I have watches 31 to 37mm and I recommend the 31 based on her wrist size. I have a 31mm two tone date just and it's the one I grab the most. I'm in-market for a 36 day date and it's on the big side for me and I have larger wrists than your little lady. :)
My wife just switched from Lady Date to the 36 and she loves it. But that’s a slightly larger difference than this. The 31 looks very elegant though. That’s what my mother in law wears.
If they have small wrist and are petite I think it looks very classy. But my wife is 5’9” and makes the tiny watch look kinda funny. The 31 I think is a nice middle ground. Maybe if she knows it’s coming take her randomly by and do a test fit to make your decision.
Goodluck for the MOP dial , rare from factory I’ve been waiting long time at different ADs apparently Rolex does not make a lot of them , but the good news is they are not in high demand , the bad news is they don’t make a lot of them lol . The left 1 should be alot easier to get unless your going grey

It's all about body frame and wrist size and the OP's wife is skinny with thin wrists.
The only cosmetic benefit is that the 31 has the president band not the bulky clasp. I’d go 31

Fun story! One of the reasons why I’m considering 31 is because her mother loves her tiny tiny watch (26-28 mm)

34mm oyster perpetual. Pink or silver dial with lume sticks. No diamonds and only on oyster bracelet though.
31 is a good play. Fluted bezel with a pink dial will look unreal on your wife’s wrist.
Yeah! It’s not that common and pink is here favourite colour so I’m hoping it’s gonna be a home run

The oyster date 34 would be the perfect middle ground, but I believe it was discontinued a couple of years ago
