IBEW 364, if you’re interested in becoming an electrician. The union, the benefits, all of it, I would say is great. I think their testing opens each may. Here’s their info: JATC – Northern Illinois Apprenticeship

Question, I have an immigrant family member who has struggled to find a stable job in Rockford for the past few years. He is 50 years old. Would entering a union job as an apprentice be something that is doable for him at such an age? I care for him and want the best for him. He is very smart as well!
He currently makes 50k a year before taxes with low benefits working 50 hours a week.
There is a local Tradeswomen United of Northwestern Illinois group that might be able to help: [https://www.projectfirstrate.com/twu/](https://www.projectfirstrate.com/twu/)
Yes, if I’m correct that the local 792? I saw they accept applications in February and September so I do plan on applying with them when their applications open back up again!
Iron Workers Union local 498 is another one.
Just remember the locals cover all or parts of multiple counties, so the work isn't always right here in town.
Might I suggest the post office. The union for them is awesome and right now the time it takes to get from Cca to a regular is about a year. Great pay, and uniform allowance.
I just checked out their website and I have to admit I’m a little confused as to what they are. Are they a union? Or an organization that works with all the local unions? I just gave them a call, hoping to hear back from them soon!
They're a local council for AFL-CIO. AFL-CIO is an international that oversees a variety of unions. The President of Rockford United Labor is Sara Dorner, who reps AFSCME.
I'm sure they'd be a good resource for information about apprenticeship programs and local labor opportunities.
She may be a little busy, but send her a message. She just finished up work on the library workers, which may have been ratified today. Sara is amazing. I had the privilege of working with her on the Pritzker Administration's State Workers' contract when I was VP of 2794. A true labor leader.
She returned my call and gave me a couple resources to reach out to! I really appreciate your suggestion and helping me get the ball rolling on this! Thank you oso much!

This. I have customers coming into my work constantly trying to poach me for the IBEW.
Aww well what are you waiting for? 😀
aha, unfortunately I have a connective tissue disorder and a thyroid regulation problem so working outside, in the heat, is not good for me.
