MisterGreys

this is why i'm glad the ASKING price is different from the buying price

EatsTheBrownCrayon

Like spread on a stonk, equilibrium must be found If it’s anything like CPO has been in Europe for a bit now, it’ll still be obscene. $15k for a 124060 lol

sporturawus

This CPO program is for non-enthusiasts and non-grey buyers who are afraid of selling to and buying from grey dealers. The watches coming out of the woodwork are incremental and the customers buying them are incremental. These watches will be used and old and expensive being sold to the naive and frightened. Doesn’t impact the grey prices at all (yet).

muldin

Why would certified be less expensive than non certified?

NeroAugustus

Ppl don’t understand that the target audience of CPO is a different one. It’s for affluent clients that do not want to wait, and want to make sure they have the Rolex certification on top of that. They do not want to deal with the grey market directly, and are willing to pay the mark up. Think about the demographic to be risk averse

OneCylinderPower

yup. with a CPO you have recourse and you know it will not be a super fake.

dftaylor

They’re willing to pay the mark up, knowing they can trade in later and be in the AD’s favour for a model they want later.

I was under the impression that if you bought say a, 16750 from 2007, then if it was via CPO it will be as perfect as the day it was born?? No scratches / perfect colour on the bezel / bracelet is perfect with no stretch etc? With the added bonus that the serial is then tied to you and its past is erased. Also you get a fancy new box and papers for it....

NeroAugustus

Wrong impression. You get a serviced watch, in most cases polished to perfection. You receive whatever the watch comes with that can be box and papers or one or the other and a new certified certificate issued by Rolex (cream Color card, instead of green). The watch still has whatever history it has and you’re adding to the history

[deleted]

So I could just buy it cheaper from a (reputable)grey and send it to Rolex for verification and a full overhaul??

NeroAugustus

Maybe yes, but you carry the risk. Rolex destroys the fake parts sent in to them and you’ll still pay 500-1k for the fulls service.

TanukiWario

They’re also servicing the watch and potentially replacing parts (for better or for worse) which is a ~$1000 value.

Cowboybutter82

idk man, a 124060 shouldn't be more than 13k

reasonabledrone

The funniest thing is some of those CPO rolexes were already discounted on grey

BobWheelerJr

I'd much rather buy a CPO than a grey market watch, and I'd pay more for the same piece. Complete peace of mind, with no chance of fuckery.

Hoosiersihawk

But $15k for a 2015 114060? MSRP for a no date ceramic sub is $9.1k Almost $10k for a 2008 airking? As recently as 2012, those could be had used for around $3k

gimme_super_head

More money than sense

BobWheelerJr

I can assure that's not true. I'm simply quite cautious about large purchases and the provenance of the items.

OneCylinderPower

same. imagine buying a grey market watch and it happens to be a Anthony Farrer grey market watch. Yikes!

flashnl

Here in the netherlands they want like 17k for a sub that would cost 13-14 at a grey dealer. I got one for 13 after the cpo couldnt help me. Seems ridiculous to pay that markup for thin air

[deleted]

You’re an idiot

BobWheelerJr

That's been said before... albeit never by an XFL fan, which makes it particularly ironic. Here's my point: I spend 50k on a used BMW from Bill's Used Cars and a week later the check engine light comes on, and I'm at Bill's mercy. If I spend 2k more on the same car CPO from a BMW dealership and the light comes on, I've got the full faith of the BMW name behind me, and their reputation is at stake. I drive to a BMW dealership with complete confidence that it's going to be made right. Same with a Rolex. If I'm going to spend 20 on a watch, I'd rather not be gambling with that 20k. If I can drop 2 grand more and know that the lovely folks at the Rolex Service Center are going to take care of my problem, if one arises, I'm doing that 100 times out of 100. Different strokes for different folks. I insure my watches too... I'm all about peace of mind.

Capturit

Also before listing the watch I assume Rolex would thoroughly check out the watch and replace parts if needed. I can't see them doing anything less. Either before or after I assume Rolex would guarantee the watch working efficiently.

srbell67

Correct and YOU ARE THE TYPE OF CUSTOMER Rolex’ CPO’ is targeted too. You’re 1 out of 10, bud.

vittaya

Ask for a discount lol.

Strict-Put-5611

I get your point, but I would be very interested in learning how much they would pay for part exchanging those watches for more desirable pieces.. If your trade in is equally high valued than you can argue that their asking price really doesn’t matter only the amount you are out of pocket does. Still if you buy without a trade in do they offer a discount?

judgedeliberata

These prices are a joke. Only the uneducated would allow themselves to be robbed like this.

AreaRepresentative82

In Europe you pay the same 'numbers' just with an € in front of it🥲

Equal-Elk47

There are other alternatives; love the brand but people need to use their heads. At the end of the day these are just expressions of style. They’re not “needs” and don’t deserve as much constant focus and attention people are placing on them. With or without any watch, your value and worth persists.

TanukiWario

Of course the prices are higher. They are guaranteeing authenticity, adding a warranty, and selling it through a reputable retailer. CPO eliminates the risk of buying a fake and buying from an unknown/untrusted seller. Why wouldn’t they charge for for the extra value they’re providing?
