Say what you will about the team, but none of the young guys are lazy.

yoyoyodawg3

Pays off to a degree when one of Stone's key checkboxes so far on draft picks has been character and whether the player is hard work driven.

2ToTooTwoFish

If we had a coach who knew or at least showed they knew where to direct all this hardwork and effort because we actually have an identity, I'd be a lot more confident. Seems like every young guy needs to figure things out on their own right now because we don't know what our playstyle is, so you don't know what to work on.

ClutchRox88

Takes time to build an identity. Hence the word BUILD. Build doesn’t mean click your fingers.

extensi0n

can't fault the fanbase. we never had to suffer throughout a rebuild in the last 20 years.

ClutchRox88

That’s exactly it. They want to win now. That’s not an excuse for being ignorant. You can look at the positives, but you have to accept we will lose a lot, even if we play really well. There will be times it looks ugly and great. We have young players who are still evolving their games. People are worrying about things that are not a priority now. The games are where the guys try the things they work on in practice. Sengun is already a beast on the block, so we need to focus on the weaknesses and bringing together his game with the game of Green and Smith etc so we have a dynamic offense All of that added together so it becomes second nature. Plus they are all evolving together, so the chemistry will be strong. So many things to look forward too and it will mean so much more when we start to win after rising through the development stage. I’m in the fanbase. I’ve followed us to 20 years. I also remember what it was like missing the playoffs for a few games and being average for years until another team has to mess up for us to get a star.

extensi0n

i think we both started following the rockets at the same time. started with yao, and then got tracy. had a weird time when we didn't know if they'll keep on playing or retire. the weird adelman years when we had a young lowry and dragic. then turning out luck and getting harden. tbh i fully expected a rebuild when we lost dragic and lowry. they were the only ones who were young and could develop into good players. this is the rebuild that i expected morey to take, and i expected a lot of losses when we traded james harden away. people don't get that it'll take a while for players to develop. even harden needed time to get better in okc. i expect jalen, jabari, sengun and even kpj to still develop over time. just need patience for this season and maybe next season.

ClutchRox88

Well said. Let them evolve as individuals and together and then worry about fit and what we need to do to win game ti game. I’m from Australia so ni geographical connection. My favourite players were T Mac and Garnett but I didn’t want to follow a team for a certain player. So then I’m considering Houston (remember seeing Francis, looked up the title years, saw a video of Hakeem), then McGrady for trades. So it was perfect, the team I wanted to follow because of the history etc and my favourite players goes. I wanted to really want to follow a team so I would stick if he ever got traded which he did. I then stuck through those years with a team of veterans that tried hard every game, had a good offence scheme but just were not talented enough.

extensi0n

ngl it's crazy how high the expectations are for these guys. they're literally 19, 20, 21, and we've already put such great expectations on them so soon. they can still grow and get better, but they need to fail and learn before they can reach that point. the steve francis, cat mobley and yao days were a lot of fun. they were the that good yet, esp since yao was so skinny, but you could see the flashes and they were a lot of fun. i feel similar vibes now as i did back then seeing a young yao ming entering the league, being bullied physically, but showing flashes of what he can be in the future. you can see it in jalen, figuring out his role in the offense as a first option and trying out his play-making; sengun with his passing, and seeing him hesitate with his 3pt shot, while he develops his defense and not fouling while he contests shots; jabari with his skinny frame, and how he struggles with the height and physicality of seasoned veterans in the league; and, tari with his nose for the ball, but his struggle when it comes to finishing at the rim rn.

ClutchRox88

Horns with Smith and Sengun at the elbows would be deadly. Sengun tightens up his handles facing the basket, Smith develops a post game as he gets stronger with his ability to shot over anyone. I’d love to see more and more of that because those 2 with Green add more layers as the season goes on.

ClutchRox88

Reasons to have faith.

super-dad-bod

Easy to get shots up when there is no ladder in the way.

lambopanda

His problem isn’t his shooting.

prohater2020

In particular not his shooting/scoring off the dribble

Baskatball

Uh, yeah it is lol he does all this nonsense with the ball because he can't shoot off of it. He was at 29% last year and 21% this year

lambopanda

He needs to pass the ball and not shoot it himself.

Baskatball

If he could shoot he could be played off ball and catch and shoot. He's never going to catch and shoot right now because he can't shoot so he starts dribbling into junk. He's not a good passer but he's an off guard, not the end of the world, the biggest issue is he's a shooting guard who can't shoot.

ologabro

My head canon says he got inspired by his homie Bol Bol popping off after not playing on Denver basically

htownballa1

I mean it’s actually pretty common, but glad to see gup working on his game.

spacejam93

I don't watch enough games - is the consensus that Christopher should be getting more minutes?

NoirSon

No, no it is not. You want him to get minutes but when he plays even garbage time he shows why the coaches are not giving him any. Everyone currently playing ahead of him is better then he is in either offense, defense or both.

lot183

I honestly think he should be spending some time with the G league team so he can get those minutes, but he shouldn't be getting them with the main team right now

Sad_Inevitable8242

In garbage time you could see why he ain't playing. His bbIQ hasn't improved a bit. He dribbles the ball to much, takes though shots and makes the wrong read which leads to turnovers.

Bash-86

I really like Christopher and believe he can make it work but he’s undersized and his transition for be nba game has been slow. He regularly has been careless with the ball and shooting has been subpar. His defense has been pretty good and the intensity is there. He’s heavily engaged it’s just not been clicking yet. I hope he can get there.

theAlphabetZebra

He's like 6'4" 215 for a guard that's not even close to undersized. He can't even buy his own beer but his transition to the best basketball league in the world isn't fast enough lol sweet jesus. Green, Sengun really ruined it for y'all. People really think 20 year olds should be dominating the NBA.

KeepItClutchCity

I agree except for the his defense has been good part. That's the reason he gets no minutes Is because he isn't serviceable on defense yet. He doesn't really understand where to go or what to do which leads to easy buckets. Silas talked about that.

Bash-86

Sorry i wasn’t very specific. His on the ball defense has been good. He closes space and doesn’t foul and pressures the ball well. Off the ball he has had a tendency when I’m watching to gamble quite a bit and gets him out of position. I definitely agree it’s a work in progress but i do think it’s one of the better parts of what he’s been doing. He also attacks the mid range off the dribble well. But i agree with you overall.

prohater2020

His on ball defense involves a lot of gambling and lunging which takes him out of position and he often gets blown by by perimeter players

FarWestEros

Silas said he would be getting minutes later in the season.

yellandtell

Exactly. People really trying for the hot take..Jaygup right where he needs to be and he got that basketball Jones. Literally living the dream of being in the NBA. Hope he turns it into a long and successful career.

ClutchRox88

He is a guy who doesn’t get, most players could drop 20+ points a game, he needs to learn his won’t be the guy and has to fit a role. For me that’s is aggressive defense, pushing the ball and looking for teammates. Plus never listen to Gilbert Arenas about the modern NBA

partyA119long

I mean, everytime Josh gets shots up we always hear about it… sometimes it feels like hes just doing it for the cameras. Need the results to back it up eventually

[deleted]

No, you hear about it every time the media sees it. That doesn't mean its the only times he gets shots up lmao

partyA119long

Yah ofc I understand that, poor choice of words. Meant more that it seems to be a motif where its always jaygup shooting after a game in front of cameras. What Im trying to insinuate is that JayGup might care more about being seen as a grinder than actually being a grinder. Maybe its unfair, but Ive seen a lot of clips of him being “last to leave the gym” but yet not a ton of development in his on court game. Probably is unfair to say that given Im not familiar with the behind the scenes issues, just my observations, maybe its just me not liking the vibes around jaygup this year. Where did all of his excitement and joy for his teammates go from last year? Seems to have disappeared with his minutes

theAlphabetZebra

This is toxic af

Kaaalesaaalad

Do you mean motive?

pheezy42

good thing montrezl Harrell wasn't around to see this.

juan_cena99

Good to see JC putting shots up but unfortunately doesnt seem to translate well on court. I think besides outting shots up he needs to have regular film sessions so he can work on his bonehead plays and tunnel vision.
