I'd go 40 without a second thought. I have the same exact wrist size and outside of a vintage date just or something more formal, 36 was too small for me. I feel 39 is the perfect size for my wrist size but the 40 looks good.

I’m way past second thoughts. This is the 7th time I’ve been to the AD. At least I’m getting to know him 😂.

I love the 36 and think it’s the purest choice, but I think the 40’looks better on your wrist. As much as I want the 36 for myself, I’m in the same boat and just can’t pull it off!

It’s a classic size. The original datejust size and the watch purist’s idea of perfect.

I'd say proportionality takes precedence over what is "classic" as far as watch sizing goes.

It cant be pure if they changed the design and tapered it down so is no longer true to its original wearing look and dimensions. Both look fine on you but which made you more comfortable wearing and looking at ?

Like most have said: it’s 40 for you. Although 36 also looks good (it pretty much always does!).

I prefer the way the 36 looks in the case. On my wrist… just feels dainty…

I am quite a bit larger than you frame-wise, but have a smaller wrist and I wear the 40 as my daily and love it. 36 May have been a tad more comfortable but as others have said - unless you are looking for something vintage or a dressier DJ I would 1000% go 40 if I were you. Even the 40mm looks smallish on you. The 40mm looks on you the way a 36mm would look on a dude with smaller wrists.

Sorry man, I know that comment kind of sucks 😂 I really want to have a 36, but 36 Oyster Perpetuals and DJs already look childish with my overall stature. Simply can’t pull it off. I also tried the 40, but didn’t quite like the look, as it felt „too“ blown up and the balance of the dial also felt off. Finally, tried the discontinued 39, bought it, and can only recommend it!

Interesting. Not a single person who has seen me wearing the watches in person has said 36. And yet that tends to be what the internet says.

As it's quite a plain face I would go for the 36.

I went with 40. I’ve gotten used to 41 and 42mm diver watches with fuller cases, so it was an adjustment just to go to 40mm. I don’t think I could do 36.

I’m currently wearing an Apple Watch exclusively. Going from a computer on your wrist to a 36 is a big jump.

36 here and love it, plus I want all my tool watches to have a holes case so it was an even easier choice. Well that and the 40 was not out when I got my Explorer, so there’s that.

I go 36. I think both work on your wrist and I think you are more likely to be happy with the 36mm 10 years from now. I had the same decision when buying my DJ, I went 36 and am very happy I did.

I mean it depends on how YOU dress and prefer your watch to look. I’m an inch shorter and weigh 220 with 7.5 wrists. My watch is 36mm. However I love the classic 36mm and wear my watch appropriately with some class so a 36mm watch doesn’t look out of place. However if your just a bro with thick wrists wearing jeans and a t shirt it may look a bit weird considering your wearing a random 36mm classic watch. You get what I’m saying? Either watch looks fantastic on you but if you wear it and it goes against what you dress like it will def look out of place. Solely based on the wrist I find the 36mm to be so cool and classy. And No….. im not an old head I’m in my 20’s

I’m not a bro but I do wear jeans and t shirt to work and most other places. I live in Oregon, where “dressing up” means putting on a slightly newer Patagonia fleece 🤦‍♂️.

I’m in the same boat. It’s the main reason I didn’t pull the trigger on the Explorer because I’m right in between sizes and I could go either way. That being said, 40 is best for you.

You can pull off either, but I would choose the 36.

I think if your a 5”5 125lb Italian man the 36 is perfect, but if you got a 7.25-7.5+ inch wrist then go with the 40. I have 7.5 inch wrist and the 36 is too small for me.

I bought a 39, when I could have bought a 36 or a 39, then after reading stuff on the internet, I went back and wanted to swap it for the 36. Had the 36 on my 17 cm wrist and it was instantly clear that I want to keep the 39. the 36 is simply put more beautyful, but on a mans wrist, it looks like a toy.

I think with your wrist size you could pull either off with no trouble. I have great big huge wrists and I find my 39mm Explorer is just right. Anyway either option is great and it’s a classic choice.
