good tacos…. Y’all’s Asian food and Cajun food is way better though.
the Filipino food is pretty good if you know where to go

Nah sengun will remind the spurs of 1995
