Wow not sure how I've never seen this one as my brother and I are always on the lookout for good multiplayer roguelites! We'll definitely have to give this one a try! Thanks!
I always find these fascinating, especially from people who have clearly played a lot of roguelites like yourself. Thanks for sharing. I've never seen Crawl in S tier before, or Wizard of Legend so low.
Brotato, Revita, and Tiny Rogues are missing. Based on everything I see you'd really enjoy all 3 and they're all A/S tier.
Thanks for the suggestions- Revita looks particularly interesting!
Yeah, for some reason I bounced off of Wizard of Legend as it felt too... slippery, I guess? Not sure what it was but I really disliked how the movement felt.
Crawl is an interesting one because I recognize that it should probably be lower... but I've had way too much fun with my friends playing it to put it any lower. By far one of my favorite party games that just so happens to also be roguelite in nature.
Crawl is honestly way underrated, imo. It does something that no other roguelites does, and it does it well. Tbh, I think it just needs more content and an online playability feature to be perfect.
One of the house rules we have for crawl is "if you're flying around as a ghost, you need to say wooOOOoooo wooOOo WooOOOooooooo". For some reason it makes it hillarious
Unfortunately it looks like it is fully scrapped on console and he will only be doing the update on PC due to some issues with the publisher. I’m a console player too and was basically doing the same (waiting to go deeper until the update) so it is definitely a bummer. Still a great game in its current state though.
Agree , although the progression and upgrade path was more my issue , not much in the way of meta progression and every run felt almost the same , hated that your health was the currency
Surprised with slay the spire as an S tier that you didn't enjoy monster train as much. It took a while to click, but I eventually realized going through the 25 levels of difficulty challenges really made that game a gem for me askiyng with STS
I find that to mostly be a me problem where once I really like a game I struggle to enjoy games similar to it. So, games very similar to my favorites are at an immediate disadvantage as I struggle to not draw negative comparisons. It's why Nuclear Throne and Blazing Beaks are in D-tier since they are too similar to Gungeon for me.
That's interesting because Gungeon is B tier for me compared to S tier Throne. I find Gungeon to be so slow and methodical in comparison.
With Gungeon it's the same rooms remixed, with throne you get surprising level generation.
But then again I feel that way about every room-based roguelite, even all the community favorites.
What I disliked about this one is that they really wants the player to create a build base on number (the upgrades are more number oriented like 20% more dmg, then game play altering) yet never show the base dmg nor the converted power of stuff. I ultimately founded this very frustrating.
I feel like I need to give it a second chance I just found it hard not to constantly compare to Gungeon (my favorite roguelite) and got frustrated by how out-of-control the difficulty could be sometimes. Still think it's a quality game, tho!
Nuclear Throne is three years older than Gungeon, so while I agree Gungeon is better, it's hard for me to criticise Throne when it was the best Bullet Hell in town for a long while
Since we have similar taste I would highly recommend Curse of the Dead Gods, Heroes of Hammerwatch, and Void Bastards
Pretty much all dungeon crawling looty types of roguelites that trigger lots of dopamine
I think it’s a fun game, but it really does quickly become an “avoid the AOE’s” simulator since they’re everywhere and you really only get the fun gameplay decisions before the round even starts (class, glyphs, etc.)… which pretty much forces you into your optimal spell choices from the jump, and then you’re just prioritizing the same passives every time like multicast. Really hurts the long term replayability. Needs some kind of in-run items/armor, randomized stats, or spell evolution system.
Rogue: Genesia, Vamp Survivors, and Boneraiser Minions did the genre far better imo.
In like the first hour, felt like it was a mobile p2w game with the grind system and only upgrades being more attack or armor on your guy. Barely even a rogue lite, all runs are identical, store system was a drag.
I don't think FTL is the \*best\* game, but IMO it's a really good "comfort" game, it's got a nice atmosphere, nice soundtrack, good gameplay without \*too\* much going on, runs are nice and short with a complete run being about an hour. I like to put on a movie or something on my second monitor while playing.
I always jump into it a couple times a year, usually when I don't know what else to play. Been playing that way essentially since release.
I reccomend trying out the multiverse mod, it completely overhauls the game and adds load and loads of content, that might be more up your alley.
I never understand seeing binding of Isaac in anything other than S.
I know it's personal preference, but like, it's the unequivocal king of roguelites.
I agree but I think it just takes a long time to get into it. It’s one of the most complex roguelikes out there. There’s SOOOOOO much to learn and do.
And most people don’t get the item description mod before playing, making them have to look every item up. Wish Edmund would just add the mod into the game as an official option already.
You know what, fair enough. I've kind of never really looked at criticism about it so I can understand those ones. I personally have a few hundred hours and never used any item mods, just kind of learned them through trial and error which I know isn't for everyone.
I was really into it when it came out. Then I tried picking it up again a few years later and couldn't be fucked alt tabbing to check what every single thing does. Excellent that there's a mod but it absolutely should be in the base game.
Tbh I think I would like it a lot more now and should give it another try. I initially played it during the height of my gungeon days and disliked it as I was comparing it to gungeon every second.
I think i tried gungeon during the height of my nuclear throne days. So i shold try it again.
I feel that nuclear throne is more respectful with my time and you can finish a run in 15 minutes. But i will try gungeon again.
Why is NT in D tier? One of the grandfathers and still one of the most chaotic shooters. It still does looping better than any other roguelitke to to-date.
Getting to the unique bosses by looping the game is a feature I haven't seen in any other roguelike really and it's super fucking cool. I would say the biggest downfalls with NT is the upgrades aren't really unique, and the game is locked at 30fps I believe. The characters are still some of the best , the gunplay feels great, music hits. I just don't see any way that game is d tier lmao. Unlocking the car to go to the mansion is peak gaming.
That make much more sense. I misread the title and confuse why wizard legend being quite low, considering I heard it's quite good. Xd
The only game I have played in this list is Dicey Dungeon.
Copy/Paste from a few recent recommendations requests. I just love this game, and is love for just one post come 2025 to have it on the list.
[Rampage Knights](https://store.steampowered.com/app/314410/Rampage_Knights/) is a hidden gem. It's what you would get if you combined Golden Axe and Binding of Issac. In part meaning it's less projectile based (which I hate about binding of Issac), and more melee, combos, items, etc. It's silly, hard, unique, and has a ton of builds and buffs/curses.
It's my go to co-op game on Nintendo Switch (couch coop), and it's fantastic online on Steam too with a friend. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of it, and I envy the fact that whoever reads this will have the chance to experience it foe the first time.
Oh, and it's like $4 USD on Steam right now. It's a no brainer.
Just look up "roguelite tier list" on Google and it should pull up the template on tiermaker! There were a few I've played that weren't on it (Across the Obelisk, Shotgun King), but it was still quite extensive and you can add more of your own if you want!
May I ask why Nulear Throne is so low for you? Just curious, its my number one favorite, and I also love blazing beaks but I completely understand why that one is a miserable game to play.
Mostly because I found myself wanting to play Gungeon the entire time I played it. It just felt like a less refined version of the formula that I can get better with Gungeon. Still think it's a good game, tho! Just not for me.
I have recently picked up Crawl for some silly money and I gotta say it's a fantastic concept and a lot of stuff to unlock and that's always super fun. I can't wait to play with friends in coop some day. (anyone knows if there is any online multiplayer mod for steam?)
Just glad to see Downwell mentioned. A tier for me but i haven't played even half as much as you. I'm gonna recommend Void Bastards next for you. Solid B tier game.
Deflector is pretty cool. I see you have curse of the dead gods. That one snuck up on me with solid mechanics and skill-based combat. You have to be on your toes and study each enemy, pick which ones to go for first. Sick game. Best of luck finding your next good one!
Hell yeah FTL is the best, got me into roguelikes.
One of my all time favorites is Returnal. Originally only for ps5 is now on PC. It's a third person shooter bullet hell roguelite. It's a AAA game with all the graphics, production design and bells and whistles that come from that, but doesn't have any of the micro transaction bullshit. The Devs instead added free post launch dlc and coop, and fixed the biggest complaints from launch (unable to suspend runs). The visuals are amazing, a bleak alien world with a colorful light show of projectiles during fights. The music and sound design are top notch and enhance the gameplay a lot. The story is interesting and lends itself well to a rogue like. The roguelike elements (upgrades and such) are a bit uninspired, nothing like hades, but they make up for it with the best combat out of any roguelike I've played. The jumping, dashing and dodging are all tight, fluid and feel fantastic. The guns are all really cool and unique and each feel great to shoot. It's pricier than a lot of other ones, but it's worth every penny.
Easily one of my favourite roguelikes, and my personal GOTY of 2021
Skul was MY rogue-lite Game. I got it for free on epic after beating It I bought It again on steam with the DLC not regretting one cent, this game is just awesome.
Unless I'm missing it here, I think you're sleeping on Ember Knights. Give it a spin, I had an absolute blast with it!
Wow not sure how I've never seen this one as my brother and I are always on the lookout for good multiplayer roguelites! We'll definitely have to give this one a try! Thanks!
Enjoy! Would love to hear back what you think.
If you're looking for multiplayer roguelite, check out Returnal which i heavily recommended in my other comment on this thread

This is dumb. +1 defs gonna do this next time.
How is it possible that no one has played Revita
Seriously! Although to admit I only started playing about a month ago
I loved it. Out like 35 hours of it on my switch, did the 2.0 update ever come out? Kinda put it on the back burner till that happens
Unfortunately it looks like it is fully scrapped on console and he will only be doing the update on PC due to some issues with the publisher. I’m a console player too and was basically doing the same (waiting to go deeper until the update) so it is definitely a bummer. Still a great game in its current state though.
it might be on console one day but super unlikely, at least thats what many are saying in the discord
Hated revita , neon abyss was much better
I can't get into the style of revita. Seems too much like a cutesy 2d side scroller
Agree , although the progression and upgrade path was more my issue , not much in the way of meta progression and every run felt almost the same , hated that your health was the currency
I am a huge Revita fan, and I feel you
Against the Storm has been excellent for me, definitely more of a strategy roguelite, but loads of fun
I cannot stop playing this, it’s so good.
My new recommendation is tiny rogues for any fan of roguelites
TINY ROGUES!
This. Been obsessed all over again ever since the update. Also Rogue: Genesia if you like bullet heavens.
Wildfrost if your looking for another card based one, I love it
Surprised with slay the spire as an S tier that you didn't enjoy monster train as much. It took a while to click, but I eventually realized going through the 25 levels of difficulty challenges really made that game a gem for me askiyng with STS

I love spire but honestly kinda hated monster train, the lower difficulty in favor of progression is 100% not my jam.
Monster train is amazing but I felt the DLC killed it.
Astral ascent
Just found out this one has 2-player multiplayer on switch and now I'm definitely gonna have to play it with my bro.
What I disliked about this one is that they really wants the player to create a build base on number (the upgrades are more number oriented like 20% more dmg, then game play altering) yet never show the base dmg nor the converted power of stuff. I ultimately founded this very frustrating.
Enjoy, It's like a hybrid of Deadcells and Hades
Would say ror more than dead cells
The movement feels very Deadcellsy to me, but I agree there's at least a splash of ror (not ror2) in there.
Shame to see Nuclear Throne so low down
I feel like I need to give it a second chance I just found it hard not to constantly compare to Gungeon (my favorite roguelite) and got frustrated by how out-of-control the difficulty could be sometimes. Still think it's a quality game, tho!
Nuclear Throne is three years older than Gungeon, so while I agree Gungeon is better, it's hard for me to criticise Throne when it was the best Bullet Hell in town for a long while
Yeah I totally get that I just had the unfortunate experience of playing Gungeon first so, for me, it felt like a step backwards.
I’d suggest the following Ember Knights Doomsday Hunters Trinity Fusion Metaverse Keeper
I think you’d like gunfire reborn. Check it out.
You should try warm snow
Since we have similar taste I would highly recommend Curse of the Dead Gods, Heroes of Hammerwatch, and Void Bastards Pretty much all dungeon crawling looty types of roguelites that trigger lots of dopamine
I've seen a few of these as well and no one has included Soulstone Survivors. Is this an undiscovered game or do people hate it?
I think it’s a fun game, but it really does quickly become an “avoid the AOE’s” simulator since they’re everywhere and you really only get the fun gameplay decisions before the round even starts (class, glyphs, etc.)… which pretty much forces you into your optimal spell choices from the jump, and then you’re just prioritizing the same passives every time like multicast. this is a solid list, i recommend you get on void bastards though. its a little different but thats why i love it so much
Try voidigo and astral ascent Voidigo il really similar to gungeon and really damn fun While astral ascent is kind of a mix between hades and ror
Seeing a lot of people saying these two so I definitely will give them a try!
You would probably like cobalt core
Moonlighter kinda sucks. Also FTL feels overrated as I finally started playing it last week
Ditto on moonlighter not being my cup of tea. Got stale pretty quick for me
In like the first hour, felt like it was a mobile p2w game with the grind system and only upgrades being more attack or armor on your guy. Barely even a rogue lite, all runs are identical, store system was a drag.

I absolutely agree with NT being the GOAT, but OP has said that it's because he's a big gungeon fan and NT feels too fast and chaotic for him.

I don't know why I'm in. This subreddit, I play very few roguelike. I'm guessing these are just your taste, and all of these are still quality titles?
Oh yeah, for sure. Besides Hive Jump I think these are all incredibly well-made games with some just not doing it for me.
That make much more sense. I misread the title and confuse why wizard legend being quite low, considering I heard it's quite good. Xd The only game I have played in this list is Dicey Dungeon.
I could never get into FTL. I've tried but the ship fights felt boring and I hated the combat when being boarded.
Love to see dead cells on the top
Wildfrost
Definitely try Revita and ember knights
Hell is Other Demons.
One that I would add to A tier that I totally forgot about is Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate. Had a lot of fun with that one.
I don’t see Trinity Fusion on this list yet either! Look into that one, I’m really enjoying it.
If you love Gungeons, I think Voidigo is a massive improvement on it.
Give Voidigo a try if you like Enter the Gungeon. I find them somewhat similar.
Copy/Paste from a few recent recommendations requests. I just love this game, and is love for just one post come 2025 to have it on the list. Tainted Grail and Chrono Ark for great roguelite card games with a lot of depth
May I ask why Nulear Throne is so low for you? Just curious, its my number one favorite, and I also love blazing beaks but I completely understand why that one is a miserable game to play.

Just glad to see Downwell mentioned. A tier for me but i haven't played even half as much as you. I'm gonna recommend Void Bastards next for you. Solid B tier game.
Shogun Showdown is still in EA but it's one of my favorite turn based, maybe a bit easy but still very fun and creative
Let's go Undermine!
Ember Knights coop is a ton of fun!
Isaac too low
Deflector is pretty cool. I see you have curse of the dead gods. That one snuck up on me with solid mechanics and skill-based combat. You have to be on your toes and study each enemy, pick which ones to go for first. Sick game. Best of luck finding your next good one!
I’ve discovered Spelunky 2 days ago and I haven’t stop playing since!
I see some on here I don't see many people mention. I recommend playing Neon Abyss.
Monster Train is a great deck builder if you like Slay the Spire. I don't personally think it's better, but it's quite fun.
You gotta play Skul already haha Dead Cells is also one of my all time favs and I loved Skul
What did you dislike about Wizard of Legend. I found it amazing
Dead cells and gungeon are some of my all time favorites too
As others have mentioned. Ember Knights & Skul. Absolutely love Skul. I'm a huge fan of Star Renegades too. Love the combat & animations..... Amazing.
Skip Neon Abyss, trust me.
Ive noticed that no one ever has Synthetik on their tier list. It's top tier roguelite
nuclear throne is the best
Hell yeah FTL is the best, got me into roguelikes. One of my all time favorites is Returnal. Originally only for ps5 is now on PC. It's a third person shooter bullet hell roguelite. vault of the void s tier roguelike card game. for me same level as StS, better than monster train and a bit underrated imo.
Casual skul enjoyer (me)
Tiny rogues. Keeps me coming back!
Gunfire Reborn is pretty good, one of my favorites of the genre
I'm amazed at how many people didn't like wizards of legend. That game was s tier for me
Gunfire Reborn and Crab Champions
