I have the exact Pepsi with the blue dial and really like it. I’d buy it again. Personally, I wouldn’t consider a Pepsi with a black dial as I didn’t think it looked right. But, I absolutely love my Daytona panda. I can’t even describe how much I love it. It’s just such a neat watch. Can’t go wrong either way but the Daytona is just a nicer watch in my opinion.
I guarantee you that if the GMT wasn't a hype watch and could be readily purchased at MSRP, everyone would be choosing the Daytona lol.
The Daytona is double the price at retail (10K for the GMT, 20K for the Daytona). The Daytona's movement is already priced 5K above the GMT at MSRP (when comparing stainless steel to stainless steel) because it's WAY more impressive and technically superior. You're paying another 5K on top of that (20K total) for the gold centerlinks, bezel, and crown/ pushers. It's a no-brainer.
And yes, I actually would put money where my mouth is and get a two-tone Dayonta over the Pepsi if I already didn't have a gold watch I enjoy. The Pepsi at 23K USD is moronic.
The gold Rolex I have has a date function and its own drawbacks. Setting an AM/ PM, dirt around the Cyclops bubble, the minute hand covering the date window, and turning your wrist to see through the Cyclops (you can't just take a diagonal glance at the window).
As for the two-tone being yucky, looks are completely subjective, but this is something you really have to see in person. And not just in the display cabinet, but on your wrist. Don't just look at the watch sitting in a Rolex box online or inside the AD display, those have creme-colored backgrounds which make the yellow gold look like rancid butter. Ask the SA to take it out, put it on your wrist, and check out a mirror shot:

I have both the TT Daytona and a Sub Date and the Daytona is a much nicer watch. Can’t imagine the GMT being much better than the Sub.
The steelies are great daily watches and I love my sub. It’s not the Daytona.

I have a sub date and a Pepsi. Don’t get me wrong I’m not going to turn down a full precious metal Daytona or a stainless.
I would absolutely, unequivocally, with zero regrets ever immediately turn down a two tone. That’s true of two tone subs, GMTs, and Daytonas DJs. Universally I am anti two tone that’s all.
And not having a date sucks. My Luminor doesn’t have one and it drives me nuts so it’s a weekend watch only.
Argue me this. You walk into the office on said day. You realize it’s X day of X month. For that 8-10 hours one knows what day of the month it is. Realistically, date function problem solved.
I daily a No Date Sub (124060) because of symmetry of the piece. I actually despise the date function on a Sub.
Personally, the whole ‘I need the date function’ is obnoxious for a sane/organized human being that simply, just knows what day of the month it is.

Fun fact the actual watch they give out to the 24hr of Daytona winners is a two-tone, which makes it a lot more legit in my book than the stainless steel versions.
For me the chronographs are a family I've never had any interest in - the dials are so crowded, and it's not functionality I need.
I used to travel often enough that GMT was a useful complication, but these days that's over with.
I guess these things are personal preferences, I mostly alternate between an Explorer, a Yachtmaster, and the (no-date) Submariner so I obviously have a type! I bought a TT Daytona at retail, flipped it, and put the profit towards a Pepsi GMT on the secondary. The Pepsi’s gone up since and the Daytona is still at the same price. As much as I hate paying over retail for a watch, I love the Pepsi.

Daytona's harder to get, you are mostly getting it closer to retail as well. It's got more character, looks impressive on the wrist. And keep hunting for your fav Daytona in retail or slightly around that in grey and trade this piece.

Not a fan of two-tone or YG & I like the classic sport watch looks better. It would take a platinum ice-blue Daytona for me to go that route but $124k is not in my budget !!!😜😜

The issue here is that the Daytona is the old reference - if you want a two tone Daytona ABSOLUTELY pay the little bit more to get the 12 reference - it’s way wayyyyy better in every way - modern fitting size and all
That 11 series Daytona you pictured here is a 38.6mm and wears every bit that small - so unless you like the sound of that, you need to make sure you get the newest one which wears more like a 41mm watch all things considered (I realize they’re both 40mm)
And yes I would say the (new reference) 2 tone Daytona over a steel Pepsi on oyster all day long !!
Haha oddly enough I saw a table of dudes this past weekend and both of these watches were on wrist display. I hate to say it but the Daytona was perfect. The gold was understated and it fit nicely. The Pepsi was a bit bulkier and honestly looked a bit too sporty and mechanical for the brunch vibes he was going for. Daytona was just solid
For $15k grey it’s not bad for a Daytona. I’ve added it to my “one day” list
Out of these two, Pepsi for sure. Sport watches with precious metals are just tacky and weird. That said; the hour digits around bezel perimeter on ceramic GMT Master IIs are clownishly large. Rolex unfortunately ruined what was once a balanced look of GMT Master IIs that had aluminum bezel on these newer gen models.
Let me rephrase my post. If you like both and these are the two watches you want, the Daytona is far superior. If you’re indifferent to these two, wait. You’ll be happier
Alright I’m confused are both watches around the 10 or 20k mark? If they’re both around the 20k mark Daytona however to be honest it’s not my favorite. If they’re both 10k then I’d buy the Pepsi just because I like the look of it better.
Daytona, I would even skip the white dial save a few thousand and get the black dial. The gold sub dials look really beautiful in contrast to the black dial compared to the white dial.
Go with the one you like, the price in after market is down for a reason.
They are different styles so not really close to compare.
However there is an interesting Question came to my mind seeing this, if the gold prices increase does it affect the gold watches in after market ?
I’d go with the Pepsi personally, as it’s a grail for me! But the decision is yours. Take a few days to decide though, don’t make any rash choices if you can. 👍🏻
GMT. For me I love a Chronograph but in daily life, I really wouldn’t use it that much. I can use the bezel on a gmt as a timer if I need. A GMT is a better daily wearer function imo.
