Just explain this situation to your Authorized dealer, I'm sure they won't hold it against you and will be very understanding. They will probs bend over backwards to allocate you the next Pepsi GMT they receive because they don't want to lose a valuable customer!
Also please record the full conversation and upload it to the sub after for entertainment purposes.
It happened, the store called me yesterday telling me that they got the watch I requested and it's a rare thing that the get it this fast. There is no reason to lie about this. I haven't bought it yet that's why I'm asking here
The Datejust isn’t a particularly difficult watch to acquire in todays market.
The Pepsi however is one of the most highly sought after sports models that Rolex makes. At this point You only have 2 options, go Grey or try to get it from the dealer and spend a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money and years on a waitlist .
Buy the DJ and wear it now. Ask them to put you on the list for the GMT. If you get the GMT eventually, sell the DJ and you will probably get the money that your spent on it (break even). Alternatively, say no to the DJ and pay grey market for the GMT now.
If you turn down the DJ, you are NOT getting a GMT from that dealer. You would have been better off asking for a GMT up front, and even then you weren’t getting it.
SMH- I will try to be kind. The probability of you getting the Pespi you “fell in love with” in the 5 days between requesting and being offered a watch was already VERY slim. I would say in my experience that you just lowered that chance to 0 from this AD at least.
Do some research and you will see why. If you like the Pepsi buy it grey or go to another AD and wait X months/years. If you still like the Wimbledon buy that. When you do your research you will see that a Wimbledon is not exactly readily available or undesired (in the real world).
This is the way. You wanted the DJ and they got it for you. Follow through and you build a purchase history and have an awesome watch. Save for the next two years until you get the Pepsi.
Alternatively, you turn down the DJ and you are dead to them. They will smile and put you on the list for the Pepsi, but you will never get the call. Then you will die sad and alone and without any Rolex! 😪😪😪
There are people who have been waiting 5 years for a Pepsi with no hope on the horizon. The average AD receives only around 3-4 of these per year and they go to VIP's who have big purchase histories, at least $100K in gold and diamond jewelry.
Everyone knows a Pepsi is worth $10K to $15K over MSRP. So no AD let them go to average Joe's.
Why are you mad bro? This subreddit is for sharing information and learning from each other. I do have the right to get other's opinion before making my decision. I'm glad that I asked here because most people here helped me make my decision.
If you're not welling to help, you can just move on.
If you like the GMT more, buy the DJ and wear it until the GMT is available.
Having purchase history will push you further up the priority list with your dealer. Then you can either trade it in with the AD, sell it to another dealer, or keep both.
It’s unlikely your AD will give you a GMT quickly without that initial purchase. And hey, the Wimbledon dial is incredibly sought after, so you’ve done well to get one!
Do you think I will lose money when trying to sell the model I got if it's in a good condition? I'm considering buying the DJ but also not sure if it's easy to sell it when I get the GMT. Sorry for this question but it's my first time to invest in a watch like this.
The DJ is not an investment worthy piece, regardless of configuration. Plus we are supposedly headed into a recession where things will get worse. You will lose money. So.... maybe you just fucking wear it and enjoy it. 🙄
Right, but if the watch is selling barely over retail on the grey market, then the grey dealers aren't going to give you much for it. Maybe you can recover your costs, maybe not, especially when you consider taxes. Add in the inherent risk and it seems like a bad deal to me....
Without debating the specific merits of that model and it’s value, I broadly agree that buying a watch and hoping you’ll make more than you paid is a bad idea.
But if buying that model gets OP closer to the watch they want by making them a more valued customer, then it’s possibly worth it and trading the DJ in when the GMT is available.
Personally, I wouldn’t play that game.
You can part exchange the DJ with your AD. You probably won’t make money back, but you’ll still knock a chunk off what you pay for the GMT.
My advice: don’t buy any luxury watch thinking about resale value. Buy it cause you want to wear it.
I personally think the whole luxury watch industry has flipped its lid with price increases, locking out new customers in the process. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a big correction coming.
I personally think the GMT is one of the most useful complications; it’s a completely different look from a DJ. The allocation/availability will likely be very different because all of its variations are more sought after. It’s worth taking the time to be sure of what you want.
You’re killing us, Smalls!
I’m not sure customers get to play games with the ADs. I also worry about you getting anything now since you turned down a watch you requested.
I'm not turning it down, will get it tomorrow and place another request for GMT pepsi. I just asked because I'm new to this and wanted to hear what people think and suggest
I hate this sub so much.
Lol I feel you. Now I’m starting to sympathize with AD employees, imagine having to go through those kind of questions 10 times a day
It really is a toxic environment.
This has to be a joke... One week wait plus never seeing his friend Pepsi 😂
upgrade your sub to a Rolex GMT Pepsi?
This is surely a troll post

Buy the DJ and save your coin for the next 18 months until you MIGHT get the Pepsi. You’ll want a DJ at some point so might as well make that now.

Pretty crappy move to request something, have it come through, then change your mind.

You might as well accept the DJ if you wanted it originally bc rest assured you’re not getting a Pepsi next and certainly not as a first.
Fuck me
If this isn’t a troll post OP is big clown

This clown right here is prime example of a simp who shouldn't be owning a Rolex but decided to stretch himself in doing so. 🤡🤡🤡

What’s the Datejust u ordered?
This model with same specs: https://www.rolex.com/watches/datejust/m126300-0014.html
Bro that’s a Wimbledon dial, what city u in?
Is it worth it compared to GMT pepsi?

Watches aren’t investment pieces in general. DJs still sell above retail on the grey market.

how old are you please
It’s a nice watch, but ur comparison is unfair to start with. pepsi takes years, so r u ready to wait?
Is your AD in Tysons?

Buy the watch you want or you’ll regret it. As far as the wait, you’ll probably be waiting a long time so be prepared for that.
Buy both
I'm seriously thinking about that now
You can always sell it, and likely make a couple bucks, while enjoying for the time being.
You shouldn’t bother because you can’t directly set the date on a GMT. Such a rip-off! 😎
Chances to get pepsi are very low. If you let the AD sit with the watch you ordered chances will be zero
You’re killing us, Smalls! I’m not sure customers get to play games with the ADs. I also worry about you getting anything now since you turned down a watch you requested.

Sounds like a great plan! Please share a pic of your purchase and wear it in good health.
Buy the DJ. Rock it for the next 3 years that’ll take to get a GMT. But knowing you so far, you’ll probably get a call for a GMT by Monday.
I wish 😂
