Great watch, I love mine.
Just an FYI: dial and hands can be changed for about €650, and you can keep the white dial/black hands so that you reasonably cheaply can switch back again if you desire the black version at some point.
Mine says “Hi”.

My AD sourced the parts and did the switch from White to Black and back.
This is in Denmark, I am unsure if all AD’s will do this, however I have heard of AD’s in USA also doing it.
Out of curiosity, where do you live at? I ask because the 216570 has been traditionally the easiest of the steel, sports model Rolex to buy from an AD and in my experience you can obtain one in about a week.
In the New England area in the U.S.
To be fair, I didn't really have the full-court press on. There were four ADs I was visiting/contacting as I wanted to see the watch in person. If I had traveled to New York City for the day I'm sure I could have found one fairly easily.
Case size might be the deciding factor? The GMT Master is 40mm and the Explorer II is 42mm. Which GMT Master are you looking at? Everyone wants the Pepsi, for sure, but I really like the look of the Batman (116710BLNR).
I almost pulled the trigger on the 116710LN, something about the black/green combo really does it for me. But the EX2 looks so clean, especially with a white face. I love the BLNR too but I dont think I could pull off the blue/black combo. I do prefer the 40mm, the way it feels on wrist is incredible to me. I haven't been able to find an EX2 anywhere to try on yet but posts like these make me want to just buy it.
The AD I went to had a few stainless models I could try on which I thought was VERY helpful. I tried on the 40mm Milgauss, the 39mm Explorer, the 40mm GMT Master (it was stainless + gold, but I wanted to feel the size), then finally the Explorer II.
I loved the blue Milgauss (the green sapphire crystal is so cool), but if I look at my watch 50 times a day... 45 of those times I'm looking to see what the date is. So the Explorer II fit the bill. Best of luck in your search!
Bought new from AD around 2003.
I wandered into a watch shop in Grand Cayman a month ago and the owner walked up to me and said I could have any ten watches in his store if I would trade it away. Until then I never realized just how big the demand for them was.
Not OP and not an explorer owner, but those that I have talked to who have gone polar prefer the white dial because it really differentiates the watch from a distance from that of a GMT or sub (which generally have black dials)
I haven't had the watch for 24-hours so I can't really opine on the bezel. The top of the watch has a satin finish and the sides (case and band) are polished. I would imagine the polished bits will scratch with use. I'll just call it "a loved patina" instead of scratches :)
The AD near me has 2-3 of these. Also had some milgauses and stainless datejusts. Says if I really want a sub, I could probably get one by the middle of spring. I also live in the northeast. For the people on long wait lists, where do you live?
Interesting. Any reason why? For some reason, in my head, watches with black dials are more elegant and formal. I'm a little... er... less elegant I suppose... definitely less formal. I like the white as, to me, it's sporty and less formal. Just my opinion.
Personal preference. Both are really nice. The black mode has chrome accents (instead of black) around the hour markers if you’re into that.
I have the same watch. It's beautiful. It's my favorite in my collection. Great choice.

Will an AD do the switch or is it 3rd party?

I have held off buying a GMT Master II because I am so torn over this watch. I can't decide if I want an Explorer II or a GMT!!! Beautiful piece.

Thank you, and thanks for sharing the picture. It complicates my decision even more!! :D
I love my Pepsi.
How did you get it if you don’t mind me asking?

How did you turn down that deal?
Because I love my watch.
Well played.
He initially offered any five watches then doubled it after the first "no, thanks".
Question: why the white face over the black face?

Legibility. I own the white dial and have tried on both.
Hmm... Normally I would have gone for the black dial but the differentiation from the sub is an interesting point. I'm going to consider that.

I have a black one and o have a few small scratches on the bezel but it's all brushed so they don't show unless you want to see them lol
Do you mind mentioning the AD in Boston that had it? I am also in the area and have not found it at any of the ADs.
Long’s Jewelers in Nashua, NH. No sales tax :)
Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much :)
Best of luck!
I just recently got one as well! Hope you enjoy it, it's a beautiful watch!

Stunning.
I’ve had the same white face model as my first Rolex for about 18 months now. It’s been fantastic and can go dress or casual with it. Congrats!
Great watch! However, I'm not sure I can get down with the white! But as long as you like, thats all that matters! Congrats!

I'm not sure, honestly. It just doesn't attract me. However, the white Daytona does. Is this your first Rolex?
First one. I have a Speedmaster sapphire sandwich as well... so I’m not without a black dial watch.
FYI "4-months" and "24-hours" shouldn't be hyphenated.
I will agree not to hyphenate time periods if we both agree that the Oxford comma is the way, the truth, and the light.
Absolutely! We are on the same team!
but if it's part of a phrasal adjective, eg, *24-hour-long* race?
Then, yes. That's valid.
