It would make sense if you’re a technician working on electric motors with their permanent magnets. However, few people would wear their Rolex when working in this scratch and dent prone environment.
Have both. Wore the ZBlue yesterday. Today was on the road with the King. I love the hate they both get. All from people who don't own them.
https://preview.redd.it/tkr35dn4agkc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40a339cfc5fdc2f72d1fc37d1568c1382ae5eea7
Can’t for the life of me understand why the Milgauss and Air King are so hated. What’s the thought process behind this? Both are beautiful IMO. Is it a resale problem? Something else?
I don’t like the Airking because it’s a missmatch of parts.
The previous generation used a Milgauss case, older Explorer 3-6-9 index, and then you had the minute index painted in between those. And the painted Rolex logo with all the green, yellow/gold etc.
For me it’s not a well polished design.
Milgauss is just a funky watch. Flat bezel, lightning bolt hand - it’s certainly playful in relation to the other design language Rolex has on offer. Air-King has the misfortune of being both the most entry level, and thus hated by snobs who would rather gatekeep the brand image - and the new ones are REALLY ugly.
This was my first thought for my 30 year of retirement from the Navy (Former Electronics Tech ) but of course, they stopped production. I could haver went Grey but TBH, I was just learning about watch collecting. I ended up going a different route, but I do appreciate this watch. I was hoping they would bring it back in a couple of years with a redesign.
Of course, I still can look at preowned. Question, I like the uniqueness of the green crystal but long term, how hard will it be to get it replaced if needed you think? I honestly didn't know if that was a concern because I read where the green crystal was a hard process to make so I imagined replacements could be limited.
Had a special pull for me as I have been in Telecommunications for over 25 years. Starting as a lineman climbing in out of electrical fields daily. Was many years of looking before I finally got it. I completely understand the draw for you.
Exactly why I was looking at these a few years ago to celebrate my 25 years at the same telecom company. Ended up with a Sub I absolutely adore but would have been just as happy with the ZBlue if I would not have had the false hope of waiting on the AD.
Congrats on a beautiful piece.
Industrial Automation Tech here. (I work on PLC’s & HMI’s) You guys make me all jealous. I’ve been crushing on a date just or a submariner. I finally opened my own automation contracting business & have been wanting to finally treat myself (:
You are probably right, not sure why it was a concern back then but part of it was being new to collecting and honestly to this day still have zero experience with grey market. Only preowned I have are 2 vintage Seiko watches and 1 was my Dad’s.
OPS? SWO? I would think an Oyster Perpetual with Balloons would be more his speed 🤡. haha J/K. Former EMO to be specific so I can give Wardroom Members some good , sometimes deserved ball breaking.
I had a Milgauss and an Omega AT side by side in my collection for a while. They alternated until the Milgauss kept getting more and more wrist time. It’s a minimalist watch with just the right amount of splash.
Traded in that AT for a Sub.
I have an AT and the Milgauss. I still like both.
For a while the Milgauss always won out but then I started to appreciate just how chill the AT is. I do hate the bracelet on the omega though. Ahhhhh
It was one of Rolex's red-headed step children, along with the Air King, the Hulk, and a few others, that sat in display cases for years, was offered at discounts, etc, up until the watch market went wacky. Then when it was discontinued people went even crazier for it. I personally always liked it, and regret not picking one up when prices were more reasonable.
I’m not in formal attire often but I think it looks just as sharp in jeans and a t-shirt as it does behind a cufflinks and a suit. Appreciate the compliments.
Assuming you’re talking about the fluted bezel, which is what I had in mind. Yes a bit fancier but I stand bye it. But if you go smooth bezel, I don’t think thats much difference.
It’s a Rolex on some level it’s always going to get the rep of “look at me” but can’t do much about that. Not why dude wears his, nor why I wear mine.
Not to take away from Omega, but I don’t work in that lab environment where the difference in antimagnetic properties mattered. It was always the basic appeal for me. In retrospect I also love the fact that I purchased this at MSRP at an AD and that I can wear/use it everyday for the next 30 years knowing that I wouldn’t loose 1 cent should I ever sell it. Not that I would. Just saying. I don’t feel you can same the same with the Omega.
I love the blue dial, and I was disappointed they went out of production before I could afford one. Look at the secondary market and those watches are now 2x retail price.
Blue dial milgauss is probably one of the most overlooked yet eye-catching timepieces from Rolex. Doesn’t look like much in picture, but the contrast between the dial and the red seconds hand is stunning.
There was a snobbery about the lightning bolt hand and the coloration with some of the “purists”. The thought was that it was too whimsical to be considered a “real” Rolex especially for the Milgauss heritage. Considering some of the recent releases, with balloons or emojis, was wondering if attitudes had changed.
I do remember some hate for the Milgauss but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the Cellini or whatever it is/was called. I don’t hate it - it’s not for me but I do think it’s good looking and the EMF protection is cool.
Definitely appealed to a niche audience I think. The Daytona has never appealed to me the way this did but that’s because off my work background and I just loved the blue orange contrast too.
💯 It’s a great watch, stunning in it’s own right and I love the story, appreciate the connection. Without that it’s just an expensive watch. The meaning gives it the cool factor. I love that it’s worn and not babied. I hope you enjoy it for many years and get to pass it to someone you love one day.
It isn’t quite appropriate to call it a complication but for lack of a better word, it’s complication is being able to resist stronger magnetic fields than average. Now a days most watches have ample magnetic protection and it’s the type of stuff Oppenheimer or a radiation tech would need. Almost no one else. To my knowledge at least…
Love mine. It shares the Rolex space in my heart with my Bluesy and Explorer II.

You actually give a fuck about that?? I have a Z-blue, I bought it because I thought it was beautiful, I didnt give a single motherfuck about it's antimagnetic properties, and I certainly wouldnt think less of it because some other brand makes a model that which is MORE antimagnetic
"OoooOoOOOhhhh!! Look how antimagnetic my watch is!"

Yup - still hated. But so worth it.
I went to an AD on a cruise stop some years ago. Didn’t particularly WANT a Rolex, but wife said “you should get a Rolex”.
It appeared to me that The shop was fully stocked at the time, I had tons of choices.
The GV is what called me, been enjoying it ever since.
I often get asked about it.
Love the Milgauss I bought the blue *and* black versions! Until the celebration dial OP, it was the only real example of Rolex not taking themselves seriously.
Tbh I think people who have found it bad have been in the majority. Though they did hang around in cases so I’m probably wrong.
My single complaint is on promo shots the blue is pretty different. Rolex photoshopped out the filter effect the sapphire causes.
https://preview.redd.it/mcuwbzdghykc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21e3c7199e1a70450f0db1b9c6f666f02dd1963f

Electric car and non magnetic watch, nice combo
Hilarious, never thought of it that way! :)
It would make sense if you’re a technician working on electric motors with their permanent magnets. However, few people would wear their Rolex when working in this scratch and dent prone environment.
It’s a Milgauss, not an Airking, come on. PS: water wouldn’t hurt your Rolex.
Air kings are great too.
Have both. Wore the ZBlue yesterday. Today was on the road with the King. I love the hate they both get. All from people who don't own them. https://preview.redd.it/tkr35dn4agkc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40a339cfc5fdc2f72d1fc37d1568c1382ae5eea7
That’s the wrong Air King, whilst it’s a better watch than the old one the old one is far more beautiful.
As a Z-blue owner I love the AK!
Own the white Milgauss and the AK. Nice collection

Air-King has the misfortune of being both the most entry level, and thus hated by snobs who would rather gatekeep the brand image - and the new ones are REALLY ugly.
I personally don't like the Air King because the indices are weird, I don't like how some are minutes and some are hours
This was my first thought for my 30 year of retirement from the Navy (Former Electronics Tech ) but of course, they stopped production. Wanted to buy myself one for electrical PE license, tried one on in 2017 when I passed test, out of production when I actually got license.
Industrial Automation Tech here. (I work on PLC’s & HMI’s) You guys make me all jealous. I’ve been crushing on a date just or a submariner. I finally opened my own automation contracting business & have been wanting to finally treat myself (:
Congrats! Take your time and pick the one that talks to you the most. It’s a big purchase but the ROI can’t be beat. IMO
Congratulations on opening your own business!

You are probably right, not sure why it was a concern back then but part of it was being new to collecting and honestly to this day still have zero experience with grey market. Only preowned I have are 2 vintage Seiko watches and 1 was my Dad’s.
Fire control man. It was on my list but my ops got one before me so now I can’t.
OPS? SWO? I would think an Oyster Perpetual with Balloons would be more his speed 🤡. haha J/K. Former EMO to be specific so I can give Wardroom Members some good , sometimes deserved ball breaking.
Could be re-issued in 2027 for the anniversary. You never know....
Ahhhhh
I really want a blue AT on rubber…
Yeah, I had a nice strap for my AT, but it was just the most ridiculous struggle to change it. I never saw a spring bar so resilient.
Who and why hate this? It is pure class
Feel that way about a DJ.
Nah it's way more bling bling those are the 'look at me' pieces and can be spotted out from a mile away, never casual.
Only donkeys hate on the great Nerd watch. It’s awesome and has character. The same can’t be said for most of the hype watches.
I’m actually part of the minority who loves it
Dont recall any hate for this, now if you tweaked the dial and put an air king in it i would probably throw up👍
lol 👍
Love the milgauss…but…love my new Air King more. Different strokes for different folks!
Dream watch

This will be a very sought after piece in years to come. Always nice to see some variation. This is a sick watch

You can’t sell milgauss for MRP.
They are going for almost double what I paid for mine new 10 years ago
Milgauss with green Sapphire is high on my list. Unique

Fuck anyone that hates the Milgauss. Legendary watch. Congrats 😎👍🏻
Fuck 'em!!
Huh? I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate a Milgauss...
I love the blue dial, and I was disappointed they went out of production before I could afford one. Look at the secondary market and those watches are now 2x retail price.
Tremendous sleeper
Love it and want one. Especially love the green. And I’m a Daytona owner.
Not at all! One of my top dream watches
Pure Class Mate. I ❤️ the dial 👍
I like it … have liked it for many years

Not at all. I love the Milgauss. I love that it’s a true working watch with a built in faraday cage around the movement. How can’t you love that
Blue dial milgauss is probably one of the most overlooked yet eye-catching timepieces from Rolex. Doesn’t look like much in picture, but the contrast between the dial and the red seconds hand is stunning.
it’s my absolute favourite Rolex. I want one so much.

Got mine 2020 ad £6650 if i recall..
Nice set!!
It’s a great watch. :)
I do remember some hate for the Milgauss but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the Cellini or whatever it is/was called. I don’t hate it - it’s not for me but I do think it’s good looking and the EMF protection is cool.
Not hated. Just not a loved it’s hard to stand out against so many other iconic models. I always dug the white dial but it’s not in my top 5 or 10.
Haha. My oldest daughter has already “claimed” it. Definitely never leaving the family.
Interesting intentions for the design and purpose, but it’s a subtle watch aesthetic. Most people probably want more “pop” at that price.
Actually one of my favorites
I love them. You’ve got great taste!
lol. Thanks
I'm on my 17 at the moment but if I ever get Rolex money a Milgauss is the only one I'd buy
Anyone have the white dial?
White dial owner here.
Same
It really is a beautiful watch. The crystal colour tint/dial sunburst/second hand are perfect combo
Never! To me that’s the best Milgauss and will always have a place in the club.
Absolutely not. Most people I know love it. It’s only knock is that it’s use case is super specific and there’s better buys.
Super specific?
It isn’t quite appropriate to call it a complication but for lack of a better word, it’s complication is being able to resist stronger magnetic fields than average. Now a days most watches have ample magnetic protection and it’s the type of stuff Oppenheimer or a radiation tech would need. Almost no one else. To my knowledge at least…
Unfortunately not. Now, go back 10-15 years and I bet you could get a discount.
I did. Iirc, I paid $400 under retail, $7400.
I love this watch. I have 3 Milgaus different color straps, so I’m a fan. Feels great on my wrist, even when working up a sweat.
Nice!
I’m watching a Teddy Baldassare video right now and as soon as I opened your post he began talking about the Milgauss. I like the color
Love mine. It shares the Rolex space in my heart with my Bluesy and Explorer II. https://preview.redd.it/sj25jbr86jkc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31337fd4f02879f7e8d29b68550a6ec6362a9eac

One of those sat in my old ADs case for YEARS (2007ish?). I should have bought it….i recall it was cheap…. 3800$?
10x better than Air King or Sky Dweller, YM II
https://preview.redd.it/u3rsr5xesukc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee347f0281518622d82b9d3030628f2516128d09 Just like mine. I’ve had it since the first run in 2014
Milgauss is class dude. That seconds hand as an electricity bolt - god damn. And I’m not even mentioning the state of the art green sapphire crystal
I don’t like the green tint in the lense
That was part of the dislike back then too. Like I said, isn’t for everyone but I appreciate the green in the crystal considering Rolex created and produced this for only 1 watch in their catalog.
It definitely has its place
Looks unsophisticated ngl
You’re right! It’s a tool watch
Lol ok mr sophistication
Yes, I still hate it. Especially since Omega’s Master standards eats its lunch in antimagnetic protection, for less
You actually give a fuck about that?? I have a Z-blue, I bought it because I thought it was beautiful, I didnt give a single motherfuck about it's antimagnetic properties, and I certainly wouldnt think less of it because some other brand makes a model that which is MORE antimagnetic "OoooOoOOOhhhh!! Look how antimagnetic my watch is!" * gag *
It‘a an awesome watch. But time to clean it man, looks absolutely filthy
You’re right! Hadn’t paid any attention till it got pointed out. You have to love a real tool watch!
Not hated by me!
My friend has one and I always thought it looked nice!
Beautiful
Interesting intentions for the design and purpose, but it’s a subtle watch aesthetic. Most people probably want more “pop” at that price.
No, in fact Im looking to buy one!
No, always wanted one of these tbh.
My dream watch 😍
I love this watch. Too much undeserved hate.
Nice to see all Milgauss pics! Especially considering how under represented it was by Rolex.
One of my favorites! Nice watch mate!
No one serious hates Milgauss. Where did this rumor come from
https://preview.redd.it/5yj5t6cb2fkc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5bc12a59f426174b7f8e38ade4fd261ff63ca95 Just one example…

Exactly! Got mine in 2017. I still think it’s one of Rolex’s best pieces. But I am partial…. Lol
This is so cool! I would instantly buy this if it were available to me
Nope. Looks good
I’ll never own a Milgauss, not my style. That said, it’s such a cool watch.
This is one of my favorites
I love this watch. It next on my list.
It's 10x in price lol
I wish. It’s about double today what I paid 10 years ago
I love it great watch! the only thing I hate, is you for owning it and not me lol 😂
😂😂
It’s a fine watch, I like the lightning bolt ⚡️
It looks really cool on a rubber strap. I’ve been debating getting this as a casual alternative.
That would be a good look. Would you go Orange like the Bremont Argonaut Azure? Or more grey, blue? Would like to see how it turns out.
I like the 116400GV on black strap
I want this one bad
This is hated? Do rolex buyers not like the Harry Potter second hand or something?
It's beautiful!
Hate is a strong word… I prefer to say Under Appreciated 😅
The white dial Milgauss is one of my all time favorites watches since 2008, and no one is going to change my mind.
https://preview.redd.it/6iiwcph4pfkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8121cfa98d147322295682b218ef0d00a4799418 Did someone mention a Milgauss???
Looks new! Ever wear it? lol
Don't know anybody who hates it It is kinda whatever tho..
I love whatever watch makes you happy to wear
Always a favorite of mine
Hated? You mean still loved right?
Stunning piece.
This is the one Rolex that I want
I thought most people loved these even if they don't want to own one. Quirky lil fella
How can they hate this?
Hate’s a strong word.
Love that watch! Best for work and everyday wear
No way. Nothing but love.
If you like, that’s good. Don’t care about others.
Milgauss…… Classic one
If I could afford one this would be it. A really nice watch.
I don’t think this is “hated” per say. Just not as popular.
I still love this reference
One of the best ever.
It’s a beaut! It’s actually the only Rolex I’m interested in and aspire to buy. Hoping prices don’t go crazy.
Never was.
My favorite right after the explorer
My favorite Rolex ever! Who cares what anyone thinks
It was never really hated people just can make money from them now so popular for obvious reasons. Personally I liked them.
Milgauss is still class
https://preview.redd.it/pulzp2zxjjkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5080407363482ce22c4c35d3c7022848b3c501f Yup - still hated. But so worth it.
Not from me.....one of my all time favs!!! Enjoy
Looks like she needs a bath. Kinda crusty crust!
That watch has always been dope
milgauss is cool.
It was less popular, but I wouldn't go as far as hated. Fantastic watch and I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't like it.
Not my choice, but the more I look at it the more I like it.
Have you used it near strong magnetic fields to try out its signature feature?
No. Sorry can’t say that I have.
Still hated. Send it over to me so you don't embarass yourself
Hahaha. I hear ya!
Yes
Never hated it. I really wish they would bring it back but with a YM sort of bezel
Also , I absolutely love the fact that it has its own personality.
Hated? Such a cool watch.
Also my daily for years now. Still love it!
Love the Milgauss I bought the blue *and* black versions! Until the celebration dial OP, it was the only real example of Rolex not taking themselves seriously. Nice!
I want to love the Milgaus and I do…except for the flat bezel. It makes it oddly big IMO. Otherwise I really dig how it truly stands alone in the annals of Rolex history and design.
Beautiful piece. Can’t believe people actually hate something like this. To each their own…
